  1. Re: What\'s your bow range? I practice out to 40 yards, but would be hard pressed to shoot further than 30. I have done it a couple of times over the years and scored good hits, but those shots were the exception and for those few shots everything seemed to be just right. 20 yards or less is what I really like to shoot if it's possible.
  2. Re: Shooting a bedded deer I wouldn't have any problem shooting a bedded deer. Matter of fact I think being able to sneak close enough to bedded deer to get a shot with a bow would be quite an accomplishment considering how wary they are,,, even when resting.
  3. Re: Daughter got her 1st deer! congratulations to your daughter. A fine job by her, and you.
  4. Re: Shotgun for Deer questions I've been using the Federal premium 12 gauge sabot slugs in my Remington 870 slug gun and I've had great success with them.
  5. Re: What\'s your favorite call? I recently purchased the "can" and while I haven't used yet I'm looking forward to giving it a try. A couple of my friends swear by the can and they consistently take nice deer so I'm excited about trying it.
  6. Re: 10 point down!!! (PICS!) Beautiful deer, congratulations for sure.
  7. Re: Buckmaster lost her virginity lol Nice deer, congratulations.
  8. Re: First tag of the season filled. There definately are bigger ones in the woods I got this deer out of, I see them at night when I working, but so far haven't had one walk by in daylight. As for the weight of the deer I took this morning,,, I didn't weigh him and I've never been good at guesstimating weight,,, but to get him out of the woods I had to resort to leaving him in the woods and driving back home to get my game cart because I was having a really hard time trying to drag him. It was the first time I ever used my game cart since I bought it several years ago, but it sure saved my back today.
  9. Re: Thunderheads vs others I've been using 100 grain thunderhead for years and I'm very satisfied with them. I used 125 grain when I shot aluminum, but switched to 100 grain when I went to carbons. Matter of fact I bagged a nice 8 pointer this morning and the 3 blades did the job. I've always had a good blood trail and I've found that they fly the same as my field points and I personally have never had any trouble with the blades coming out. I've never used Muzzy's but from reading the posts it seems alot of people do so I guess they are effective.
  10. Due to family and work responsbilities I've only been out hunting once since the season opened Oct. 1st but today I got in the woods way before dawn for day #2 and got set up in my favorite tree. At precisely 8:12 a big bodied 8 pointer materialized, crossed a fire road and stepped in front of my stand offering me a 20 yard broadside shot. The 100 grain thunderhead struck home, and after a long hour and 30 minute track, through some of the thickest brush I've ever had to bust through, I found him and began the long haul out of the woods. The temps were in the 60's all day so I butchered him up as soon as I got him home.
  11. Re: Opening Morning I wouldn't have shot either,,, must've been neat sitting there watching that though. You don't see sights like that gun huntin.
  12. Re: OK I Got it Video of my 8pt Enjoyed that,,,, cool
  13. Re: One tag filled ,one to go congrats,,, enjoy that meat.
  14. Re: New here. Avid bowhunter. Welcome and good hunting
  15. Re: lighted reticle scope a friend of mine has a lighted reticle scope on his slug gun, thing is amazing. I don't know the manufacturer but he uses it mainly at night for a nuisance permit that we are on. I used it once or twice, simply amazing. I would imagine that it would be very useful during the first and last few minutes of daylight also. His scope actually uses a tiny round battery, like the ones in watches and such.
  16. Re: Saved a fawn pic cute little thing, very nice of you to do that.
  17. Re: Add your location to our \"Frapper Map!\" cool site for sure.
  18. Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I do the same thing colescott1 does. I take the deer home, dress it out and then take the gut pile out to a small patch of woods that I don't hunt. I use the same patch of woods to deposit the hide, head and bones to after I skin and bone out the deer. It's a little extra work and trouble, but I just don't want to take the chance of tainting my hunting areas. Whether it does in fact taint an area I really don't know, I just don't want to take the chance.
  19. Re: Friend got a 9pt (pic) Nice deer, congrats to your friend.
  20. Re: Deer Burger/Brats I also add beef or pork fat into the venison most of the time, although I personally like the pork fat better. I usually add around 15 % pork fat to the ground venison and it comes out great.
  21. I don't have any "home recipes" but just made a bunch of sausage using a kit from "Eastman" that I purchased at Walmart. Came out great. I've also used kits from http://www.sausagemaker.com/ and they have worked very well also. Congratulations on your buck.
  22. Re: BIGFOOT I have no problem believing that there is some sort of undiscovered creature that exists in certain regions. From time to time scientists find specimens of a species that they had previously thought to be extinct. What makes this any different? I personally would not want to run into one, gun in hand or not, but I can at least entertain the idea that they are out there.
  23. Re: TICKS??????? Where I live and hunt the tick problem is out of control, has been for years. As a result anyone who hunts here goes to great lengths to practice tick control. The "permanone" that Rhinodog mentioned does in fact work well. Another thing that can prevent them from crawling up your leg onto your body is to buy 2 name brand flea collars that they sell for dogs and put on one each leg (tighten it over your hunting socks). I know it sounds funny but it really works well. There is one more trick that works exceptionally but it sounds even "weirder" than the flea collars bit, but it will work,,,,,, ticks cannot get through the very fine mesh of womens pantyhose,,,,,, if you get a larger size pair of pantyhose and put them on then even if a tick does get past your other defenses it will not be able to get through the panty hose and attach itself to your skin. I know it sound funny, or weird, but I swear it works and I have no problem with my friends laughing at me if it means I'm tick free and even more importantly lymes disease free !!
  24. Re: These pictures Tell The story Better!! very nice. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words.
  25. Re: Just made some sounds great. I might make a pot of chili tomorrow after reading about yours.
