What memories from the DHNA hunt way back when at Wilderness Hunting Lodge. Dang I miss those days...Miss hunting with all the clients I met...Some I am still in contact with... If you folks who went, could you please add your pictures from this hunt?

You all pretty much know about my accident, injuries from the accident and what I have been through...Also my cancer diagnosis in 2015 and the two surgeries to extract then rebuild where it was....I have had 30 surgeries from the accident (I was a welder and had #1000 of steel fall on me and crush me). I broke my back and neck in 7 places, both shoulders, both arms, both hands and my left leg....Well, I had been having increased pain in my lower back and legs and it got so bad I went 90 miles to Nashville to the St. Thomas ER. The ER doctors decided to admit me and they kept me there from Sunday last week through Wednesday. They ran imaging and found atleast one screw in my lower back had either backed out a bit or wallowed itself loose. INSTEAD of keeping me there to fix it, they decided to release me and do a follow-up in 5 weeks... WHAT??? I can NOT manage my pain it is so bad,,,, I don't know what they were thinking... ANYWAY, looks like surgery 31 from the accident is on the horizon....I would like for us to get together one day back at Wilderness and am considering going ahead and hunting one more time before surgery... I could use prayers as I need help to get around when navigating rough terrain. Thanks

Hey everyone, long time no see...I am glad my saying I penned still welcomes us to the disabled area here.. MI have heard nothing but praise for the memories that were made that weekend. Myself as well. Still have many good friends from that weekend. I am wanting to go back. Anyone else interested in going back for a group hunt?? I think it would be fun and a huge reunion of some of the past folks could make it. I can get the ball rolling with the owner of you all are interested. If so, let's come up with a date. I am going to have my 31st surgery this year (the seventh on my spine). I want to do something before it happens. I see my surgeon on February 7th and he will most likely order Myelogram and MRI studies...It could be as much as 6 months away...I have been waiting 2 years on a spinal stimulator and a bone growth stimulator. I think we are past those and something else needs to be done. Anyway, let me know! You do NOT have to be disabled to come. It is open for EVERYONE!!!!

I know I have been gone for quite a while but since my accident I have had 29 surgeries and left with 63 pieces of Titanium in me...Then in 2015 I was diagnosed with cancer and have had 2 operations to get rid of that...I am cancer free now. I have started a GoFundMe. I know most of you will remember Julian Ohmer. The Young man who joined us at the event I put on at Wilderness Hunting Lodge. Since that event and my re-injury I was forced to shut down the DHNA. I miss it so much...BUT, Julian picked up my torch and started his own organization!! I am wanting to raise enough money to get him a Track Chair as all he has still is that manual wheel chair. I am reaching out to everyone I knew when we did that event and filmed the show with Dave Watson.... Being I was one of the original Moderators for this room . I am proud my saying still adorns the title. I am just curious if anyone else is having the same trouble getting folks to help then hunt as I am......I must say something about what I am finding out about the state of disabled hunting. I have been well enough to hunt (with help) for about 5 years. I have begged folks I thought were my friends if they would take me hunting with them plus people I meet at the local gun shops, hunting shops etc. I am promised the moon and stars all year until about a month before season starts...then there is no longer a reply to text messages, messages left on phone calls and so on...I did happen to find out a few of the folks actually said they would not take me because they did not want anyone shooting "their" deer...When I had the DHNA going it was AMAZING the amount of folks who would show up to volunteer to help and from well over a thousand miles away...now days? not so much. I can do most everything by myself hunting. I do NOT need a babysitter. Heck, I now do physical therapy 3x a week and can tear up that darned treadmill. I can climb ladder stands and climbing stands...albeit not as fast as I used to..not even close...but I can do it. I only need help carrying a deer out. Heck, I used to have a Yamaha Rhino and could do everything with that awesome vehicle but being I am on disability, I had to sell it to get a hot tub to help me with my pain. Yes, it was a good trade but it really crippled me on getting to go hunting. Steve Beilgard on here has volunteered to guide me on one of my three bucket list hunts but I have yet to get drawn for the elusive Wyoming Elk hunt. Reason being, I am kind of weird. and Steve wants me to have the best opportunity to see my dream come true. All my life I have had an elk haunting my dreams. A mature 6x6 Bull..nothing less will do. If I do not get drawn for it, I am fine with it knowing there was someone out there who was willing to help me make it happen...and for that I am eternally grateful. The other two hunts, well, one could really happen but the other, not so much... I now get to go on only one hunt each year and it is one I look forward to each year. It is a 7 hour drive away and I gladly go every year. It is an awesome time for me and for the past several years I have come to make some awesome friends I look forward to seeing each year. What has happened to our hunting community? I have even written to many MANY of our hunting celebrities for help...unbelievably it is crickets or "we don't do that"...even though the show they just did WAS doing THAT... I just do not understand.... One last thing I have found...I have been called at least two times in the last 7 or 8 years about organizations who were going to take me hunting. Recommended from friends of mine who contacted the organizations about me. We talk via telephone for weeks. Then comes the thing I have learned to hate...they ask me which branch of the military I served in and where I was wounded. I tell them I was wounded in a welding accident, re-injured myself 15 years later and survived cancer and the surgery/recovery of that....then it is ..... oh....we only take wounded veterans...sorry - wow...I am a huge fan of our military. My son is still currently serving our country but dang it.... anyone else having this kind of problem locally? Sorry to go on and on and on... I was just curious

