Hat was received last week: Let's see some pics of that beauty! :-) T
-
Hat was sent on Thurs. of last week.....you should have it today or tomorrow! Tony

LOW is always fun for ice fishing! Dave Genz is the original pioneer of many of the ways we fish now! I am sure it was indeed the same tourny that I mentioned. I think some of you need to experience an ice fishing adventure! :-)

Well the hat and cash arrived at my doorstep tonight: Great looking hat :-) for a great Guy! My question is where do you want me to send it to now? I can send it wherever you guys say: Thanks Tony

Hey Bret! Well the wife is expecting our first little "birddog" so we'll be making the trek up a couple of times this winter....kid is due on Nov. 15th (2nd weekend of deer season here :-( ) :-) We are excited! I just know we'll be heading up more often, and I'd love to come with for a day, and watch you call....I can be a darn good camera man :-)....so I'd love to do it! Fire me an email at some point and let me know how things are going! I read your journal and it looks good! Good luck on the big bucks! Keep me posted, and let me know what the heck that critter was your buddy got on his game camera :-) T

We drive by the "corner gas" area that they film from each time I go visit the in-laws! I would enjoy seeing the show, as usually the "set" is all done up with squad cars, etc. It would be fun to see it on T.V.....but usually U.S. Television doesn't have the Canadian shows....much to my wife's dismay!

I don't check the site here as often as I would like, or should....but I'd be all about getting an ice fishing get together going in Minnesota for anyone interested. You all could name the species, and we'd get it set up. Lots of crappie/gill spots to try with walleyes going early ice as well. Big Pike come late ice! I think we should do a Realtree get together! :-) I'll host it, just get people interested in coming out.....We could get it set up right with electronics and gear! We'll be fishing in just 12 short weeks! :-) T

Winnie is a great place! We fish out of NoDak's a few times a year...and I'm guessing Okaboji in Iowa! Big gills! I need to get over to Wisconsin, as the championship for the NAIFC is on "Boom Lake" in Dec! Some good fishing is to be had! Hard water is probably my favorite time for finding big gills, crappies, and eyes!

Hey all, just wondered how many of you guys/gals do any ice fishing? If you are in to a great ice fishing time you need to look at signing up for the North American Ice Fishing Championships.....NAIFC.com I belive that is the website....anywho it's a great chance to ice fish all over the states! It's a great way to get out and try your luck against the best ice fisherman in the states! This year the championship is in Wisconsin, so if you love to ice fish sign up..... T

Awesome fish! My wife is from Moose Jaw, so I get up a few times a year with the relatives. Her Brother in law is in P.A. but he doesn't fish! How far north do you guys go? I'd love to hook up and catch quality fish like that! T
-
Great pics! I've been away from the site for about a year......I just didn't check back! Any chance of a non-resident hooking up for a deer hunt ;-) Nice bucks! T

I love to see deer pics: Here is a buck from last season that I had a bunch of pics of! I had this deer at 44 yards on Oct. 23rd in the rain and just couldn't release an arrow at, for fear of loosing him! This deer was shot 9 days into our 11 day season by a neighbor of mine. I didn't even know he had been killed until I saw him on the wall at a local gas station about a month ago. Velvet pics are deceiving......and this buck proved it! What do you all think it scored? I am not positive that all 3 are of the same buck, but I assume so, by times, etc. I know the official score of this hog, so let the guessing begin! :-) He's a mainframe 4X4 with a split brow tine and a drop tine: How big do you think the drop tine is from the pics??? Again, I have all the measurements and I was surprised! T

mid 130s.....those velvet bucks are deceiving:-) Nice buck and great pics.

I know the area well, and if you get the job fire me a P.M! There is a ton of fishing and hunting opportunities from Estevan, all the way up to Saskatoon! Sounds like a great opportunity and if I was 21 and single I'd jump all over the chance! The process of moving and getting residency is a pain, but it sounds like a great chance at a life changing experience! You drive 2 hrs in any direction and you have all your bases covered! I think Sureshot is only about 2 hours or so from there and he's got some of the best shed hunting and hunting opportunities of anyone I know! Great chance...just don't get lost in Regina.....;-)

2.5 or 3.5 year old deer: Guessing it will score about 130: A nice deer indeed, but if it is only 2.5 next year it'll be a pig! I don't know that I would pass it up even this year! Great pic, hopefully you get a whack at it!

In my opinion hunting a bear over bait with a rifle is foolish: Usually the stand is so close that the bullet has no time to expand, the most effective bear killing firearm is a 12 gauge slug: Bears are the best animal to hunt with a bow. They give you all the time you need to take the shot that you are comfortable with. I bought my brother a bow a few years ago just because he wanted to use his rifle on a bear hunt. His first kill (and only) with his bow was a 289# MN black bear! If you choose to use a rifle, make sure you are shooting open sites! As Steve said, bears aren't hard to kill, just take your time and make a good, clean, ethical shot: They give you the opportunity over bait!

