I accidentally watched the Jackie Bushman Show once. They had a contest to see who could put on a safety harness the quickest, and a couple of other stunts that were pretty dumb. It won't happen again.(That is, watching that show) I'd hate to see any of our Realtree regulars making such a fool out of themselves as hosting a show like that. ....popgun

I carried the mail for almost 35 years and retired at age 55. I made a few mistakes and a few sound investments and I am comfortable. I am independently wealthy by redneck standards. I get up each morning and dust off my wits, pick up the paper and read the obits. If my name isn't listed I know I'm not dead, So I'll eat a good breakfast and go back to bed. (Not really, but I guess I could if I wanted to.) ....popgun

Welcome to the realtree forums, best place to nest on the Internet. I think that Bill, Mike, and David hunt with whatever their sponsors want seen on TV. If they ever got a chance to hunt off camera there is no telling what they would choose. ....popgun

Sorry to hear that, I guess I wasn't aware that you were married. ....popgun

I'd put it this way. The .357 is fine if that is all you have, but the .44 mag is great. after experiencing what my .44 mags will do, I would never look back to the .357. ....popgun

My first bow was a 50 lb.Ben Pearson fiberglass recurve, (marked Blemished on it) I still have a few wooden arrows too. My first Compound was a Bear (Black Bear). I still have them both but am rarely able to shoot them. I usually shoot my Browning Crossbow. ....popgun

I visited the Home page quite often back in the old days when we had the icon contest, but since the page was changed I hardly go there anymore. I understand that 'the powers that be' want it to be colorful, eye catching, interesting and informative, but boy howdy is it cluttered. It takes so long for it to load I don't want to even wait to answer the poll question anymore. I have a fairly high speed DSL system and still wait for about two full minutes or more for everything to show up. The coyote hunt video is worth the wait though. ....popgun

It really happens rather frequently here in Arkansas, usually with the late bowhunters. All of our other seasons are pretty much closed in Dec. but our archery season runs all the way through the last of Feb. If you figure a doe is bred early in Oct. the fetus is already along 151 days by the end of Feb. I think the gestation rate is 200 days, so sometimes the fetus is almost fawn looking by the time the doe is taken. Our rut here is around the middle of Nov. so most does aren't quite that far along. I think that around here if a person needs to thin the herd, a late mature doe is the way to do it, but if meat is all that is needed, it would be better to take a young doe that hasn't been bred. I think with that being said, most hunters around here probably just don't check while field dressing, or they would rather just not know. ....popgun

Don't look for a serial number as such. Look for letters such as :GPAJ Sorry to say these were not expensive guns back in the day, and still aren't. My book says about $110. to $150. You still have one of your Grandpa's treasures, so take good care of it. And welcome to the realtree forums,(the greatest place on the World Wide Web) ....popgun

You'd better check again Steve. You are protected (up to a million bucks). If you have that much in your bank account, you are really doing well. They won't give you a million bucks to recover a few thousand. ....popgun

I thought this issue was resolved last year when this thread was started. Why dig up a year old thread and get everyone upset about something that is over, finished, done? I think the ordinance was repealed sometime during 2007. ....popgun

That wasn't much of a test. I scored 12000. Do the questions get harder if you take it several times? ....popgun

I think she may have over-reacted to your comment, but it may be too early to label her as an anti-hunter. She may not be aware that legal drinking age in the United States is 21. Do you really think it is fair to call her out in the middle of the night, when she can't respond until she wakes up in the morning? When she responds, you will be fast asleep and not be able to reply either. I personally think you should have kept this to pm's, and not in the open forum. I could be wrong...I remember being wrong at least once before. ....popgun I guess she is still awake afterall, and replied while I was typing.

http://www.whitesharktrust.org/pages/mediaarticle/media26.html Strange that these photos have been around since published Dec. 2005, and just now making news Jan. 3 2008. The above link shows a different photo in the same series. ....popgun

I think the R.I.A stands for Rock Island Arsenal, and the number is just a storage indication number. I could be wrong. ....popgun

