I've had a little bit of early season luck on deer that I had somewhat patterned. Follow Rhino's advice early on. Back off, observe that deer and try figure him out from a distance. If he makesa few mistakes and lets you see him enough times you have a decent chance of sliding in there Oct. 1 and killing him if he's still there and that'll depend on what he's filling his belly with. Good luck, it's satisfying to watch a buck, figure him out and go in and get him, very satisfying. Keep us updated.

This is why even some moderates hate hunting/hunters
SaskMan replied to FSU_Seminole's topic in Politics
I think the best comment I've read on this thread comes from buckee, the one about hunters spreading stuff on the internet, most of it is unture and only add fuel to a fire that is already roaring. -
I just programmed to ignore them. It is stupid, some people are just programmed to be jealous I guess. You can't get it away from it, **** people down the road make crap up when you do your homework...spend a tonne of time doing it and it pays off.

I agree that we have gotten a bit too boring, straying from the norm is as bad as having the plague in some cases. I like the controversial cases, in fact that's why I liked jumping into the odd political forum topic. However.......it seems as though if you're not with the norm in there you're a bad guy, not just someone with a different opinion...whatever, I don't care, my friends and family know who I am. As for the contest thing..........................some guys take that way too seriously, it's not the big league championship, it's a silly contest with a little prize at the end........so what if some guys don't pull through. Anyways, I'm done with that too, I received so many jealous pm's regarding the bucks I've been lucky enough to get the past 3 yrs I am not looking to share any more pics. From paying to hunt, to high fence accusations...a load of b.s.....after all a guy can't get lucky on his neighbour's piece more than once, it doesn't add up. Well this is Saskatchewan anything can happen. Anyways, like someone said, maybe we've gotten too stale..... I'll still visit and will still post despite whatever shortcomings. but I do still think that it is summer and that plays a huge role.

I kind of forget about it to be honest, too much else on the go. I play a little recreational basesball, golf, spend time with my kids and family, work in my yard, garden, fish...the list goes on and on....it'll be fall soon enough. I'll get serious again around Mid. Aug.
-
Well we get snow...in fact quite a bit of it, this yr likely 36" or more. Most yrs of normal snow fall, 18" or so, the deer use the same trails they have used all fall. So...I guess what I'm saying is that normal amounts of snowfall here don't affect the deers travel patterns much if at all during the hunting season. However. later in the winter as it really sets in they seem to yard up in the same old traditional areas and follow the same old traditional trails....but it takes alot of snow to make them change their habits within season.

Nothing............I just always hope the deer find enough good grub in their natural environment, they seem to.

I'm another one who hasn't chimed in much but agree with Martin, I honestly really dislike the forum look and cannot even access it at home on my dial up connection. Plus..it is the slow season for deer, I'm just patiently waiting..until late Aug to locate a big one...and I'll stay shut up about it then too. lol

I'm glad they suspended Pronger.......I don't care if he is a star in the league, where he is from, or how good looking his wife is. That shot to Holmstrom's head was easily as ugly as Alexander Radulov smearing Steve bernier into the boards in round 1 and that was all I heard about from our hockey analysts for 2 days. -

I see at Detroit-Ottowa series shaping up......Superguide, i can smell my steak cooking. lol -
MIchiganhunter, you asked. you will receive. In Alberta land access is getting far and far more difficult to access due to outfitters operating on private land and the sponshorhip fact, basically, non licenced outfitting. Here close to the Alb. border we see an absolute pile of Alberta residents here as a non resident. For them, it is way cheaper to travel to Saskatchewan, stay in a hotel for a week and hunt whitetails than it is to find quailty ground there, the $$ has found it's way into Alberta like it has so many U.S states. I guess I like it the way things are here, outfitters operating on public land, regular guys are not tying up land b/c they are "sponsoring" a buddy and gaining access for locals is a free and easy thing. In my opinion, we have the best hunting place in the world..and I for one would like to see it stay that way.......you asked.

I'm with superguide on this one. I think the guy that wrote the letter was using "sarcasm" in trying to get a chuckle out of people. He got one out of me and that doens't mean I agree with what he said, just that I have a sense of humour.....so does my wife,...................even though I have to tie her lures on. lol

That's b/c dad is not as fast as son is. lol

Been reading the iowa buck thread...man alive is it stupid.Makes me want to puke reading all the knucklehead comments. Thought I'd share this one, heard the guy holding the deer didn't even get it, the dude in the cowboy hat did but his license was suspended for some illegal cattle a.i activity so he got the guy in the camo to hold it so he didn't get in trouble. Boy this internet sure lets people know about all the truths out there.

I'm going to have to quit reading this post, it's like I'm sitting in my grade 4 classroom dealing with 9 yr olds not reading the information, man alive, is it that hard to read the information.
-
READ the post people....he didn't poach it.....internet b.s. No wonder things like this go around, poor guy having his deer float around the new with false info.......because people are too lazy to read the info...this is just plain idiocracy.
-
Wow....I knew they sponsored Canadian residents but didn't know they could sponsor U.S residents. No offense but I sure hope the reglations here never get that way.
-
The oufitter should have everything taken care of for you. I'm sure you wil have given him all the info required and that when you get there he'll have your license for you. As far as i know of outfitters...that is usually the norm.

They sure have their hands full in San Jose but man Detroit controls the puck with their skating. I have always hated the wings and am not a wing fan but I think they've deserved to win every playoff game they've played this yr and if they get by the Sharks I can see them getting to the final,, did I mention I hate them. -
I liked stopping in on occasion. With this new set up and stuff I can't even access the forums at home so no more chat from me I guess.
-
Sure I do....it's normal to feel a bit of remorse. I just remind myself that me taking it's lfe is far better for the deer thanhaving his guts yanked out by one coyote while another rips on it's flank, or having a raven pick at his eyes while he is on his deathbed from the grip of old man winter. Sounds grizzly...but nature is, The fate we deal any animal who's life we take is a better fate than the one awaiting it.
-
"Is it just me, or do the criminals always get the huge bucks?" This is ridiculous........read the post, not illegal, not a criminal, the guy still has it. I guess the big thing here is the idiocracy of people who give false info on the internet.
-
I use them way more often when scouting than when actually hunting. I do use them but when hunting, I could get by without them.

Re: Oil Filter changing tip: popgun, I sure in the heck was.....I'm just glad I checked the oil that weekend before leaving my wife for a few days to fend for herself. She'd have seized that motor. lol
