Rhinos got the right idea, watch the field from a distance and see where the deer come out in the evening and what they do in the mornings if you can.Sometimes you cant hunt the same area both times of day without scaring the deer out of the area or making them change thier travel routes. The only thing I could add is dont overhunt the stand, escpecially if your seeing lots of deer movement, everytime you go in and out you leave scent and make noise, before long the deer will pattern you if your not carefull and just go around you to get where they want to be.If possible set up more then one stand or even better hunt another area entirely and alternate where you sit.

About three weeks ago I get a call from the elevator up here. They started a new pallet company making cardboard pallets and converted the old lumber yard buildings to use for the operation. First call I get we go look, they need a breezeway between the 2 buildings to drive the forklift through so they can store the pallets without having them go outside in the weather. Not only the manager but the entire crew comes out to show us what they want, everyones got a different idea, Im soon confused about what were actually doing. Next morning the head elevator office calls me and one of the other office guys asks me to come over.He walks me through it and everything he says is different then the plans we got the day before.I tell him Ill start in a couple weeks. Yesterday we go back, I make a material list, people start walking by, the plans are changed again.I make three different lists trying to cope with the everchanging plans. Finally I leave, order materials and go get some tools to start with. When I get back the first thing they do is tell me they decided to change the plans again.I dont even have the right materials to begin the job now. Last night we finshed framing in the first doorway in one building. The manager comes in, he wonders if its going to have enough headroom. Then he asks if I got permission to order my materials from the lumberyard instead of Menards. I snapped, I told him the last job we did for them i got my stuff at my menards, they charged more and took 3 days to get the stuff, brought me the wrong stuff 3 times and I didnt much care where they got thier stuff I got mine at the lumberyard. He mentioned the headroom for the forklift, I told him to get out and keep his crew away from me, I had enough plan changes, Im not redoing anything, and the only way to get more clearance would involve taking all the support posts out from under 20 ft of roofline.Id build it the way it should be built and keep as much room open as was humanly possible without the building caving in.I hope today goes better or Im gonna take my stuff and go home

Re: What\'s is Wrong with My Dog? My yellow lab used to do that, when she was a pup she would literally cut herself up scratching and was doing it all the time.Tried differentfoods and quit bathing her, got her some shots I cant remember the name of and nothing helped.Got another pup when she was about a year old and he crapped on the older dogs bed one day, had to throw the bed out.The scratching stopped shortly after Near as I could tell she was allergic to something in the dog bed, I never would have guessed it personally but as soon as we got rid of it she was cured

Re: Injured deer what to do? Gotta agree with Mr. Wiggley here.Deer get wounded all the time and many of them recover quite well. Its not worth losing your hunting rights and getting a large fine over, coyotes gotta eat to

Re: I think God is speaking... My wife got her RN earlier this year. She loves it, the pays good and she only has to work 3 12 hour shifts a week so shes home with the kids more often then she was working a dead end 9 to 5 job anywhere else. Two year course, lots of clinical experience involved in it and theres a certain amount of extra education you gotta do after you graduate to keep your license valid I believe. Some hospitals will even help you pay off your student loans on top of your regular wages, I think they give her and 250$ a month or something to put towards her loans.

Re: Tomb of Jesus [ QUOTE ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just curious, if Jesus and Mary Magdalane were married and had a child whats that mean anyway?Does it change anything?Does it make the rest of it less true?Seriously, I dont see the difference one way or the other or why it would even matter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This would change EVERYTHING. It would mean that nothing in the Bible were necessarily true [/ QUOTE ] Hows that make anything untrue? The bible never mentions his marital status and near as I can tell never mentions him living a life of abstinence either.Matter of fact Im not real sure theres anything in the bible that would directly refute the possibility, of course I been wrong before.

Re: Tomb of Jesus I dont think it would matter if they could prove anything, if your religous your not going to believe any different anyway, if your a scientist your not going to buy into the religous angle.Everyone I spoke to had thier own pre concieved ideas long before this episode aired and had no plans to change them. Its an area where theres little room for open mindedness, you either believe or you dont. Just curious, if Jesus and Mary Magdalane were married and had a child whats that mean anyway?Does it change anything?Does it make the rest of it less true?Seriously, I dont see the difference one way or the other or why it would even matter.

