  1. Thanks for all of the input. I normally have a place process my deer so it is already packaged. However, if I continue to use this place, I will probably repackage the venison either with a vaccum sealing or double freezer bags then freezer paper. As it turns out, they were only using freezer paper for everything not ground. I unwrapped some of the last steaks I had and the meat was already brown on the outside. I'm guessing that is not ideal.
  2. Just curious how long venison should be kept in the freezer. Asking because I have some roast left from late 2010 season. Tried my apple cider stew recipe in the slow cooker and the meat was extremely rough. Too old? Something else?
  3. I know I have not be here in quite some time but I definitely wanted to share. Here is the 10 point buck I took on Tuesday afternoon with my TenPoint Titan crossbow at 35 yards. Super psyched!!!
  4. Happy Birthday to all Marines past and present. Thanks for your dedicated service and sacrifice. I am honored to have served. Semper Fi
  5. Very nice smokepole! I'm just about to place an order for a CVA Accura.
  6. I am about to pick up a new smokepole most likely the CVA Accura V2. Any thoughts on a thumbhole verses standard stock?
  7. I am looking to pick up a slug barrel for my Remington 870 Express for deer hunting. I plan to either get a combo with a scope or add one separately. Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I stick with Remington or go with a different brand? What length should I be considering?
  8. So, I'm finally ready to retire my old percussion cap sidelock smokepole and upgrade to a 209 primer. I will want something in 50 cal with a removeable breechplug. I have only done some quick looking at a few TCs and a Traditions Vortek. Any others I should consider or stay away from?
  9. Holy Gator Bites Batman!
  10. I almost ordered the 18:1 last night until I saw the size. It seems a bit small.
  11. Hey y'all. I know it's been awhile. Hope everyone is well. My spinal surgery back in October and the recovery went well. However, I am still having some problems with my shoulder but I'm not interested in another surgery right now. So I picked up a Ten Point Crossbow so I could hunt this year. I missed the entire season last year! Sucked big time!!! Anyway, onto my question. I'm shopping for a good archery target that will handle arrows from my bow and bolts from my xbow. I'm considering the BlockĀ® Fusion CB-16 Crossbow Target and the Rinehart 18-1 Shooting Target. Any thoughts or other suggestions?
  12. Sweet! Ordered one of the cowboy hats. Yeehaw!
  13. Just wanted to let ya'll know that I will be going in to have an anterior cervical discectomy and spinal fusion surgery next Friday, October 2nd. I had a single stage (c5-c6) done about 8 years ago but had two other disc failures above and below this previous fusion. Prayers would be appreciated.
  14. Yep, two of my hobbies are out this year. :bummed:
  15. I realize it has been a very long time since I've been on the RT forums. I have just been busy with work and our praise band so I get have much free time to check forums. Anyway, I wanted to give you all an update. Unfortunately, I will not be hunting much (if at all) this year. I will be going in for another anterior cervical discectomy (disk fusion in my neck) in early October. I had one about 8 years ago and have had to other disk failures since. I hope to be back on my feet in November but probably won't get cleared to hunt. Please keep me in your prayers. Thanks everyone.
  16. Virginia...yes but I'm in Northern Virginia.

Hey everyone. I realize it's been quite awhile. We've been crazy busy with the band, holidays, animated Christmas decorations, hunting, etc. But I'm still around. Feel free to send me a Friend Request on FaceBook -> [email protected]
  19. Just sent my request Scott.
  20. A lady was telling her neighbor that she saw a man driving a pick-up truck down the interstate, and a dog was hanging onto the tail gate for dear life! She said that if the pick-up truck driver hadn't been going so fast in the other direction, she would have tried to stop him. A few weeks later, her neighbor saw this truck at the Bass Pro Shop in Daphne, Alabama ! The pick-up truck driver is a local taxidermist with a great sense of humor! Can you imagine how many people try and stop this guy?
  21. I usually start the week after Halloween and go (off and on) until the weekend after Thanksgiving. Sequencing of the songs taking several hours each and I usually do this throughout the year. Building new elements (like my 6' star) usually happens during the summer. By the way, I had some great traffic this weekend. Must have been a result of the newspaper article.
  22. Most of my neighbors are very cool with it and actually encourage me. The guy right next to me offered to help and we even discussing doing something together. My other neighbor is a little weird (and not just about my lights) but he still enjoys them.
  23. Thanks everyone. I love doing this and love that others enjoy it so much. Backwoods - You've seen "mine" house several times? Wow! There are several others out there with even bigger and better displays. I'm glad you enjoy it.
