My grandfather was well known in this area for his blacksmith skills as well as his hunting knife making when I was about 10 I would say I begged him to build me one. I looked threw lots of his knife books and picked out the shape I wanted and me and him sketched out how we wanted it to look. I would help him in the forage and he would get me to do alot of the work...I got to pick the handle and guard we worked together and he let me do as much as I could without him taking over LOL we never really gave it a lot of time in the finishing department as I suspect he thought I would ruin it and I think he kinda made it to keep me quite LOL not long after he had a stroke and was still tinkering around but nothing like before and as the years went his age really took affect. I hadn't used this knife in years and had set in closet at mom and dads probably since the summer it had made. I dug it out and took it to one of my grandfathers best friends who use to work with him and still makes knifes today. I had him made a sheath and all so ad my grandfathers and my name on the blade along with cleaning it up. this knife may not be the best but it holds alot of meaning to me and will be carrying it on my moose hunt this fall along with every other time I will be going hunting

I have been out of bow hunting for a few years and I was never happy with the pin sight I had mainly because I could never get pins close enough for what yardage I wanted....I have been looking on cabelas and bass pro and I see sights that are cheap and some worth a small fortune IMO and cant see or do i know the difference ? so my question is what is the difference in cheap to expensive bow sights and what should I look for in a quality sight ? thanks Justin

why camo and not all hunter orange?
total disaster replied to total disaster's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree with this as my bow deer I shot with blue jeans and nice pretty blue hoddie LOL I just wanted to see if I was only one who thought alot of this is just for our eyes -
been thinking alot and yes thats scary LOL deer are suppose to be color blind right ?? I know a few color blind ppl and they all tell me if I was to dress in camo I would stick out like a sore thumb but if I wear orange I would blend in and they cant see it well ....so do we just feel better wearing camo that we think blends in or should we dress head to toe in orange? just something thats been on my mind

our season opens on the 8th of Oct and will be our labs first season so we should have lots LOL is there only one entry per person ??

thats pretty good!! I have seen double that on normal day sometimes !! where I hunt we have strong tide (rises and falls 14-16 feet every 12 hours 6 hours coming 6 goin) only teal or black duck we loose is in grass but now we have a dog so that should change ...geese are tricky for us to as we crawl on them and have lost some crips but retrieved them the next day in the same area ...when we crawl the wind is blowing off shore and about 40 mph and boat is 200 yards away atleast all in all we are pretty determined to get crips and I also will leave my spread to help others with crips if we are diver hunting

the other thread got me wondering. how many birds do you think you lose in a year? I know when I hunt eiders its crazy and I have left hunts because it was just one of them days.

10 Gauge Black Cloud Choke Tubes?
total disaster replied to Dakota's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
not sure one that but I was told a local dealer had some hevi steel coming for 10 ga that didnt need a special choke ....not sure if it was just me but my experence with 12 ga black cloud was it sucks LOL just my thoughts tho -
i have shot 4 banded birds but the one that always gets me wondering is i shot a hen eider one time...and when I got the info back on the band it was 7 + years old and banded within a half mile of where I shot it

BTW CONGRATS on the goose!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
take the breast and slice a crossed the grain and make little steaks and fry like deer steak I bet there isn't much difference in taste (unless they are on a diet that's much different then here) also can dice up the meat and boil for about hour or until really tender then drain water and add sweet and sour and serve with rice are my 2 fav

looks sharp man... try the new rem steel loads at 1700 fps!!!
-
LOL I am sure you wont have no issue with your weights holding and they are cheap to make !
-
thats odd really as I run 7 decoys plus bouy and 30 feet of 1/4 inch rope your bottom must be super loose
-
looks good...my only down fall would be carrying alot of them around...I use alot of the anchors that fold up ...anywhere from 2-10 lb but mostly about 4-6 lb and they hardly ever move
-
its just the bang LOL I honestly hate 12 ga for kick and I have 10 single BPS and gold and take them all over my sliver any day that being said IMO if you are hunting decoying birds and shots under 40 yards I use #2 or #3 only cause i can't get 4s yet...my theroy is the geese and eiders have very thick feathers which a small #2 bb would be able to penetrate easier then a large BB or BBB which would eat up alot of energy just in the feathers