Re: its bad im addicted When I quit drining beer I started drinking coffee in large amounts while in rehab. They used to leave the caffinated coffee packets out by the coffee machine in there so you could make a cup whenever you wanted. They actually had to stop doing that because people were hiding the packets in thier rooms and eating them I still drink 2 or 3 pots a day most days but I never had the urge to eat it outta the can

I know theres some construction workers and stuff in here.Just wanted to see if anyone had any idea on this.Got a call from a lady yesterday I do some work for on occasion, she bought a house here in town about a year ago and its her first winter in there. She called and said she had tore a ceiling out in her basement and noticed the bottom 2x10 plate that runs around the house was wet.I went down and it was wet but I figured it was because she recently turned the heat on down there and the cold air from the outside and hot air inside were maing it sweat. Then she was showing me some gutters she wanted changed this spring.I noticed a bucket under one metal corner on the house had about 2 inches of water standing in it.It was well below freezing and seemed funny so I asked what it was.She had put it out there about 2 hours before that because there was water dripping out from behind the siding I started looking closer and she literally has water running out from behind her metal siding all over on the north side of her house.I asked if she had any trouble inside and she said the windows on that side were soaking wet every morning as well and it was starting to rot the jams. I have no idea whats causing it, her attics got soffit vents around the outside and big gable end vents on both ends of the house.Dont know if the walls insulated very well itself but it has steel siding, with foam insulation behind it, along with the old wood siding that they went over the top of.I also believe thats where the water in the basements coming from.Anybody ever seen anything like this because Im stumped and she wants to finih a room off in the basement.

Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill Pit bulls and rotwielers account for a very high parcentage of dog attacks. This list shows attack numbers going from 1982 to 2006.Look at the bottom of page 2 here. http://www.dogbitelaw.com/Dog%20Attacks%201982%20to%202006%20Clifton.pdf 2209 attacks total for the many different breeds listed.Rots and pits account for 1519 of them. pit bull terriers account for 1110, thats excluding mixed breeds. out of 264 deaths these two breeds cause 162 of them with pit bulls leading the numbers again with 104 of them.

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa wildlife experts are looking into a new deer contraceptive that could curb the state's multimillion-dollar-a-year overpopulation problem. The new, single-dose birth control vaccine would neutralize sex hormones in the famously fertile and polygamous animals. It would result in infertility in both males and females. "It's not something you want anyone or everyone to use," said Dale Garner, wildlife bureau chief at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. "We want to make sure it's not used willy-nilly in the state." In order to do that, there's a bill before the state Legislature aimed at regulating wildlife contraceptives. The proposed legislation would also restrict the use of growth hormones in deer, as well as drugs for sedating animals or treating them for disease. The contraceptive vaccine, called GonaCon, is being developed by researchers at the National Wildlife Research Center, a branch of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in March, said Gail Keirn, a spokeswoman for the research center. The EPA wouldn't likely approve the drug until early 2008, making it the first wildlife contraceptive available for nonresearch purposes. Researchers say the vaccine, a protein, shouldn't be dangerous for people to eat meat from a vaccinated deer. However, Garner worries about what could happen if people are accidentally injected with the drug. "What if some people in a neighborhood get a deer down ... and it's kicking or takes a side step or a roll and some guy or lady gets injected in the rear end?" he said. "Or if somebody's shooting a dart gun at deer in a park, and it misses an animal and hits a person? Or if a kid picks up an unspent dart and the injection goes off?" Use of wildlife contraception in Iowa is not a common practice, so far, said Chad Machart, president of the Iowa Whitetail Deer Association. Other vaccines have seemed impractical because they required singling out females for an injection, then finding the same animals again later for a booster shot. Garner said it could cost anywhere from $300 to $1,000 to capture and inject each deer with the vaccine, adding that its effect lasts only two years

Re: Schools closed because of the temperature?? Makes sense to me, at least in some rural areas, who wants to be responsible for 30 kids sitting on a bus on a gravel road in the midle of nowhere thats broke down when the temps are that low.Its -9 here though and not even a late start, but recess is cancelled -
Re: Non-Resident Tags in your state?? We have a lottery system here in Iowa as most of you know. Its worked well, we have a lot of great bucks most areas Ive hunted you can still get permission just by knocking on the door and asking to hunt. But every year recently I see things where they try to raise the number of NR tags available and Im afraid it going to go through one of these times. In recent years theyve raised everything, resident hunting/fishing, deer tags, NR deer tags and hunting licenses have gotten insanely high.Last year I see they added a thing where NR had to buy an additional doe tag along with thier regular tag. Heres a little breakdown of NR deer hunting costs Either sex/Antlerless deer combo-$323 Regular paid hunting$80.50 Habitat fee $8.50 Thier charging Nr $400 a piece for deer, forcing you to buy tags you dont really want, and selling out the tags every year. They want to double the amount of tags sold.Itll put more money in the DNRs pocket in the short term but the eventual consequences are going to be harder to deal with. More hunters= less private land available to hunt due to leasing and competition More hunters=more guys on already crowded public lands More hunters =more bucks killed every year, eventually that will take a toll on the trophy potential for the state Less trophy deer and less available ground=Less NR hunters willing to pay outragous prices to come to this state and hunt. Less NR hunters=less money in the DNr checkbook which will bring us full circle. Deer management should be thier job, when they start making decisions based on money alone nothing good can happen for the hunters in the state or the wildlife.Id contact as many groups as you can in your state and fight this.

