Re: stupid yote!! well wnthunt if you look at the date it was jan 21 last year lol, I ended up with 125 or so last year and stopped in the first week in feb i believe, this eyar I think the hides will hold a bit longer with the late priming up but I only have abotu 55 or so this far!been a tough year!every weekend is crappy and the coyotes are not calling! I still am expecting close to 100 before I put the gun away, they will start callign great once mating season comes around in a couple weeks!

Re: Yote caller truthfully if you do not want to spend alot of money and have no experiance a bellow call is awsome and work great!! I ahve had mine for years works in all weather conditions and anyone can use it, lots of tiem a buddy borrows it and usually ends up with a coyote or two!! Good luck in your decision!!

Re: Man, I love your country I think i woudl rather be in the local garbage dump than toronto, way to many peopel and to many liberals for my liking!! I liek to have to wait for a car once a week at our stopsign, i like to drive in the country and not see a farm for 30 miles, I hate lots of people!!

Re: dog help please!! the vet is gone for a few days and she said she shoudl be feeling better and next week we decide, she is not bleeding anymore but her legs are gone just sbout compleatly now, she could not jump off the bed this mornign!I just got done talking to her and she is havign a hard tiem walking, not sure if its part of the medicine or her arthritus bad, I think she is jsut week from not eating to much, she will not touch her hard food, I got her some cans that are more than I eat but at least she is eatign a bit! I appreciate all the thoughts but I am going to give her one more day and if not good friday afternoon and gettign her put down, I am sick but if her legs are not good anymore and the vet did not really think it was a good idea with the operation having a small chance of gettign better seeing her age and her ability and how she has been on the downfall for the last year! I think I am finally coming to the fact that she will be gone soon! If her legs were good and it would give her a extra month i would go for it but we will see how she is gettign around in a day or so! I just have no idea how I am going to be able to bring her to the vet to get put down sitting here thinking about ti is nearly killing me!! I guess its all part of life!! BTW WWH I deffinatly will be gettign another dog,no talkign aback to me like wife and kids, listen when i say soemthign, never throw temper tantrums, all around mans[or womans] best friend!! I have always wanted a malimute[spelling] I hear they are pretty good dogs[or wolfs lol] and they are awsoem looking!! Guess time will only tell one decision at a time !!

Re: Wolf Attack!!! steve all I think abotu is yellowstone, the ranchers want all them dead and with stories like this they might get ther way if they can prove they are dangerous, which I do not believe theya re to humans! I hear the line" kill them all" every weekend talking to ranchers abotu coyotes, it really tickes me off big time when i hear it!

well my baby shepard is 12, she has ben having a few problems with arthritus but soem meds I got have been helping unless extreem temp changes I carry her up the stairs,friday night she started to bleed a bit and never ate at all, I thought in heat again and never though again, sunday started to worry, can she she is gettignskinny and really thirsty,she started to bled more and stinky,then last night got sick a yellow puss, I brought her to the vet this am [closed for weekend] the vet looked at me and siad this funny name and explained it as uterous infection, she said the only solution in spaying her, she gave me soem meds to try and get the infection down for a coupel weeks and it shoudl help but will never go away unless getign the 250$ operationand they can not guarantee it will work!If i knew the operartion would work I would spend a grand [take a loan if had to] she is part of my familly,she is the one that I have told my secrets and she can keep quiet lol!she is the one I went for a drive with when my grandfather died, she was there with me!she sleeps in the waterbed with me and the wife every night and when I wake up she is cuddled up by my chest,she is my best friend I believe and has been for a long tiem!! I have no idea what to do, if she is suffering I can and will not let her as much as it kills me, I will give the meds a coupel days and if no better will get her put down, what i am worried abotu is the operation, do I put her through a operation at her old age , or do I let her go to sleep!I am not ready to let her go but want to do the right thing, I am worried that at her age the operation and everything may be to much for the old girl! I jsut do not want to see her suffer any more than possable,Just want to know would you put her down or attempt a operation that the vet said may not work, she may never be the same after , or may kill her on the table?she also said that the operation if ti goes good she may only get a short tiem after seeing her arthritus! Re: Wolf Attack!!! they said tonight they shot the wolf later and it was skinny and limping bad and alone! i still have a hard time to believe that a animal who has spent his whole life scared of humans will attack unless provoked or unless he is not a pure wolf, dog blood does not go well in wild animals!!I do wish we would hear of what the checkup on the animal showed up would be interesting to find out! I have seen quite a few wolves and thoasands of coyotes soem so sick with mange and skinny and blisters and once they sence humans theya re gone in a second!i find it hard to believe a wolf with the energy to fight like the guy said attacked him in daylight!! Buckee I tend to dissagree with you, this will be one of the cases that is used to massecure wolves, I believe liek any animal they need to be controaled but so many are up to totally get rid of coyotes and wolves and cases like thsi will help in there fight against the rules!! I just hate to get people all scared of animals when they should not be!! respect them is what you have to do to them!!

