Pretty big deal for something that was easily preventable. I wonder what would've happened if average joe did that and got pulled over by the DNR and they caught it...

Always a good thing when the news broadcasts hunting/hunting related sports in a postive way!

You know it's been about six months now since my deer season finished from hunting opening day archery to closing day rifle and after a long winter :yawn:of being somewhat satisfied with my last years deer season, with all the effort that was put in, i'm starting to get the itch again! :gunsmilie: I've got a new spot picked out where there's some monster bucks and I can't wait to get home and start scouting and throw up the game cam! What are your guys plans for scouting this spring? I noticed lots are busy shed hunting.

I can sure agree with buckee on that one, i know i havn't been the most consistant on here in the past few years and it's little different coming back on and not knowing everyone and whats been going on lately, there are alot more members than before. The forum has become alot more diverse with the expansion ex. there only used to be a deer hunting forum, now there's deer hunting, Archery, ext. Not to say the forum doesn't benifit from that, all the forums get used, but it used a be smaller and a tighter nit group of people. I guess you can kinda compare it to living in a small town before to movin to the city. Before there was not as many forums so everyone usually crossed paths one way or another.

Bears are definately not something to fool around with especially at your home. As cute and snuggly as they look I've seen many fights between bears their speed, power and strength is just phenominal. Definately something not to mess around with especially with how aggresive they are towards protecting their food or cubs!

usually just a jig worm/minnow or if the lake is really hot i've even just used a yellow twister tail.

I thought a 17" skull would be a little small for a 400+ bear! Congrads!

So saturday I went scouting for a spot to hang a stand for sunday. I found my spot and just as I was leaving I heard a gunshot in the same area I was hunting. So the next morning I get up super early to set my stand and by the time I was on my way back to the truck to get my gear it was light, and I noticed on a trail right infront of my stand there was a good blood trail, which I have not a problem with good on the person who shot one I figured, but I soon found that the blood trail was not being followed and I could tell that the deer was going to die from the shot because how much it was bleeding, and as I followed it, it ran across the road and died in my neighbours feed lot left to rot! I tell you I was not a happy camper when I discovered this, and have not the slightest clue who it was. Not ethical in my books by any means!

I know up here in Manitoba the deer hunting has been completely opposite of what happened last year in many places. For instance this year I went back to an area with a few buddies that we went to last year and seen about 50 deer compared to last year where we seen one. In southern part of the province people aren't seeing deer like they did last year. I know the wolf and coyote populations are up over most o northern Manitoba and over the years there has been quite a decrease in all big game populations in most areas. Disease is also hiting some areas very hard.

Well here I am grounded from the skies due to Manitoba wonderful winter weather for the 5th day in the last two weeks. Oh well the benifit is I guess I get to spend more time on here . And it gives me more time to plan out my hunting expiditions for the weekends and look at google earth!! Unfortunately I can't hunt big game all winter... might have to try trapping or yote huntin this winter.

Well I officially got the monkey off my back for archery deer! Saturday I spent three hours looking for a spot to hang a stand and about an hour later after hanging it a small buck came in down my drag line and I plugged him at my last shooting lane with about a 20 yard shot! I wasn't being too picky I thought anything with antlers is going down to get the first one over with. I've shot bear before with the bow but this is my first whitetail, man what a feeling. Time to go trophy huntin'

Well I'm excited to say that I found a new spot to go late season moose hunting! I was actually looking somewhere to hang a deer stand which was in an area I've never hunted before and it had just snowed the night before. So, as i walked for about three hours looking for the prime spot i ended up seeing more fresh moose tracks than deer tracks it was just teaming with tracks this bush!! And to boot the late season is open two weeks in that area. But I think the ringer really is that i found a spot to hunt moose and big deer just a ten minute ride from my cabin!!! I can't wait for the late season to see what it brings. time to get some maps!

I have a piar of those and they are a great boot! especially for cold weather! I did have to return my first pair though because the out sole started falling off but the store i bought them at had no trouble retuning them and getting me a new pair:)
