Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr replied to eastern deer hunter's topic in Rifles & Accessories

Send the through the mail and get caught and you will be spending your nights with Bubba. Im sure it will result in felony charges.

Im sorry, I forgot to ad that this group is the best I have done at 300 yards with said rifle.

Mine had a 6.5 lb trigger when I purchased it. I ordered the 3 lb spring kit with the 50lb hammer spring and the springs to fit the barrel locks. I have a smooth as glass trigger that breaks at 2.75 lbs and equals or exceeds anything I have on a bolt action. As far as accurcy if it will only group 1.5 inches I would send it back and they will shoot it for you and let you know if it is the barrel. my 300 will shoot .25 inch groups at 100 yards

In my opinion Varget is the powder for the 7mm-08. I use it in my wifes and daughters rifle both chambered for the 7mm-08. I have 3 bullets with the same powder charge in both rifles that shoot sub moa. My wife has taken her big buck, Shiras moose and elk with it using the 150 grain Barnes triple shock

I have one each of the WSM calibers. I have at least one each of the Ultra mags and I have many standard calibers as well. They all have taken something but I like the big heavy weights. Oh and I just bought a 50-110 for my Pro Hunter. Do I qualify to join the club?

My wife finally dropped her first elk yesterday. After having cows come by 2 days in a row she figured it was her destiny to add one to the freezer. She has pass on cows for the past 2 years waiting to take a bull. Im glad she finally realize there is nothing wrong with taking a cow. I was there and she shot it with a 7mm-08 using 150 grain Barnes TSX. It dropped in its tracks and I couldnt beleive the damage that little bullet did. Ruined more than half of a shoulder.

Actually if you head down towards Kentucky there is elk in Virginia. You can use or at least you used to be able to use your deer tags on them. -

I only see a few units where you are allowed 2 bears. Better get the regulations and check it out. -
Man it was a hard morning. 1st day of elk season and everything went wrong to start out. Started out and got the the road, wife says you forgot to put my bipod on. So I whip around and head back to the house only to get pulled over by a young county officer doing 83 in a 65. He asked going to a fire and I said no. I forgot my wifes bipod and we have to go back hoime for it. Today is the first day of elk season. Man Im getting a ticket. Goes back to his 4x4 and comes back said keep it down about 15 miles an hour. Lets me go and I thank him. Get to the hunting spot late. Im thinking it really sucks to get here late. Head into the woods and I leave my wife at her spot. Go ahead to mine and walk down over the ridge and set down for a breather. All of a suddedn her comes a cow with 2 calves. No bull. All of a sudden I hear a lound bugle! It sent chills down my spine! The buig bull came busting through the thick brush. Sounded like someone coming up the mountain on a dozer. He gets about a hundred yards before I can see his antlers. He stops and bugles about ever 5 steps. Suddenly there is a hole in the brush where he stops. He bulgles, BANG he is down, opps he gets up BANG he is down again. Oh no is takes of sliding down the mountain. Its really steep. Suddenly he hits a small level spot and stops. Went back to wifes spot and she is gone. She got cold and went back to truck. Phoned all my buddies and they sere all working and I didnt want to wait so Back after him I went. I packed him out and make Im still one sore pup,( old dog really) Some people say I have a golden horse shoe burried deep in my buttocks but I say I am blessed. I have bagged an elk every year since I started elk hunting.

Encore Pro Hunter? Anyone have one?
Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr replied to Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr's topic in Rifles & Accessories
I got to take it out yesterday afternoon and I got a good one. 100 yard groups that a dime will cover and that was my first load. Hey Grady, Where in Virginia are you located? Im originally from Farmville. I do miss htere this time of year. We are already getting some mt snow here. Elk season starts Friday and Im really going nuts waiting for it to get here. -
Do you own one and how does it shoot? I bought one last weekend and put a new scope on yesterday. As soon as I bought it I start reading about all these barrels that the chamber and bores dont line up. Well I will see shortly if I have a good one or not. I bought a 300 Win Mag and a 338 Win mag barrels with it. Both 28 inches and Fluted. I put the scope on the 300 and have mounts coming for the 338. Then I will select a scope for it. Probably another Leupold VXII.

Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr replied to Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr's topic in Hand Guns & Accessories
Shot it this past weekend and was shooting Buffalo Bore Ammo. Shooting 360 grain cast lead and was shooting 2.5 inch groups at 100 yards. This is the first load I have tried and Im almost sure it can do better. -

Im located 20 miles west of Clark Fork. Stop in and say high when your up! -
How many here have purchased either a 500 or 460 S&W. How do you like them?? Are you shooting jacketed or cast bullets? I have purchased a couple and still havent had a chance to shoot them.

Re: calling moose I tried a couple of moose calls. One morning I heard a cow for the first time and then knew that I was no where close so I tossed my calls. I got my bull the second morning and my wife got hers saturday a week ago. I just dont have much faith in using some of these calls. At least the ones I purchased. From my experience they arent to smart or just have no fear. As for their rut, I was told it peaks around the middle of this month so there should still be some action going on.

Qut done by my better half!
Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr replied to Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr's topic in Big Game & Exotics
Re: Qut done by my better half! [ QUOTE ] Nice and congrats...did you measure it yet? [/ QUOTE ] Yes! Hers was 42 inches and mine was 38. She got me. Mine had a heavier body. I killed mine before they started chasing cows and I figure that may of had something to do with the weight difference. Here is a pic of mine if you missed it! http://www.realtree.com/forums/showflat....rue#Post1036386 -