Re: Border Open????? I heard that antler wasa opened a month or so ago! At least I had a guy from montana call me and said he wanted my antlers but was only paying 8 a pound for brown,he said the border was now open!!Thsi was abotu a month before x-mas!

Re: gotta love frostbite!!!! little demented I think!!Spent all day todya and ended up with a coyote anda fox, the coyote was sittign on a guys bales as I asked permission shot him from his step and the fox was seen running along a trail and got stuck in the snow in the field! called abotu 10 spots and never seen a coyote, while calling! At least it was up toabotu -25 today nice sunny day but no coyote movement!

today after a 3 day storm I was expecting a perfect day of coyote hunting, got dressed in abotu 5 layers to brave the -35 with a -45 windchill,no big deal [so i thought] Me and a buddy headed out at first daylight got to our first spot walked abotu 300 yards in and started to call, I looked over at himand seen his nose was turnign white,my toes were gettign sore,and my beard was froze to my facemask,to top it all off my glasses looked like the frost on the inside of a freezer! we went back to the truck and drove to a new spot which took abotu 15 minutes, we called it then another and another all the tiem plowing about a foot of snow on the main roads,At about noon we got to a old farmyard with tons of tracks down the road we parked inside and started to call,, within abotu 15 minutes I spot movement from a slough 1/2 mile away, a coyote, I worked with him for abotu 20 minutes and he came within 500 yards through deep snow and was spooked by a stupid snowmobile, he was gone in a minute, we were both cold by now and got to the truck and could not move, 2 of the wheels were froze up!it tok us about a hour to loosen up all the ice that formes around the calipers,I had to jack the wheels up , block it up with soem old blocks I found , climb underneath and break the ice with a rock and screwdriver I had!By this time my finger tips are tingling[still are] my toes are sore, my buddies nose and ears have a bit of frostbite,we even left coyote huntign with about a hour of daylight left! All day seen 1 coyote even to cold for the furry buggers! Guess what tomorrow I will be stupid enough to do the whole thing over again! I have hunted in colder weather and longer but today with the wind and blowing snow was just to much, possbaly its the age showing up on me lol, just can not handle it like I used to be able to!!

Re: primos calls I have never tried it, I use alot of the primos calls, really like the regulater 14 I believe it is, I also have had super luck with the mini mag howler,I also have had good luck with the raspy coaxer, it is a jackrabbit call and a mouse squeeker all in 1 just cover the end and there is a little squeeker in it, Then there is the still jackrabbit and cottontail calls, both good!good luck on your choice!

How many of you are staying home and going to be in bed before midnight like me? Wife says its old age but I would rather be in the fields at daylight shootign coyotes than sitting over a toilet in the mornign anyday lol!! just wondering if I am the only lame one in north america or is there 1 or 2 more!

Re: 1 happy camper! I have had days that seem perfect and not a single responce yet the next a ugly day and come home with 5 ! Coyotes are hard to predict, I ahve found before a storm or rain they seem to callbetter or just after! Howloud did you have it on? I would not start out to loud, if they hear it really loud from 200 yards they might be gone, Plus I hardly ever use the electronic call unless windy were I can set it away from me and I leave it run continuos becouse I cannot shut it off,If I could I would only run it for a few minutes, shut off for a few and so on! I really find when its continuos osund they can really pinpoint exactly were the sound is coming from and bust you easier! good luck!!