Hold on to it for awhile and it will still increase in value. There is one just like it, but in terrible shape for $70. at: http://www.militaryitems.com/shop/home.php?cat=274 Keep in a dry place and it will be fine for another 100 years. ....popgun

I can only tell you what I would do if I were in your shoes. I'd be back out there tomorrow morning, with a friend or the family dog, and give the place a good second look around. I have done the same thing especially with my handgun, and both times I found the deer. I had underestimated my ability, and had taken for granted that I had missed. I sure wasn't sorry for going back for a fresh look at the area. You may have hit a little high, and all it needed was a little more time to start bleeding out. ....popgun

I think this is one of those trick questions. It does not state that the backpacks with all the cats are actually on the bus. Therefore; I say only 14 legs unless there is a driver, in which case there would be 16. Don't show any pictures of your legs. This is a family forum. ....popgun

Just finished reading all the replies in Andrea's post, (Christmas Survey). One thing that really stands out is that almost everyone hates fruit cake. My wife makes at least one every year and I love them. There are some that we have purchased at the store that aren't very good but still edible. Not all fruit cakes have to be re-gifted to folks on your gift list that you don't really like. Not all fruit cakes work double time as a door stop. In case of a nuclear war, not all fruit cakes will survive. Not all fruit cakes make good raccoon or coyote bait. And finally for the OTPG members; a person does not have to dunk fruit cake in cocoa to make it edible. A good fruit cake does not make a very good target for one of your magnum rifles because the texture is much different than ballistics jell. I am hereby volunteering to judge fruit cakes. If you receive a fruit cake that you do not want, you can send me a pm and I will furnish you with my address. Only unopened or uncut fruit cakes will be judged. (because I do not want to eat one that you first tried to feed to the dog; after all, if your dog won't eat it, why should I?) No fruit cakes will be judged from annonymous donors. Homemade fruit cakes do not get extra points. Now...If no one sends me a fruit cake, I will know that some of you lied on Andrea's survey and are actually closet fruit cake eaters. ....popgun

Shaun I'm glad to hear you are going to get an insurance reduction, but wow!!! If my rates were $2174. per year I would drive a rattle trap and carry liability only, or walk. I have a home (at replacement cost), two cars, pickup truck and my mule with State Farm, and my total for everything is $1882. per year. Maybe there are advantages to getting old ....popgun

Scottishhunter, you probably are better off where you are, and in the long run, so are we. It is easy to Google crime statistics and see that you are three times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime in Scotland than here in the United States of America. By the way, in two of the three incidences in America that you mentioned, long guns (or rifles), were used and not handguns. Another thing I might mention is that "all news" is open here in America for the press to dispense all over the world. The news does not have to have our government's approval before it can be released to the world. Naturally the news that sells is the "Sensational", and not the everyday good hearted American doing what Americans do best. Everyone knows that that would just be boring. Do you have any public land to hunt on in Scotland, or is it all just pay your money, and shoot a few farm raised birds, bunnies, or red stag? ....popgun

I kinda enjoy seeing Obama and Hillery fight it out. If they keep it up maybe they will convince the undecided voters that neither one is worth voting for. It sort of reminds me of the childs poem: There Once Were Two Cats Of Kilkenny There once were two cats of Kilkenny, Each thought there was one cat too many; So they fought and they fit, And they scratched And they bit, Till excepting their nails And the tips of their tails Instead of two cats There weren't any. All one has to do is change the word cats to Democats, and maybe Mike Huckabee will come in and lick the bowl clean on election day. ....popgun

Why we fold the flag 13 times... Have you ever noticed how the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the American flag 13 times? Here's what each of those 13 folds mean: The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life. The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life. The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance. The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our Country”, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country right or wrong. The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day. The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded. The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for defense of our country since they were first born. The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews’ eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians’ eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.” After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today. ....popgun

Although I don't regard it as useless or strange; I know that a properly folded American Flag is folded 13 times, and I also know what each fold means. I also know that one of the replies on this thread should be deleted. Then again.... maybe my age is showing. I just don't think anything should be posted if you think your 11 year old grandson may think it is funny and repeat it in his Sunday School class, while not even knowing what he is saying. ....popgun
