  1. That has been the same here in Northern Indiana as well. Alot of good bucks taked last of Oct and first week of November, then its like they shut down... Not much visible rutting activity going on, see few deer in fields..Hmmmm, interesting that youre having the same.
  2. I REALLY dont like shooting deer right on the verge of dark, just too many things to go wrong...so if I feel that nothing is gonna happen, Ill leave a little before the final light is faded. But... if there are deer around me, Ill wait for them to move on before I get down. Once I was in stand for nearly an hour because I didnt want to educate the buck that was nearby. Really not a good thing to be 20 plus ft up a tree in pitch black though.
  3. Not been too bad. Did my time in the traditional world, now I'm back!! Been alot of good bucks taken early, firearm been kinda slow round here. Waitin on my head to get a score on my archery buck..my best yet. Gimmie a ring if youre out this way, we can do coffee or somethin. You got my #?
  4. Yeah..No way to tell you which one to get. Just make sure wherever you go theyre a reputable pro shop. I'd stay away from the big megastores, they just want the sale and many of their staff aren't experienced bow technicians.
  5. Yeah...43 yards is a far shot to make when you've been drawn for some time. At least he's not wounded, and hopefully not spooked too bad. Hang in there, you might get another chance at him.
  6. That buck has character now...Great Job!!
  7. Nice buck! Congrats! Starke County buck?
  8. Awesome deer! Nice height, dark horns too...

  11. ]Its been a while since I've been on here...my sign in name is still magnetec..steve LOL!!! After a stint in the traditional archery world, and another frustrating wounded deer, I decided to make trad archery a fun summertime hobby and leave the real hunting to the compound. We owe it to the animals to have the best odds of a quick kill when we release an arrow...so at least for me, its the compound. Kudos to those who have mastered the traditional bows, I envy you! Anyhoo.. heres my buck shot Oct 29th. I got in my trusty permanent big oak stand...which I had been meaning on replacing the ladder hence barely made it up that morning without breaking the steps. It was a while before it got light, I heard a deer close hitting the branches and got a glimpse of the outline once but it was still dark. The deer made its way to the tall CRP. After it finally got light, I did my re-assurance checks with the rangefinder...hit the grunt call a few times followed by a 20 second rallte bag sequence. Almost immediately I hear noise to my left in the CRP. Then I see him, a good shooter buck, coming in quick. He stopps about 50 yds in the CRP lip curling and looking for the source of the commotion. I have had deer come in to this spot before but hang up without seeing deer, and I was afraid that he might do the same... so I give him a snort-wheeze. That did the track!! Ears layed down, coming in stiff legged.. he circled out to try getting down wind. He came out to the community licking branch that happens to be 35 yards in front of my stand!! I am at full draw, but I let him put on a show for a few seconds as he hit the branch, pawed the dirt and I released as he was pissin on his newly turned scrape...Perfect heart shot!! He was trippin up as soon as he took off, only heard hm run for like 4 or 5 seconds. He made it 50 yards after the shot. Live weight 250 pounds....waiting on my mount to get a better score, but my rough score put him in low 140's.
  12. Scott Little Goose for compound.....glove for longbow!!

    question

Yeah, have the bow checked out. Could just be that something like your rest or sights came loose, the string may have stretched, your cable slide may be sticking....could be alot of things but a good shop should be able to get it shooting good again.
  14. Been thinkin' bout doin that my self since I got a knew house I dont have my closit that I used to have to keep all my stuff in. All of my stuff is skatturd a round the place. LOL!! Just kidding with the grammar!!
  15. I'm DONE with the cheaper 3-D targets..they just simply do not last. I shoot ALOT, but still, the McKenzies at the local 3-D range are several years old and still look great. I have just about shot up my Delta in less than a year. Next time it is McKenzie.
  16. There is a good chance this guy is pulling your leg, but it isn't all together unbeleivable either. There aren't a whole lot of bows that go up that high in poundage. You said he just got it and only shot it a few times right? You know during the Mideval days the Kings archers were drawing back 90# up to 120# longbows, so this guy MIGHT be able to draw back 90# a few times...
  17. I couldn't resist it. Last night I just had to sling some arrows from my compuond again. I've been shooting exclusively traditional for quite some time now. It was a BLAST! I started off at 40, then 50 yards. Then I just kept dropping back and using the tree behind the target to sight on. I ended up back at 67 yards and was aiming on a knot on an oak tree behind the target and about 6 feet high !! LOL It was crazy after shooting my longbow for so long how rock solid I could hold my 80% let-off, and I should have taken pictures cause my groups were sweet even at that range. October is all traditional for me this year, but buddy look out after November, it's rack hunting time, and my confidence is higher than ever!
  18. longbow pics Here's some pics of my newest longbow.http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/magnatecsteve/?action=view&current=longbow.jpg
  19. Ill try to get some pics of my bows on here soon. Gonna do some more shooting today and flip through my recent Traditional Bowhunter mag. Tomorrow is "ground blind building day"!
  20. No problemo too pointer. I check in here every once in a while to see if anyone has any questions on "old school" muzzleloaders, I know quite a bit on them and alot of tricks for hunting with them. Been shooting flintlocks for over 19 years and my Dad builds them.