Re: Only in Saskatchewan Saskbucks that does not bother me as much as when i went a few weeks ago, there was at least 5 120" deer nice 5 by 5 that would be nice in a couple years, i read the tags and most were older hunters that have shot there share of nice deer, why not shoot a doe last day instead of a yound deer and do not care about the antlers! If its a kid or soemone who will use the antlers and be proud of them go ahead but when yu are just going to pretty well throw them out, let the deer grow up and shoot a doe to fill the freezer!!

the primos mini mag is my #1 howler now, I ahve had great luck with it, did you get the tape withit?It really helps to let oyu understand the different howls, What i do is go out and houw a few hsort howls with a few barks and sit still for a few minutes, if nothign is spotted go to the disress call and a few barks right after the distress and if possable in the middle ,I want to make it sound as real as possable like a coyote is tryign to catch a rabbit or fawn, I fool a round quirte a bit on slower dyas with differnt hows, soem days will go with greetign soem will try callange and in a few weeks will go mainly to a invitation howl or greetings mostly, I will them most of the tiem not even work a distress call couse they will ahve love on the mind mostly!Any single coyote whether female or male will check it out couse they are looking for a mate and see the=t there is one in the area, jsut remember with howling they will usually coem in slower, tat si why i love it down here in the open were I can see a ways and change up according to what is needed to bring them in!! Well Cory just a few hour drive you and ty jump in the truck and coem on down we will pound a few yotes,I am free this weekend! After the storm that is coming in tomorrow I am expecting a super wekend, hoping for another dozen or so!! Good luck, any questions let me knwo i will try to help, all I know is everyday i use the howler I get more amazed at whta can be doen with it, BTW if you ahve a double coem in and shoot one grab the howler and blow it to sound like you jsut stepped on your dof=gs tail, even if you just see one still do it and stay put for 5 more minutes at least, you will amazed at what happens if another one is in eharing distance!!

Doc I am pretty sure they do whiten up just do not get as thick as the ones up here, I do know that a texas bobcat sells for more money that a canadian bobcat, just the fur texture , sure up here we get thick ones but they get the shiney color that is sort of looks liek you are looking right into it, makes for perdy coats! My fur buyer actually showed me bobcat prices from up here and a sale from southern cats I was totally amazed!!

Re: Couple questions on coyote behavior I doubt that a coyote will be waiting for a hunter to shoot a deer, I do know coyotes will sit and wait if there is a wounded or sick deer and wait for the best oppertunity ot get it, I also know deer and coyotes will sleep in the same areas, more than 100 times I have called slough bottoms and had both coyotes and deer come out, soem times no bigger than 100 ft by 100 ft, saterday i was parked on a hill glassing the distance for coyotes as I was warming up and looked down to a dugout with fireweed all around it, out coemes 6 deer at 100 yards, next then I know I catch movement and a coyote was on the run not 25 ft from were the deer were, I knwo he was not hunting the deer couse i yote will not even try but they were just having a nap in the same spot! I would really guess that they smelled the blood,A coyote can hear a med range call from well over a mile away with with a bit of wind blowing the opposite way,with a wind who know how far they can hear it, with there noses I know a coyote can wind you at at least 1/2 mile away couse i have been, this is wiht cover scent also, if they can smell human oder that far away how far can they smell a puddle of blood somethign they are looking for all the time especially if there is a bit of breeze,What prob happend is one was wondering downwind a ways smelled it came for a meal and was nice enough to invite the rest of the local gang with a few howls, these howls that he made are the ones you try to make when youa re out there huntign them, its soemthign they hear all the time and usually means a free meal!!

Today went out called all day prob 20 spots ended up with 4 [actually 5 but one was not keepable, had very bad mange, shot him as he sat in a slough bottom i was going to call, I decided to give a few squeeks and he sat there looking up, had to shoot him from abotu 325 yards, only shot I was going to get]and missed a fox that came in on the run and winded me at abotu 200, called 2 spots and had coyotes runnign the other way from 3/4 mile off and one more spot had 3 spot me walking to my stand! Pretty good few days off would of even been better if yesterday was at all sucessful!

Re: great christmas! went out all day today called 11 stands and never seen a coyote lol!! Figures!! Was nicer today and cooler also, only downfall was cloudy with soem snow falling off and on, the must of new it was coming the past 2 days, Hopefully tomorrow they are really hungry again!!
