Re: Completly new to turkeys! I don't know guys......I am a very avid outdoorsman, and those "ugly turkeys" :-) just have never done it for me...I have buddies who say I will quickly become addicted to this, (and this very post can be brought up again if I do!) but I just think they are ugly up close and personal! I see that Andy on this site makes a slate call, and I think I will buy one of them and start playing with it but I just don't know.....bears, deer, pheasants, grouse, ducks, geese, walleyes, crappies.....I don't know if turkeys will fit in....one more passion and my wife may leave me ;-) Man, I hope I don't become addicted....However, stopped by the land today and saw 5 of them again! Oh man, I am getting excited....someone help......I think I am already getting excited...oops, I also forgot: I picked up 2 turkey hunting dvd's.....I am open to any suggestions...must get turkey......must get turkey.....Just reading the posts is converting me........

Re: Schools closed because of the temperature?? WHAT????? Closed for the cold????? Got the wife out the door, now I am off to work: Awoke to -24 this morning, the wind isn't too bad, so they are saying the windchill is only -35......even the dogs don't want to go outside in this :-) -

Well guys, I didn't think I would ever be a "turkey hunter" but my brother and I just bought a piece of land and lo and behold everytime we are out there we see turkeys! We both applied for turkey tags (they are tough to get in MN) and this year my brother got drawn for the first weekend: (You only get your choice of 6 different 5 day seasons).....anywho, he is good to go for opener, but I was not drawn....I do have the option of buying an over the counter tag, good for the last two weeks in May, archery only. I have hunted many critters, but am new to this......what can you guys recommend or teach me! I have a ground blind, but that is about as much as I have/know......what do I need? Calls, decoys, etc. Will this time of year be a good time? I plan to call for my brother in April (if that is the way to go) and then in May I'll be on my own with archery gear. HELP!!!!!

Re: Plane Crash Allright, that's funny right there! When I saw the pic, I had to look over and make sure my wife was in bed and not M.I.A.! She's still here...WHEW! Good post, and now that the birddog has a computer back up at home, I'll be back on Realtree again!

Re: February Photo Assignment It's the little things: Like this little walleye that my buddy Tom is slipping in behind our friend Chad. This was Chad's biggest walleye to date, and Tom had to sneak the little guy in as I snapped the pic. An early spring, great fishing, and good buddies! All the "little things" you need for an adventure!

Re: Spider Solitaire That is crazy! We just got a new computer last night, and the wife sat and played this "spider solitare" for hours! I took my turn....and won! We aren't to the "2 suites" yet! But it surely is addicting!

Re: Heading to Devil\'s Lake ND... c_lou: As the time gets closer, remind me....and I'll give you the up to date scoop! Sounds like they are expecting a great spring bite, if winter is any predictor!

Re: Heading to Devil\'s Lake ND... Oh yes, Devils Lake in the summer!!! I have a Devils Lake Curse! I have ice fished it a handful of times and was always skunked until I met up with the "Perch Patrol Guys" Zippy and the boys put us on fish like I had never experienced. Summer time is the best, and you actually will fish right up in the trees at times. Catching walleyes all day on slip bobbers. If you guys are heading that way, it is definetlly worth checking in at Woodland Resort, Jason Mitchell guides out of there and is one of the best guides in the country. Even if you just want to pick his brain, the guy will help you out. Slip bobbers are a very common method, pitching jigs, and cranks are also used a lot on DL: You will have a blast, and as the time gets closer I can probably help you out with more specifics.

Re: Passport info?? * As of January 23, 2007, ALL persons*, including U.S. citizens, traveling by "AIR" between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document. You must be flying in duh! Yeah, you will need one then. You will have a blast! Good to get your ducks in a row early!

