Re: 1,200 LBS Hog That hog was killed not far from where I live - the local news crews covered it. Seems the thing that been around for several years in this community and finally someone got fed up with it and killed it. If I remember correctly the guy shot the thing in his front yard.

Of coruse it all depends on who you listen to. When it comes to the economy and/or economics, I tend to listen to those that make it their living or have been formally educated in such. But of course you can always listen to some crackpot leftist with a socialist agenda...... http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0221/p01s03-usec.html Despite the ongoing costs of US military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, the outlook for the federal budget has grown substantially brighter. Tax revenues are rising much faster than spending, according to Treasury Department numbers released last week. The recent trend is strong enough that, were it to continue, the budget could move into surplus in barely a year, one economist calculates. Already, the federal deficit is shrinking toward about half the size that it has averaged since 1970, when analyzed as a percentage of gross domestic product. The shift reflects a strong economy, with higher incomes and corporate profits generating a bigger flow of tax revenue. In turn, the Treasury's progress could help the economy by buoying investor confidence in the nation's fiscal position. Although it is a welcome change, the improvement does little to stave off the long-run challenges to the nation's financial health, many economists say. Baby boomers are starting to retire, placing new demands on government. Costs for healthcare programs like Medicare are still projected to rise faster than overall inflation. "The picture is getting brighter," and if there's no recession over the next several years "there are going to continue to be some good strides made," says Mark McMullen, a senior economist at Moody's Economy.com in West Chester, Pa. But "it's unlikely that we're going to see a balanced budget anytime in the near or long term." Now for the whole story you can read the article – the link is provided but it’s simple folks. You can reduce a deficit 2 ways and 2 ways only. You can tax the people to death and pay off your loans or you can give them more money to spend. Simple economics here folks, if you have more to spend then the majority of you are going to spend it. This spending generates revenues for businesses, increased business and increased employment. The effect of all of this is higher earnings and higher tax revenues from those earnings. For all you folks that got bent out of shape about higher earnings in the oil industry, think about what you would be paying if the earnings weren’t high and think about the amount of taxes that was generated from these higher earnings. Taxes that you didn’t have to pay. Now think about what Hillary said, she wants to “take” these earnings and spend them in a manner only a Clinton can think of. You want to get screwed at the pump and by the government then go ahead, vote for a democrat and get ready to feel the love. Oh and before some of you start to spew your socialistic rhetoric about how everyone would be much better off on some sort of governmental handout program - save your breath because I don't subscribe to idiotic notions that the government creates healthy economies. People with money to spend create a healthy economy.

Re: Do you cross the fence - Part 2 So to not be accused of trying to hijack the thread, I will attempt to provide my opinions on legalizing the use of marijuana. Personally, I’m not for it. I think it’s a bad idea but can see some of the arguments given as solid arguments. The war on drugs is costly, extremely costly to the tax paying communities and to date can we even begin to say we’re winning the war? No we can’t and I’m sure that given the judicial system as it is today, we’ll never win the war. But when you legalize something because you’re not willing to fix another problem than you’re admitting defeat and the end result is now you have 2 problems. I believe the use of it reduces productivity in all aspects of your life. If you were to admit to using it then you’ll agree, you become very passive while in your state of euphoria and really accomplish nothing. Will this lead to a decline in overall life for yourself and those around? I believe it will and so what do you have now, people sitting around smoking their hemp and doing nothing. The result will probably be another addict on welfare that society has to maintain. Also studies have shown that use of marijuana the more likely you are to use cocaine and heroin and become dependent on drugs. Once again we have addicts that have become completely dependant on other resources, a drain on society. And all this because it’s legal to use. Medical use, I’m all for it. When trying to cope with a disease or worse, trying to cope with dying then I believe you have the right to be administered any drug that can or will help you cope or bring some comfort to you in the later stages of your life. But these drugs should be treated as drugs and dispensed as any other drug would be, through a doctors orders. Past all these “facts” and “opinions” I’ll offer one more, one of say a more personal response. I’m a parent and I don’t want to see my child’s life possibly go down the drain because we allowed politians to legalize a mind altering drug because they wanted to collect more taxes. Course that's just my opinion, but I think I'm right on this one...

Re: Do you cross the fence - Part 2 I still want to know why the original thread was locked? We were having a half-decent conversation about a hot topic in today’s world and all of a sudden you’re cut off because someone “might” have been offended or something “might” have been taken out of context? Give me a break here folks, it’s political content and by it’s own nature will become controversial at some point but that doesn’t mean we need to stop it. Again, state your point and if you’re not willing to openly listen to a rebuttal then don’t read it, go to the next thread. And if you start a conversation, I believe you have no right to end it. That’s equivalent to taking your ball and going home because you weren’t picked by the good team. Just because someone disagrees with you isn’t cause enough to quit and it surely isn’t cause to lock. And as far as hijacking a thread – why not trying deleting those entries that try to hijack the thread next time? Just because someone steers in a different direction should mean the rest of us have to suffer. Moderating isn’t something that should be taken as lightly as it is around here. Some topics are heated by design, political and religious lead the pack when it comes to heated agreements and disagreements. And **** folks, we hadn’t even gotten to heated yet, it was just getting warm! Course that just my opinion, I could be wrong…

Re: Another Bush Funny If you're going to single out evesdropping then I think we need to have a few more Presidents up there also. Clinton and Carter can play 3CPO and R2D2 and Nixon can play Obey Wan?

