  1. Re: mule deer hunting iron buck: Nice photo.......unit 54?
  2. Re: mule deer hunting Are you planning on this year or next? The reason why I'm asking, is many states drawing systems are completed and only a few offer over-the-counter options. Which state were you wanting to hunt in? More information is needed, as they're LOTS of reputable outfitters to choose from.
  3. Re: Memorial Day Weekend Elk Country BeanMan: Man, I sure miss that country......always thought it was some of the prettiest in your state. Have to admit though, that bacon look pretty good too!
  4. Re: elk huntin My best three archery bulls are all from Arizona: 6x6 - 340" 6x7 - 335" 6x6 - 310"
  5. Re: Broadhead Recommendations Wac'em broadheads......a leading edge 3-bladed head that is VERY accurate and scary sharp. www.wacemarchery.com
  6. Re: Hunting trips Well, hopefully I'll be hunting Tule Elk in CA the first week of August. But so far I'll be bowhunting Monster Mule Deer in Colorado for sure the end of August through the first week of September. I'll come back for a week or so and either hunt elk in Arizona ( ) or Columbia Blacktail in CA. I'll hunt CA deer until mid-November. After that, I'll be heading to the Arizona desert to hunt rut crazed desert mule deer the first week of January. Between all these huts, I'll chase a few wild hogs as well. A fun year for sure.
  7. Re: How often do you shoot with your broadheads? I shoot my broadheads year round, especially when I do my daily shooting sessions. Yup, it wears out targets quicker than field points....but I KNOW exactly where they'll hit at the moment of truth. I also shoot a few broadhead 3D tournaments around the state. Makes it fun.
  8. Re: My first \"bow turkey kill\" video clip. Sweeeet video......congratulations and thanks for sharing.
  9. Re: Crossbow Facts ** LifeNRA: [ QUOTE ] Hey, IamAffraidOfGunsGuy! [/ QUOTE ] Now , that's funny.....especially since I wear one for a living. I'll tell you what, next years P&Y banquet is going to be held in YOUR state. I'll pay your entrance fee and buy you a refreshment.....on me! After seeing the banquet you might have at least an understanding of why some of us feel the way we do. What do you say? Let me lead away from the dark side! (j/k)
  10. Re: Crossbow Facts ** [ QUOTE ] have no real feel for the rest of the hunters nation-wide Which makes him an elitist the more and more I read about him! [/ QUOTE ] LifeRifleguy: If you're going to quote me, please make sure it was I who posted it. Another member posted this particular one. I realize you have trouble grasping what you are reading at times, but accuracy is needed. I'm glad you're no longer ignoring me. Why, the thought of you not liking me.....I just don't know if I could bare it.
  11. Re: Crossbow Facts ** Buckee: I'm not at all anti-crossbow.....I sure hope you do not feel that I am. In fact, I think they are a valuable tool to hunt with for sportsmen. I simply do not agree they should be classified as a bow and arrow because of the reasons I have already explained. Therefore, It's my opinion they should not be a part of the bow only season. It's really that simple. Nothing personal at all. Yes, I'm a long time P&Y member and official measurer. However, I am making this decision based on years of my own bowhunting upbringing. Remember, my father built bows in the early years and I was brought up with many of those values and beliefs. I simply beleive there needs to be a line drawn and that's where "I" personally draw it. This definition is not only P&Y's and mine but also MANY other states in this great country. Yes, I'm definately more of a selective hunter these days. I really don't mind going home empty handed. However, I do go home with "trophys" in my eyes and not the Clubs. I do beleive in the what the P&Y Club strives for, however, I'm not speaking on their behalf. As a supporting member, I do not always agree with everything we do as a Club either (like any club). However, they do a lot for bowhunters and sportsmen nationwide, IMO. Thanks for the respectful response, I truly appreciate it. This type of topic can get heated at times, as many hear have labeld me and directed harsh PM's. I hope they can realize that not everyone is going to agree with their views at times. Good luck this season Buckee and post those photos up!
  12. Re: Crossbow Facts ** Yaaaaaawwwwnnnn! You just proved my point. Have a good season.
  13. Re: Crossbow Facts ** [ QUOTE ] Oh thats great!!! You want crossbow hunters to go out into the woods with their crossbow while the majority is using FIREARMS?!?!?!?! I can see this happening, a Xbow shoots a deer and then a rifle hunter drops it! Just another reason to use the Xbow during the regular bow season! Remind me never to hunt in California!!! [/ QUOTE ] LifeNRA: Actually, I hunt with my bow and arrow during the general firearms season many times as well with no issues. So, your example is weak, IMO. I will say this, based on your statements and continual labeling your screen name is very fitting. You ARE sir, a rifle hunter wanting to infringe YOUR methods into an already established bow only season. Just my opinion.