Re: Got Alpacas?? We actually looked into them 7 or 8 years ago.Cant remember the website but I signed up for info and started getting literature and invitations from all over the country to come and check them out. The price was what killed the idea, to get enough to breed them was an investment I couldnt make and knowing my luck Id wind up with 50,000$ worth of Alpacas and the market would dry up

Re: NY Deer Hunters [ QUOTE ] The one that really jumped out at me was the attempt to establish commercial deer hunting and the sales of venison from wild deer for profit. Yes, I know the sales of publicly owned furbearers has been accepted and going on for years, but somehow this seems a bit more dramatic to me and would seem to be more prone to promoting poaching and other misuse of the herd. [/ QUOTE ] Am I understanding this correctly?People would have a season in which to hunt deer for the purpose of selling the meat commercialy? Sorry Im a little foggy this morning, was up late finishing trimming out a house so the owners could close on it today

Re: Iowa Non Resident No fur harvester license required. youll need a deer license, regular paid hunting license, and habitat stamp. This should get you to where you can purchase all of them online. The application periods May 6 to June 4. http://www.iowadnr.com/wildlife/files/deerappl.html Heres the zones, youll want to pick the one youll be hunting in, NR licenses arent good state wide. http://www.iowadnr.com/wildlife/files/deerappl.html But the odds of drawing a either sex tag in your first application are very slim to none.Doe tags are another story, you may be able to get one of them if your set on hunting while your here.Otherwise youll probably have to wait 2 to 3 years to get enough preference points for an either sex tag.

Re: Newbie Questions I shoot about 75 grains of loose 777 in mine.I was shooting more but I accidently discovered I got much tighter groups with way less powder when I was trying to find a lighter load for my kid to hunt with.Ive shot deer at a little past 100 yards with these loads and they work very well at that range. I dont swab between shots, but do clean the gun every night if I have shot it.After 9 or 10 shots Ive seen very little difference in my gun with a clean vs. dirty barrel. Most hunting situations Ill only be taking one, maybe two shots so its not something I worry about a lot.Might not hold true with your gun. I like 777, Pyrodex in my gun was much dirtier. The pyrodex pellets were the worst load I used in my old gun, after 3 shots you couldnt shove another bullet down even if you did swab it.Havent tried pellets or pyrodex with my new gun.My old Knight have a very tight bore to begin with though and didnt take much fouling to become hard to load I use a pipe cleaner and small wire brush from a gun cleaning kit on my breach plug along with a rag and hot soapy water. Stainless vs. Blued= no idea I shoot a 240 grain shockwave, gonna try the easy glides this year just to see if theres any noticable difference.

Re: 10 Controversial Wildlife Subjects My personal favorite wacky idea that people actually push for using in the place of hunting. Deer Contraceptives, why shoot a deer when you can put them on the pill

Re: Illinois Antlerless Only hunt. Very strange! Weve found them as early as late Dec. here while muzzleloader hunting. In the begining/middle of Dec. while the shotgun hunters have been out Ive hear many stories of people grabbing the antlers to drag thier deer only to have it come off in thier hands. My favorite story was the first week of Dec. early shotgun season.A guy had shot a buck and he ran up into a thick grove with a group of does. They decided to push the grove and get one guy on the backside in case the buck ran out.The guy that originally shot the deer walked through the grove while his buddy got in the back edge of it.The does all ran out but the buck wasnt with them.Turned out the buck had lost both antlers after entering the grove, the guy posting was looking for antlers in the herd when the deer ran out and didnt notice the crippled one in the middle, he ran right past him They backtracked through the grove and found both antlers and continued on to kill the wounded deer in the next push they made.Crazy things happen in the late season