Re: Passport info?? Married to a Canadian who lives/works in the states: We have done some checking: You will be fine without a passport: Here is the law: Documents You Will Need to Enter the United States Important Note: The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will soon require all travelers to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted form of documentation to enter or reenter the United States. The program will be rolled out in phases. The proposed timeline is as follows: * As of January 23, 2007, ALL persons*, including U.S. citizens, traveling by "AIR" between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document. * As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons*, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries. *Lawful permanent residents (LPRs), refugees, and asylees will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card (Form I-551), issued by DHS, or other valid evidence of permanent residence status or refugee or asylee status to apply for entry to the United States. Travel Documents for U.S. Citizens Under WHTI Under the proposed implementation plan, the following documents will be acceptable to fulfill document requirements: * U.S. Passport: U.S. citizens may present a valid U.S. passport when traveling via air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda, and may also use a U.S. passport when traveling via sea and land borders (including ferry crossings). * The Passport Card (also referred to as the PASS Card): This limited-use passport in card format is currently under development and will be available for use for travel only via land or sea (including ferries) between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. Similar in size to a credit card, it will fit easily into a wallet. * DOS and DHS also anticipate that the following documents will continue to be acceptable for their current travel uses under WHTI: SENTRI, NEXUS, FAST, and the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document. As proposed, members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty traveling on orders will continue to be exempt from the passport requirement. Until this requirement is in effect as noted above, U.S. citizens are currently exempt from the requirement to show a passport unless they are returning to the U.S. from outside the Western Hemisphere (Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia). However, it is highly recommended that you be prepared to present documentation such as valid U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, or naturalization certificate to avoid delays. U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) must provide one of the following: * I-551, Permanent Resident Card ("Green Card") * Machine-Readable Immigrant Visa endorsed with a CBP Admission Stamp * Temporary Residence Stamp (ADIT stamp) contained in a passport or on Form I-94 * Valid Reentry Permit * Unexpired Immigrant Visa Visitors/Non-immigrants must provide: * Generally, a valid unexpired passport and visa. (However, certain people may require specific supporting documentation such as an employment petition, student authorization, or approval notice.) * Citizens of countries authorized to participate in the Visa Waiver Program are required to present an unexpired machine-readable passport. (For additional information refer to the State Department. ( U.S Department of State ) * Mexicans may provide a valid DSP-150 (BCC) in lieu of a valid passport and visa * Generally, Canadian Nationals must show ID but are exempt from passport and visa requirements. However presentation of a Canadian passport, birth certificate, Naturalization certificate or other supporting documentation will facilitate the inspection and is strongly encouraged. * Nationals of countries authorized to participate in the Visa Waiver Program are required to present an unexpired passport.

Re: Black bear anatomy chart Good enough: I have the bearing down series, and a few years ago I had a few buddies come up and do a show with me when I was hunting bears a lot. Got 3 bears that night on video with one taken with a bow from a ground blind. Cool stuff!

Re: Black bear anatomy chart Did you find any videos yet? If not, fire me a P.M. and I'll send you a couple to get your blood pumping.

Re: Which Used ATV Honda is the best on the market...the end: I own a Bombardier Quest 650, I have owned a Honda Rancher, and an Arctic Cat 300: Hands down the Arctic had the best ride, the Quest has the most speed and power, but the Honda just kept on going! The Sportsmans great for the first 2000 miles, then I have heard a lot of guys start having problems with them. JMHO.....so take it for what it is worth

Re: Solar Panel Help Sounds good, I am going to run to the store at lunch and see what I can find as far as actually looking at the camera, and seeing if I can figure it out. I'll report back with more questions! T

Re: Solar Panel Help electronically disabled would be a good way to say what I know about electronics. It has alligator clips, and It some how hooks to the motion camera, that is about as far as I have figured ;-)

Re: Black bear anatomy chart The "Bearing Down" series of videos with Ralph and Vicki C, are great for getting you how to judge size, weight, what the bear will square, etc. Very good info. My biggest recommendation is MAKE SURE that when you take your shot (with bow, I assume????) make sure that the front leg is forward, the shoulder blade on a bear protects the vitals fairly well, if you make sure that the bear is reaching and his front leg that you are shooting behind is forward, you should get a nice, easy kill!

I got a Stealthcam Wildview Xtreme II Motion Camera for Christmas: This unit takes 4 "C" batteries, and has an external jack for a 12 volt battery: With the camera I recieved a 6 volt solar charger, with the only directions saying to use rechargeable C batteries: I am wondering if anyone on here knows how to hook up a solar panel to the unit? It has alligator clips and a solar panel and it is made by Moultrie? Will this unit work with my camera??? Thanks
