So, I punched my first tag at 6:50 AM on our opener. And Monday.........our second day......... I tagged out at 6:10 AM.
Classic straight-from-the-limb hunt. He flew down with 4 hens. They worked their way to some very soft and friendly calling and he strutted behind them to his demise.
17 1/2 lbs
8 1/2" beard
1" & 1 1/8" spurs
Put this guy to bed Friday night with 3 hens. Crappy cell phone pic taken through my binos. He's almost 700 yards away.
Got in on him bright and early yesterday morning and ended up calling one of his hens to me with him in tow. A 30 yard chip shot made him my first 2022 gobbler. Sure feels good to get back out there and at it !!!

So Sunday it was 86 degrees. Monday it was 80 degrees. Today I've seen snow flurries twice. My pear and plum trees are in blossom. They won't survive ANY of the next 3 nights...........26 tonight and tomorrow night........30 Friday night.
Like my teenage daughter would say............ "This is TRASH !!!!!"
Been snowing like crazy with high winds and highs around 32-34 degrees here for the last 2 days.........................
Extended forecast shows the highs for 4/30-5/2 to be 40 degrees all 3 days. And 4 overnight lows in the 20's between now and then.
Winter ain't over.
Try to be a turkey hunter...............end up being a lumberjack. Bummer. Hope you get stuff cleared out and get into those birds !!
My brother texted me this morning about an hour after flydown. Said there was one "gobbling his nutz off" up on the strut10 Ranch. It was 9 degrees !!!!!!
I texted back, "I just LOVE a cheerful volunteer !!" Just 4 more weeks......................
Yeah............ I hear ya, Al. Nice to be able to shoot a turkey and smell the bacon frying at the same time. ?
Deluxe hunting !!!
They've just been a gittin' it, here !!! Some are split up. Some are still bunched up. But all indications are for a good number of gobbling birds on the Strut10 Ranch this season.
My #1 turkey scout (aka my mom) from the Strut10 ranch called me last night to tell me she had 55-60 birds come through her lower yard yesterday morning. Said a bunch of jakes and at least 6 or 7 longbeards.
I'll take that kinda news. Yep.
They've been gobbling from the limb here for about 3 weeks on fit mornings. Got out Saturday morning and went to the Strut10 Ranch. There were at least 2 strutters in the far corner of our one field. They were on the ground in basically the darkness. I had no binos. So at 650-ish yards, I couldn't see much detail.
Another month and a half and.................. ?
Hey, there, Mr. World Traveller !!! ?
Good to see you pop in. Kinda like William............ I still check in almost daily. But it's mostly to say "hi" to the crickets............
Not much happens here, anymore. It's a shame.
You need to try it !!!! My heart pounds as much over a big old doe when I have that rock ready to drop as it does when I'm at full draw on a good buck.
