Had to work today but was able to get out this evening.Got to my stand just inside the woods from a standing cornfield at about 5pm only to listen to a couple of beagles chasing rabbits in the cornfield right up till dark.Grrrrrr! Oh well I'll try it again in the morning.

That's awesome! I've taken my daughter out a few times to drag a deer out.Something they will never forget.Congrats on a great hunt!

Quote - I'd be all for a crossbow only season, as I would a traditional bow only season. Don't see the the need for having a separate crossbow season and a traditional season. Why can;t crossbow hunters and bowhunters share the same season?I mean if I decided that I was going to hunt with a crossbow instead of my compound bow I'm going to hunt exactly the same way as if I was hunting with my bow.The only difference is that I'm using a crossbow and not my compound.Don't see where that is going to make any difference to other hunters.
-
Right, this silly arguement will never end.My 2 cents, what do I care if my neighbor decides to use a crossbow instead of compound? Why should that bother me? Lets all just quit worrying about what somebody else might choose to hunt deer with and just hunt!

Can't say I was surprised when I heard this.Still angers me though. Ever since he's been in office he's done nothing but shown how much he hates this country and what it stands for. The man has got to go. No second term!

I was totally disgusted when I saw the democrats standing and applaulding the Mexican President after he blasted Arizona for their new imigration law.In my opinion the Republicans should have walked out. I also saw Eric Holder and Napalitano standing and applauding and both of them looked like idiots last week when questioned by congress because neither one of them had read the new law.

Been a tough season here in NY with the birds not talking much but this morning this bird wouldn't shut up while on the roost. We set up close and my hunting partner just made a few soft yelps and that was enough to bring him in. 20# ,9.5" beard, 1.25 spurs.

I feel the same way you do.

I'm glad to see that a lot of people are opposing this national health care at these town hall meetings.I've never been so concerned about our country and the direction it is heading. If they pass this we can only hope and pray that it would be political suicide for the democrats and the Obama administration.

I had a good year also ,I got a nice doe with the bow and a small buck with the rifle. So our house won't be going hungry this winter.I had a dmp tag and was tempted to go out and fill it but decided not to.I didn't want to take a chance and spook deer off our property onto the neighbors, I would rather leave the deer for next season. So I gave my dmp tag to the Pastor of our church hoping he would fill it.

Bobcats do attack deer.
-
If you missed a deer you didn't hurt it and certainly didn't kill it.If you hit the deer where you didn't intend to, whether you recover it or not it's called poor shot placement not a miss.

Wow,60 miles one way! Prayers sent and hope she gets the job closer to home and all works out.

I don't see what the big deal is either and some of these post don't make much sense. Some say that the crossbow should be legal but only during the gun season.Like the crossbow is comparable to a gun!LOL Someone hunting with a crossbow is going to need to hunt an undisturbed deer herd just like someone hunting with a bow does , and I agree that hunting with a crossbow is not quite the same as hunting with a bow but it sure is better than hunting with a gun during the gun season.I'd give up gun season before I'd give up bow season.
-
Yeah it stinks! I Emailed the DEC with my thoughts and hope someday for a Oct 1st opener.
-
Yes bobcats will take down a deer ocasionally.

You both will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope things work out.

Something happened to me yesterday and I wanted to share it with you all. I was in the woods cutting down trees for next years firewood. There was one tree in particular that I have been wanting to cut down for a number of years now.It was a large beech tree that had a large maple that was parcially uprooted and leaninging against the beech tree.I knew this was very dangerous situation and gave it alot of thought. First I notched the beech tree and cut the backside to the point where I thought there wasn't much holding it up.I then cut the base of the maple hoping the weight of the tree would take down the beech. It didn't work. After looking things over very carefully I noticed when I cut the back of the beech ,I had cut at an angle and cut under the notch on one side by several inches.I tried using a wedge and that didn't work.I was getting tired and impatient and decided to make a new cut above the original cut.I then put the wedge in the new cut.I had an escape route all cleared of debris so when the tree started to fall I woudn't trip and fall. A couple of hits on the wedge with the sledge hammer and the tree started to lean.I should have got out of there then but I hit it one more time. Then the tree fell, and it fell real fast.Something I didn't think about, with the weight of the other tree leaning on it went down real fast. Instead of running to the side that I had cleared I tried to run in the opposite direction. With wet snow on the ground I slipped and fell flat on the ground.I immediatly tried crawling away and remember looking up and seeing that big maple coming. I really thought this was it ,I'm done for.All I could think of in those few seconds was that I wouldn't see my 6yr old daughter grow up. By the grace of God I am writing this story to you this beautiful December morning. When the tree fell and I chose to run in the other direction,That decision saved my life.I did recieve one small bump on my forehead where a small hemlock came down with the maple and it just grazed my forehead.Another inch or 2 and I doubt I would be writing this morning. I didn't tell my wife how close she came to being a widow. That would just cause her to worry too much everytime I went in the woods. God is so wonderful and I am so thankful.
