  1. I love mine. Easy to shoot, easy to dial in, recoil isn't bad at all. If you want to mount a scope, you have options as well. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  2. I like my Howard Leight Impact Sports. They're reasonably priced around $50 or so and they have a NRR of 22db when the sounds exceeds 82db. They're slim enough that they don't get dislodged when shooting long guns. I do double up with foam ear plugs when shooting in a line with other guys shooting ARs. 3. Happy New Year one and all...
  4. I witnessed crows chasing an owl through the woods when deer hunting approximately 15 years ago. It was super loud...Between the crows squawking and the owl busting branches as it was flying through the woods, the woods were not quiet that morning...
  5. 308 is a great round. I just finished putting together a 308 AR but haven't gotten to the range yet with it. I like your stock. On my Savage bolt action 308, I have the standard Accu Stock from Savage. I would appreciaate the adjustable cheek weld...
  6. I put 2 3/4" Lightfield Hybred EXPs through my 12 GA H&R Ultraslugger. Groups real nice...
  7. If you're going to carry, you had better be proficient with your weapon of choice. Drawing from your choice of holster/carry location, clearing malfunctions, dropping and inserting mags, being able to hit what you are aiming at. Practice at the range is essential to ensure that proficiency. Most ranges will not allow you to draw and fire but you can practice that dry at home. I'd suggest using some dummy rounds to practice malfunctions if you have a range that will allow. Not a bad idea to set up a double feed in a semi-auto to see how that looks and how to clear one.
  8. No little wimpy 5.56 in this Field & Stream article... http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2014/07/finally-4-ar-style-rifles-chambered-for-big-game-hunting?cmpid=enews071614b&spPodID=020&spMailingID=6767597&spUserID=MTY3NjkwOTIyMjkS1&spJobID=481778498&spReportId=NDgxNzc4NDk4S0 I've got a 6.8 SPC for whitetail here in NY. It's a great compromise between 5.56 and .308. Recoil is light and follow up shots quick and easy.
  9. I'm going to concentrate on that same area, 165-168 grains...
  10. This is the first trip to the range with my new Savage rifle. I mounted a Mueller Tactical APV 4-14x42 scope on Burris XTR low rings. I am shooting Hornady 168 gr BTHP Match ammo out of her. You can see how I walked the groups in to the red dot in the center... The bigger squares are 1"x1". So, it looks like I have the shots in about a 1/4". I ran out of the Hornady ammo at that point or I would have tried a few more with that three shot group. I burned through about 30 rounds of ball ammo that grouped about 3" @100 yards prior to shooting the better stuff. When I start reloading for 308 at least I have somewhere to start.
  11. Looks totally awesome...But, overpriced.
  12. It was 1997, I was 25 years old and heading out in the woods for the first time with a bow and arrow. I was in a wooden tree stand that the property owner had built overlooking a ravine. a yearling doe walked up the ravine toward the stand and angled to my right. she was approximately 25 yards away standing broadside. As I released the arrow, she took a step forward and my four bladed Muzzy struck her in the femoral artery. She ambled approximately 15 yards and then piled up and that was it...
  13. I guess that I never followed up after my range trip. The attached target shows an 8 shot 100 yard group. I attribute the flyer to the nut behind the trigger. This group was the last of 40 rounds that I shot when I took this gun to the range for the first time. I also included a picture of the gun with the camo form tape applied for hunting.
  14. I agree...To change the safety like that would be expensive, if not impossible...
  15. I still have a stripped lower in my cabinet...I guess it is going to stay that way for a while until the madness passes. I will never pay a premium for something that I could have gotten cheaper a few weeks ago. Any business that I see price gouging will never receive my business again...CTD comes to mind. They aren't all that cheap anyway.
  16. Can you be a little more specific? I've mounted scopes, changed safeties, changed stocks and forends, swapped out barrels, etc. to my 870's...I have one set up for home defense and one for whitetail...
  17. Ditched the ACS stock in favor of the STR...Same cheek weld, slightly lower weight and a reversible push button QD sling mount. I decided that I did not need the storage compartment of the ACS. I use the battery tubes to store some extra foam ear plugs, just in case...I also added an IKH rear single point sling attachment. I'm not sure that I like that one though. I might swap it out down the road for a Magpul unit. I also have two quick release sling swivels just in case I want to run a two point sling while hunting...The Badger Ordnance Tactical Latch was also added due to the scope mount...
  18. Cool...Is this going to be a concealed carry piece? Did you pick up a holster yet?
  19. With as warm as it already is here in NY, I might invest in one too. If this weather keeps up, May will be a warm one. 75+ here today...
  20. I tried the 55 grainers out of my Adams Arms rifle again today just for the heck of it...Another 60 or so rounds later and the results were the same...All over the target board. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't me...Shot the 6.8 again today and again the groups were good. No pictures this time. Adjam5...The Adams Arms is 1:7. I am going to try some heavier rounds out of her...She should settle down with something that she likes...I was just hoping that it would be the cheaper 55 grain stuff and not the more expensive heavier rounds. Oh well...You can't take it with ya. For 200 rounds of Hornady 110 grain BTHP ammo, I spend approximately $175 shipped to my house. That is the round that I shot that good group with and that is the round that I will be hunting whitetails with come November. I do not reload...At least not yet. If you want more information on the 6.8, please check out 68 Forums.com...There are a ton of knowledgeable people there with more info than I can provide. I think those big boomers are neat but the expense kept me from looking too hard.
