Nikon Monarch vs Leupold Mojave BX3 42mm vs 50mm
need2hunt replied to slb9981's topic in Hunting Equipment
What are you going to be hunting with them? If your going to be hunting for deer and turkey then I don't know if I could substantiate an extra $100. If your doing a lot of long range glassing or hunts that require constant glassing to find the game then that might be a different story. I've used the Monarch and the Monarch X and have had no problems with either. I haven't compared them to the other ones your looking at but can tell you that the monarchs have covered all my hunting needs. -
I have had experience with this rest and would give it a thumbs down.

what you all think about hunting with a 20 ga
need2hunt replied to hunter109's topic in Turkey Hunting
Just like any other gun i would use for turkeys. Try out some shells and see how it patterns at different ranges and then hunt with it within it's lethal range -
In Illinois we have 5 seasons, when you apply you will be asked which county and which season you want to hunt. So not only are you limited to only 1 part of the TOTAL 5 seasons you are also limited to 1 county instead of the entire state. Only landowners with more than X acres (think it's 40 could be wrong) are allowed a tag that lets them hunt there own private land for the full 32 days. Your permit is good for 1 turkey. IL allows up to three permits. As a nonresident you would need a turkey permit, either an IL NR 5-day hunting license or IL NR hunting license, and a habitat stamp.

I voted slate. It's easy to learn and makes great sounds, easy to carry 3-4 of them for different scenarios and can also change up sound by switching strickers. I usually hunt with slates and a Primos Double Stack mouth call, I will pull out a box call if nothing else is working.

You can set a blind up anytime and the turkeys won't notice it at all. I would suggest if you are doing a morning hunt to have the blind in place with the chairs in it the day before. The turkeys won't care if you did it the morning of the hunt but it sure makes it a lot easier on a dad if all he has to do is walk out to the blind with his daughter and get in and get set. (also make sure you tie the blind down if it's going to be windy or stormy the night before, it's no fun to try to go find the blind while your child waits - and yes I have done that lol)

I've used different scents over the years and haven't been impressed with their effectiveness. I do use the HS scent waffers though to help mask human scent. My all time favorite grunt call is a Knight & Hale EZ grunter. I've also had good luck with the can call but will admit as it became more popular its effectiveness has seemed to go down

Bump 1 time, I like to give my RT buddies first chance, if no one is interested I'll look at posting it elsewhere. Will consider reasonable offers.

I am looking to sell my Hoyt Maxxis35 60-70 28" Draw AP Camo, I've had it for a year and it has served me well. Over the last few years I have shot the Hoyt Vulcan, Katera and Alphamax they have improved every year and I can say that the Maxxis 35 is the sweetest shooting Hoyt that I have had the privilege to shoot. This particular bow currently has a few squirrels, a fall turkey, a 140 class buck and a 400+ pound black bear under it's belt and I'm hoping someone can give it a good home and keep racking up the kills with it. I would like to sell as bare bow. As I stated the bow was used for one year, condition wise I would say used but like new condition as it does not have any noticeable scuffs or marks. Cables look good, string needs waxing and would work fine for another year but I would suggest possibly replacing it. Looking for $600 shipped in the lower 48. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow, while the blizzard of 2011 rages outside my window Thanks! G

We have just had some light snow so far, but the wind kicked up about an hour ago and it's basically a white out. Cant tell whats falling from the sky or getting kicked off the ground. Kids are home early from school and they have also canceled school for tomorrow so they are happy

Last year Hoyt came out with their carbon bow which was a high dollar item compared to other bows. They must have gotten some good response because they came out with another one this year. Looks to me like Matthews is just trying to see how much SOME consumers are willing to spend as I doubt it cost much more to manufacture.

I have few questions for you concerning hunting channels. What hunting channels do you get? (Outdoor Channel, Sportsmens Channel, Pursuit Channel, Versus, WildTV, etc) and could you please list them in the order of watch most to watch least. Past the amount of time that you watch a channel, do you feel that some channels are at higher quality levels than others, if so could you list them in order of highest quality to least? Do you watch shows live or do you DVR them? Do you spend more of your free time watching television or on the internet? Do you watch hunting shows on the internet, and if so do you watch the whole show or only parts of it? Thanks!
