Re: The Deer are gone I Hate Poachers!!!! If I were you I would turn them in to game warden and tell them what you have found and seen. Most of the time they won't go over and arrest them but they will keep an eye on them and bust them red handed. "I HATE POACHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Well I had stayed away from my food plot area for 2 weeks and I it payed off this morning. At 7:00 I had three deer coming to the plot, two of them were butting heads and playing around. There was a 4 point, spike and a button buck. They all got within 15 yards of my stand. The 4 point hit both feeders after eating on the clover for about 20 minutes and went back into the woods behind the feeder in front of my while the other two were still eating the clover. Then the spike and button went to the scrapes and the spike licked a branch and peed in one of the scrapes but didn't scrape it , then he went to the massive rub acrost the way and rubed his forehead on it. Then they were headed into the woods and I heard my Dad come out of the house and the screen door slam, but the deer didn't even pay it any mind and kept on walking. About 30 minutes later the 4 pointer comes back out onto the plot then proceeds to the scrapes also and licks a branch and walks into the woods where the other two went(at this time it was about 8:15). After thanking God about 50 times for the experience I decided I had given them enopugh time to get well into the woods where they wouldn't see me get down or hear me, ti was about 11:00. I decided to get down and check my camera and get back up to my dads to talk to my brother before he left(I heard him start his car and he had a reck Sat. morning and I wanted to check on him and share my morning with him). I got down and walked to my camera, it had 4 more pics on it since friday which got my blood pumping even more. Then I turned around and started back to my stand and out the back way and there about 45 yards is standing the 4 point, he stares at me for a second, blows, flags me and bounces back into the woods. Hopefully I didn't screw it up again but just to be sure I won't go in ther except in the evenings. I was very happy to some deer, but when I got busted by that buck all my good feelings went strait to " Oh No Not Again". But thats my luck!!!!!!! And there aint much of it "Good Luck".

Re: LOOK AT THESE TROPHIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They say that bow hunting is 90% luck. But my buddy Rooster isn't just lucky. Yes he has a good spot to hunt but he also hunts it smart. He never compromises the wind and doesn't use any kind of scent controll ecept for the cow pies he steps in and the cedar that he rubs on his clothes. He only has one stand on his place and the rest of the time he climbs trees with nothing but what god gave him. When it comes to hunting he is very good at it. He never using any doe or buck scents except that from what he kills. He is a very good guy and a die hard bow hunter. When most of us are at home at noon on sunday whatching the game before season starts, he's in a tree filming deer. He keeps a log on a calender of all his sightings before and during season. He might have a lot of luck on his side but there is alot of skill envolved also. And he thanks GOD for ever deer he sees and harvests. He is a joy to be around and has helped me in my hunting skills alot.

I'm going on a controlled hunt that a buddy of mine and I drew out for here in OK. The rut is pretty much in full swing and I was wondering if anyone would suggest using doe in rut scents? I've heard different things about using scents, good and bad. I've got a bottle of Tinks 69 that I just got for my Buckmasters membership and thought about using it this weekend. It's just a one day hunt and I don't want to ruin my chances by spooking deer with scents. Myself I use all the scent controll stuff from the soap to the clothes spray and a Scent Blocker coat and Scentlock face mask.

These are pics of a budy of mine and his living room wall. He shot all but 2 with his bow. He has one in the freezer to be mounted and one more hanging in another room. This one is my favorite. He shot his 2 biggest deer on back to back days last year between BP & gun season with his bow. I went hunting with him this last weekend and seen alot of nice deer.