Yup, what the others have said: I own a summit viper that I use for bowhunting, and I have a tree lounge that rests peacefully in my garage :-) The tree lounge is great as more of a permanant stand. It is noisy, bulky, and totally comfortable :-) The last time I used my tree lounge I left it on my climbing tree for the season: Other than the wet butt from it sitting out there all the time, it was great to hunt from, eat from, sleep in :-) The bowhunting platform was a little unnerving as you have to step away from the comfort of the tree, but it is a comfy stand. If you are looking at hunting hard, go with the summit!

hard to judge by the pics: However if the pile of poop is bigger than your fist: Then it sure does look like bear poop to me :-) If the pictures are misleading than indeed coon would fit the bill! Either way...thanks for showing the piles of poop :-)

Bret: Welcome to the workings of the US gov! I have heard the ban was lifted, however how dumb can we be??? At least just let us hunters sit at the border and shoot all the migratory birds, eh? :-) Just plain dumb. The "bird flu" that these chickens have is not even the same strain as the doom and gloom of "avian influenza" pandemic! This was just plain stupid! The Canadian Gov. should send a bill for "wanton waste" for each bird that was thrown into the landfill! Just plain dumb!

How far north in Sask? My future Brother in law just took a job in Prince Albert, and sister in law is interviewing there next week: I normally only get up to Moose Jaw, but plan on making a couple of trips to PA, is this close to anything worth fishing?
-
You absolutely clean the fish for him! If you can't do a great job making sure there are no bones, etc. I would go to the store and buy him a couple of meals of fresh fillets. It would be a cheap price to pay for permission to hunt.

Cheek meat is the best! A lot of times when I catch a 25+" I just cut the cheeks out and release it :-) ONLY KIDDING!!!! When we are fishing eyes (pickeral to you Canadians) we take the cheeks out of all of our fish (14-17") there is some good meat in the cheeks and it takes 3-4 seconds to get it. We have started to take the "gullets" as well...it is a simple cut beneath the caudel fins and you get a great piece of meat! On our Canadian trip this year, by the time we left the fish cleaning house, you would have guessed a whole tribe of Hmong had been through there, because we went through the buckets and took cheeks and gullets out of the fish, and we had a FEED on Cheeks and Gullets one night, feeding 10 guys with awesome snacks! I will never again let a "keeper eye" go without taking the cheeks and the gullet......great eating: In my mind there is no reason to ever take the cheeks or any other part of an eye over 20".....for those that keep the fillets of these bigger fish, you are a dang fool to not take the cheeks and gullets.....they are simple to cut out and even simpler to cook...and end up no different than a shrimp cocktail , as you pull the meat from the fins!

Hey you Canadian outdoorsman, I saw that the world record trout (rainbow) was caught on Diefenbaker lake in Sakatchewan and I have seen no mention of it on here. Any of you guys do any trout fishing or have any ideas on where they caught it, etc??? I am heading to Sask. over the Sept. Long Weekend, and am looking for something to do....even for a day, to get out of the in-laws :-) I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions, etc. I haven't been on the site in a while but Bret, are you out there??? :-)

My suggestion is to wait until you are established in life......I have had dogs my whole life (many times to my parents dismay :-) I just brought them home!) As I have learned a lot about dogs, and hunting I have seen a lot of dogs hunt, and plain and simple until you have the time to put into them, they will never be the "machine" you are looking for. Right now, I have an 8 year old yellow lab, that I trained and will put against about any dog out there for sitting in a duck blind and retrieving ducks and geese within site (blind retrieves are iffy, but occasionally he is very impressive). Also in the field he is a work horse that will find pheasants and not let a cripple get away. This hound is great, but now that I have gotten married there are some downsides....he sheds, doesn't always listen to my wife, and pees on her flowers. I also have a German Wirehaired pointer whom is awesome in the field (If I can contain him within a 1/2 mile) he is a great upland dog, but has cost me about 3500 in the last 4 years (his life span) he is crazy...barbed wire....he just runs through it.....Lyme's disease, yep...another 200 bucks....torn ear from messing with a coon...yup another 350......porcupine quills...well that is 275 to remove...all of these points are to show you or rather say to you, that a hunting dog is a huge responsibility and for every time they do you proud, they will tick you off and cost you money. If your dad is saying "no dog" right now, then heed that advice until you are able to make sure your "hunting buddy" is something that you can afford and train right. Until that point, look to adopt a pet. Have it fixed and try to learn as much as possible.....good luck and treat your hound right!

Hey Brad, I really like your ambition, and "going for it" My email is in my signature line and I would enjoy visiting with you...I don't know what your intentions are but I would be willing to help wherever I can....I look back and see you are looking for land in Michigan, and that is wonderful but if you guys want to "take over the outdoor realm" then you need to look outside the state and see what you can find. Illinois, Wisconsin, MN, Iowa, ND, SD, Montana......etc. Fire me an email I would enjoy visiting with you. Tony