Re: Do you cross the fence? [ QUOTE ] 1. I think there should be price restrictions on all medical based spending. ie. Heart surgery will cost X amout of dollors and never go over. Meds will cost X amout. I think that would force some Dr. to drop prices so they would do more buisness. Why spend $5K on Dr. A when you can go to the best Dr. for the same price. Dr. A would have to drop his price to get buisness. (theoretically) [/ QUOTE ] Two problems I can see so far. Are you going to regulate the amount of insurance these doctors are paying for? Malpractice is the number one law suits today. Second, you’re assuming that Dr. A IS AS QUALIFIED as Dr. B – When considering your own healthcare, do you typically choose the cheapest doctor or the most expensive or the one you feel is the best? [ QUOTE ] 2. Legalize and regulate marijuana. Doing so would make the prison population drop dramatically. We could tax it and make tons of money. People could get safer stuff. I think the amount of people who would start that aren't doing it already would be negligable. [/ QUOTE ] Here you really do sound like a liberal. The answer to it all is to legalize, tax it and reap the “tons of money” benefits. Sorry, legalizing something that isn’t legal seems to me like not addressing the problem.

Re: Hardaway banned for gay comments I'm holding out for a Banana Split Heaven myself!

Re: Hardaway banned for gay comments WOW, we have a decent topic to cuss and discuss. As far as being offended – I am an American White Male, I’m the most hated person on the face of the earth. Blacks hate me, gays hate me, women hate me, Asians and Hispanics hate me, muslims hate me and a fair portion of Europe hates me. The gays think they have an axe to grind, I’m freakin’ Paul Bunyun over here. The thing is, I don’t care. I could give a rats behind what you think of me and I will never give you the satisfaction of thinking you offended me in any way. It’s petty and pathetic that this is how you obtain attention to yourself. Hey, go produce a longer lasting lightbulb and I’ll give you my attention but if you think I care that you’re offended because one idiot said he hates you then you’re sorely wrong. And why does these things always go back to some Amendment on the Bill of Rights? I’ll be honest with you, the 1st Amendment should be re-written and the term “RESPONSIBILITY” should be made a part of it. With any freedom given there must be a responsible person on the other end to receive it and be held accountable for it. Freedom is just that, Free to do but being responsible enough to actually handle freedom…well, that’s another discussion for another day. [ QUOTE ] Free speech does not give the right to yell "FIRE" in a crowded room [/ QUOTE ] Oh yes it does however being a responsible person prevents you from yelling it. And yes, even idiots have rights, even if they only confirm that they are an idiot. In this case, it seems that rights afforded to this guy does just that, confirms he’s an idiot. The 2nd Amendment gives you the right to bare arms. There is no provisions in there what-so-ever that protect the idiot that shots himself in the head while cleaning his pistol. Lets all recite Article II of the Bill of No Rights as drafted by Lewis Napper of Mississippi in 1993. · ARTICLE II -- You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means the freedom for everyone, not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots and probably always will be.

Re: My brother asked me today` I have always said that God made us and I really believe we're a "work in process" and that the final version hasn't been made yet. So if God can create us, no reason he couldn't create another one, maybe better, maybe not.

Re: Online College Degrees? Even if you have to go to school at night, do your undergrad in class. From there however I don't see any problem with online, just make sure your classes transfer to the online college and most importantly - make sure it's an acredited school. Are you just wasted your time and money....

Re: I got a stupid question. Ok here's the secret to onions. The rounder they are, the stronger they are. So if you pick up a baseball, you're gonna get hot. The flatter they are, the less strong they are. So if you pick up a baseball that's been run over by a semi, you're gonna get not-so-hot.

Re: Im doing my part Just don't let the electric or gas companies know you're doing it. I remember several years ago back in Charlotte, NC - there was a guy that constructed a windmill of sorts - rather large one that could produce enough energy to run his whole household. Duke Power got wind of it (no pun intended) and slapped a law suit on the guy and actually won. Pathetic isn't it? Good luck, I myself have started looking into alternative means of producing energy. I am concerned about the health of the earth but I do have to admit, saving the money is more of the determining factor.

Re: Your Tax Dollars and The Arts I have no problem with the NEA giving money to support Sundance. What I do have a problem with is the people that make this crap and more of a problem with the people that allow it to be shown or support it. Redford while I don't support his political agendas has always seemed to be someone with a little common sense - I guess he's a great actor because his support of these types of films puts him right up there with the porno film makers and watchers.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070201/ap_on_re_us/parents_fined Every registered Republican should sent there voter registration card to their elected officials with a note saying “You guys have lost it, we’re switching to another party”. In Texas a Republican lawmaker has introduced a bill that would make it a crime for a parent to miss a Parent/Teacher Conference, punishable up to $500.00 and a misdemeanor. I hate to admit it but the Republican Party has let you and I and every other Republican down. Is there even one conservative left out there or are we looking at the future, a future of socialists parading around as Republicans and Democrats. We’re just clipping the tip of the ice berg folks. In the recent past we’ve seen first hand how a corrupt government can and will hold it’s citizens hostage but witnessing legislation in one state banning home protection and if law abiding citizens don’t turn over some of the most basic firearms they will become criminals. We’ve witnessed here at corrupt legislator that wants to make parents criminals by simply not sitting down and talking with what probably is an unskilled person put into place by an government that is unwilling to allow our children to be educated at a level to sustain them throughout life. And now we have a bill in New York that would make it a crime to walk across the street while listening to your ipod! I don’t know about you, but I could care less about someone so distracted by music that they walk in front of a bus and gets spread all out over the asphault. I say more power to the bus drivers! If you can’t walk and listen at the same time then you pretty much don’t deserve to be taking up valuable space on this planet. Want to do some good for this country? Write your lawmakers and demand they stop this petty trivial crap and actually do something good for the country. Here’s an idea, stop worrying about idiots listening to ipods and start worrying about the millions of children that don’t have healthcare. There’s a real problem but if you want to get a politian out of your face quickly then bring that up. And forget about healthcare for adults. If you’re an adult then you need to take upon some sort of responsibility for yourself.