HUNTING A FOOD PLOT!!! (not as easy as it sounds)
maddhunter replied to maddhunter's topic in Bowhunting
Re: HUNTING A FOOD PLOT!!! (not as easy as it sounds) Thanks for the advice guys!!!! I have a stand on a trail where 2 trails meet and lead to the plot but so far no luck. And after I was busted going to my stand on a morning hunt I've been getting there about 1 1/2 hours before light but I might have already done the damage. I stayed out for a week after that happened though. AMy trail cam took a pic of a button buck at 4:25 this morning(the last pic on the roll) and had 4 more triggerings after that. I have it set for a 10 min. delay. This morning I could here the deer in the woods and thought they were comming out on the plot but I guess they were bedded down just inside the wood line or were browsing on acorns and never came out . This was probably the morning I should have been in the trail stand. I have calmed down now and am trying to get a plan in order to score on one of the big bucks that are tearing up that scrape. I going to a friends house in the morning and give my area a rest for tomarrow. He(my friend) has already shot 2 nice bucks, one with a bow and one with a BP. He sees deer every day and he hunts every day. I am going to be patient and keep telling myself that all my hard work will pay off. It is alot different this year as far covering my two different honey holes(wel have been in the past) because my father-in-law past away in June. We always took turns setting in each spot. But now all I have is a trail cam and they have to walk in front of it for that to work. I need a hunting buddy to hunt in the other spot to pin these monsters down. In past years after BP season we would have them figured out because we could be in two places at one time, but this year it seems like the deer have me figured out instead. I am open to any suggestions anyone has. Will let you guys know if any plans pan out!!!!! THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!! -
Re: Will High Wind Effect Buck Movement During The Rut Last year we had high winds during rifle season and I didn't expect to see many deer. But I saw the same buck moving 3 different days with the wind out of the south, but when the wind was out of the north I didn't see anything. I ended up taking him on the third day. I usually don't see deer when it is that windy except for during the rut, especially bucks.

Well ya'll know how alot of people knock hunting over feeders or food plots. It's not as easy a s it sounds for alot of people(well me anyhow). I've got deer all over my plot and rubs and scrapes all around it. One scrape, that has been worked every day for the last 4 days, is half way around an oak tree by my food plot. I have pics out the wahzoo of deer. But they all must iether come through while I'm not there or just at night. I thought that when I got the clover and alfalfa rack in with my feeders I would have to chose from the masses which deer to take. It's almost half way through bow season and I haven't even scored on a doe yet. Black Powder was last week and still nothing. I'm seariously thinking about tilling that darn thing up!!!! But I think I will wait untill after season, maybe it will get better after the rut is over and everything they usually eat is gone. If I don't figure out how to hunt this gold mine or the deer don't start coming out in daylight I'm not going to go through all that hard work, time, and money next year.

Re: Question for the cold weather hunters I use a Coleman propane heaters in my buddy's blinds. They work good if they are a solid blind with air vents in them or windows to open once in a while, but a vent at the top like 2 inch pvc pipe works best to let out the fumes and not let cold air in.. They put out more of a radiant heat and will last about 4 hours on one bottle. They workreally well to warm hands and feet quickly.

Congrats on the good buck and exciting hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: shooting threw a blind Personally I don't think it will work. But I guess you will just have to try it. Although there is no way of telling if it works except by the cut it makes on the mesh. Don't think I would take the chance.

Re: holier than thou forum members You know there is a difference between taking an unethical shot and missing your mark. All the shots I have taken have been ethical in the sense I knew I would kill the deer quickly if I hit it where I was aiming. Unfortunately I haven't always hit where I was aiming. I have only lost one deer due to hitting a small limb right before the arrow hit it's mark. I don't think any of us have the right to cuss a fellow hunter just because he missed his mark. Now if he/or she porpusely takes a low percentage shot that may or may not humanely kill the animal then I say let him/or her have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: They did it to me again Sounds like a whale of a headache!!!!!! Hope you get it straightened out.

Re: Quija Board Wouldn't touch it. Never believed in that sort of krap!!!!

Re: Did I do the right thing...??? I think you were more than patient with them. Game warden or not I wouldn't have let them on the place after the first time. I have heard of a few game wardens that use thier possitoins to get access to prime hunting land that the owners wouldn't normally let anyone hunt there.

Re: Drury Outdoors You know it's nice to hear the swine termanalogy used correctly, HOG istead of PIG. I don't know where a person comes from that says "That's a PIG of a deer" Where I come from everything good is a HOGGGGG!!!!! I catch a big bass, it's a HOG, kill a big deer, it's a HOG. Pig doesn't even sound right. Where do these people come from?????????