  14. Re: Crossbow Facts ** john: Please don't confuse my intent here. I've never tried to convince you of anything....sorry you felt that way. I simply gave my opinion on the issue and tried to explain why "I" feel the way I do. I respect your opinion.....and I won't label YOU. It's been a good debate guys....It's refreshing to see people pasionate about the sport, no matter what their weapon choice or season they are allowed to hunt in. Good luck this season.
  15. Re: Crossbow Facts ** johnf: If it's legal there, have fun and enjoy yourself! Doesn't mean I have to agree with it though. Vtbowhunter: Yes sir, I am against the draw-lock in bow-only seasons. I noticed you used the term "primitive weapon". I agree with that term as it pertains to the crossbow (for you john ) . As a result, I support them in a primitive (flintlock, muzzeloader, pistol, etc.) season. Just not bow-only seasons.
  16. Re: Crossbow Facts ** Just so you boys don't feel this is a West coast mentality thing, I attached a link that you might find interesting. Here's some more facts johnf. www.newyorkbowhunters.com/New_Folder/xbow.htm
  17. Re: Crossbow Facts ** Buckee: Touche'.....
  18. Re: Crossbow Facts ** Obviously the 150lb crossbow....start practicing with it and get ready for the primitive and/or general season.
  19. Re: Crossbow Facts ** johnf: Again, I will re-post the issues and points I've already mentioned so maybe you can better understand. Note I said understand and not agree. I respect your opinion, and I won't resort to labeling you, as you have done me. The reason why I choose to refer to the weapon as a crossgun rather than crossbow, is in my opinion, it resembles and operates more like a gun than a true bow. Substance?? Okay, I'll give provide that with a simple question to you. Do you deny the crossbow (again for you) is sometimes scoped, always shouldered and fired exactly like a rifle, locked back, and never drawn by the shooter? If not, these are EXACTLY the reasons why I do not support them in bow seasons. I DO, however, support their use in other more appropriate seasons (primitive, firearm, etc.) Lastly, I respect and support any and all hunters....no matter what their choice of weapon is. I simply lobby (I currently sit on the state board) for bowhunters and do not support crossguns in bow seasons. I do support them being legal in other seasons.
  20. Re: Crossbow Facts ** johnf: So now I'm an elitest? Wow, I guess the Realtight site hasn't changed much. Better not have a different view....or else! Again, since all you do is read what you WANT to read, I'll address your question...again. Just because the crossgun is less efficient in my hands (and many others), doesn't make it eligible for bow only season. It's not a bow. Have you ever tried shooting a flintlock or throw a hunting spear? Not very efficient either, IMO. Should we add them to the bow season as well? Of course not, becasue they are not bows.....and either is a crossbow (just for you ), IMO.
  21. Re: Crossbow Facts ** [ QUOTE ] You seem to have a strong opinion bassed on your feelings and no real evidence. I have shot compound and crossbow. Have you? [/ QUOTE ] johnf: Obviously you missed that in my last post, but I'm glad to repeat it for you. Yes, I have shot both for recreation. However, there is a HUGE difference between a crossgun (aka: crossbow) and a compound bow, IMO. The crossgun is designed so you don't have to draw it back or hold any weight at full draw. It's locked in, sometimes scoped (just like a gun) and shouldered in the exact manner as a gun. Do I think it's more efficient than a compound bow? Not in my hands..... I found a compound to be much more efficient than the crossgun in terms of accuracy at longer ranges (out to 40 yards). However, we don't allow weapons in our bow season because they are less efficient (flintlocks, spears, etc.). We allow handheld bows ......again, JMO.
  22. Re: Crossbow Facts ** [ QUOTE ] JMO is fine! But when the time comes when you can no longer pull that bow back, and you still want to hunt! What are you going to do??? You have that option! Or, are you just gonna sit it out and complain that you wish you can bow hunt again! [/ QUOTE ] LifeNRA: The day I can no longer pull a bow and arrow, I will learn how to bowhunt with a mouth tab. You see, I've never hunted with a firearm or crossgun. I've shot them before for recreation, but I was brought into the hunting community over 40 years ago by a father who built bows in the 60's, so archery is all I know. However, if all I could do was hunt with a crossgun, I'd expect to do it during a primitive or regular season, as it is NOT archery, IMO. Just so folks are clear on my view, I'm not at all opposed to crossbows or they being a legal means of hunting game animals in our states. I'm simply taking a stance (as is P&Y) and drawing a line on what I feel should be allowed in archery seasons. I hope those who hunt with them don't feel I am against them.....I'm not. Just not in the archery season is all.
  23. Re: Crossbow Facts ** I think there's definately a place for crossbows.......in the firearm season! JMO

    Hoyt Protec

Re: Hoyt Protec Tom: I hunt with the ProTec and think it's one of the most forgiving and quietest bow I've shot. Pretty good speed out of it as well.
  25. Re: How many Deer have you taken?? I've been lucky enough to have arrowed over 100 deer......they're my favorite animal to bowhunt.
