Re: NYS season change proposal Adkhunter, Rut or no rut we still lost 2 days of hunting and saying that the DEC wants to have a early muzzleloader season to help control the doe population.Well 3 days ain't going to do much so you can count on them extending this season in the future if that's the reason.

Re: NYS season change proposal I agree Doc, this is just the beginning and like you said we lost 2 prime hunting days! I was still hoping they we're going to open archery season the 1st of Oct but instead it looks like our season will be shortened by a couple of days during the best time of the season. Don't understand why the DEC feels so compelled to give the muzzleloaders an early season.

You asked for my reasons for supporting the legalization of crossbows and one of them was that crossbows may bring more hunters into our sport.Which is in my opinion good defense against the antis.Something that I feel is important,so take it for what it's worth.

ADKhunter you say you want to preserve the history and future of the bow.Well I think we better try to protect the sport of hunting 1st and the best way to do that is to get more people involved.Whether they're hunting with a bow,crossbow or firearm,it really doesn't matter.Otherwise we will be history and not a part of the future.

Ok,I'll give my reasons and opinions for legalizing crossbows. 1st I don't see any reason not to. 2nd Allowing crossbows during archery season I don't feel will affect or change the way I hunt now. 3rd it may bring more hunters into our sport.Some people don't have the time to practice to become proficient with a bow so may opt to hunt with a crossbow. 4th someday when I'm old and unable to shoot my bow I will have another option so I can still enjoy the archery season.

I don't see where legalizing crossbows is going to hurt anything.What difference does it make to you whether your neighbor hunts with a compound,recurve, long bow or crossbow during archery season? The way I see it if you don't think crossbows are challenging enough then continue to hunt with your bow but don't deny some potential hunters from entering our sport just because crossbows aren't your choice of hunting implements.