My daughter is now a Deputy Sheriff Seargent for the county next to mine and she is going to college at the same time to get a job (hopefully) with the FBI. This one will give me misty eyes and goosebumps....I am not supposed to say anything to a lot of folks but I will share with you. Do you remember my son from the hunt we had at Wilderness lodge in Tn? That little kid who always wanted to be around us? Well, he is now 6'4" tall and has been in the Navy for 7 years. He is currently done with his submarine duties and is stationed at Pearl Harbor. Well when he was home for the first Christmas home in 5 years he dropped a bomb on us...His command selected him to go to Vietnam for 2-3 months. He will be part of a team that will go to 2 POW camps there and exhume our servicemen who were buried there then he will escort them back to the states. He will have to train for a month before he goes. They even have to have EOD guys there because they booby trapped some of our folks graves back then. I am so terribly proud of him. I will be able to do a write up when it is all done ad give his story...I can't wait.

Talk about a motley crew... How in the world are you folks? I need t catch up with you folks. I have been recovering since my accident. I have wound up with 26 operations and 47 pieces of titanium. If you remember I re-injured an old injury slipping on a wet marble floor. I broke my neck and back in 6 places, both my arms and my left leg...the slip broke all the bone graphs I had in my spine so they had to remove all of that and put in MORE titanium...You all were with me through all of that...I was bed-ridden for 4.5 years and have been doing pretty well with the help of a pain specialists. I still am in quite a bit of pain but it is nerve pain. I do pretty well for what I have been through. I started going to a fitness center and taking it easy doing light weights and the treadmill. I am pretty mobile now except for my bad days. Jarrett, my son who was at our get together so long ago has been in the Navy as a submariner for 7 years now. He is currently stationed in Pearl Harbor. I am SO proud of him. My daughter works in corrections with the neighboring Sheriffs dept...AND going to school for criminal justice. She wants to work for the FBI. So very proud of her too! This past summer I was diagnosed with prostate cancer...YUP...just another hurdle in this world. We caught it early and I had surgery to remove it this summer 4 days after my birthday. Everything just fell into place for that. Jarrett was being transferred to Pearl Harbor from Seattle, Wa. and I got my diagnosis about the same time. I decided to fly to Seattle and ride back with him to bring what belongings he did not ship back home. We made an adventure of it seeing everything from Billings Montana to the painted desert just past the Grand canyon. Yup. I stood on a corner in Winslow Arizona too... I lost my mother to cancer 5 years ago just 5 days before my birthday. I was extremely crushed. She was 66. She died just about 5 weeks before her and my dad's 50th wedding anniversary and about 3 weeks before her 67th birthday. I miss her so much. I have been struggling for the past 5 years getting someone to take me hunting with them. I mean I can do most everything by myself except for pick up stuff on the ground or dragging something like a deer. I have been promised the moon by people I trusted before season starts then after it starts I can't even get them to return a phone call or text...One of the guys who I have known for 20+ years even Facebook posted he was hunting at the same farm he promised he would take me to the whole week he was off...grrrrrrr I am still wanting to meet my goal of killing at least a 6 point buck from every state. So far I think I have covered Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Wyoming, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Indiana. I would still want to go back to those states for bigger bucks but I really want to focus on the remaining states. Well, I know I have put most of you to sleep now so I will sign off. Just wanted to pop in and see you all. I will be in now and then pretty often. It is not what you can't do, it is what you CAN do. You just gotta do it!! Sometimes you get by with a little help from your friends.

One of our Olympians ran his race, won second place then grabbed the American flag AND the flag of Mexico and waved them both....how do you feel about this? His parents came here illegally when he was a kid...I am not too happy about it at all...it is a disgrace, I feel...What say You?

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 Off road 4x4 I am wanting to sell pretty cheap. It books for just under $11k. It has 183K miles on it but they were 99.9% highway. I changed the oil more then regularly (I am a bit crazy that way). I used Mobil 1 oil. I also changed the transmission filters every other year and changed the transmission fluid every year. Mechanically this truck is sound. 4x4 works flawlessly. Tires are almost new and have lots of tread on them. Paint shows some scratches from hunting but nothing extraordinary. Interior is leather, charcoal color. Has all the bells and whistles from the time period. I think this truck sold for just over $44k new. I would not hesitate to take this truck to California right now. I loved this truck but found a King Ranch I could not pass up. Clear title. Worst thing to get a small child is a bolt action, pump or single shot gun...A semi auto IMHO is always the best to reduce recoil and damage to nerves when kids are starting out. I started my son out on a Remington 7400 in .243...He loved it so much he graduated the next year at 8 to a Remington 7400 in 30-06. He now wants my BAR 300 win mag....but he is not getting it...LOL You can port the barrel of a semi-auto and reduce the recoil even more...but then again, I have always been a semi-auto man and have been blessed to hunt from coast to coast and border to border before I was hurt from 1980 to 2000... I never have understood the bolt gun mind. I just like to have the gun set and ready on every shot instead of racking and re-setting....now I am not kicking dirt guys!!! LOL

any ideas of truck headliners and such for extra storage that really works> Something where you could store pistols overhead and such? Got this new (to me ) truck and want to do some additions.
