  1. Ya, really liked it. Apparently it was set to be a major release but the director(i think) went power crazy and it lost it's backing and came out as basically an independant film that got no publicity. A real shame because it is a good movie.
  2. Re: Guns for Christmas no, i think i was too ambitious in the price range i asked for lol. Guess i will have to go buy it myself.

    teasing me!

Re: teasing me! We currently have 9 deer coming to our bird feeder in town. 3 does, 2 fawns, a fork horn that has shed one side 2 weeks ago, a young 7 by 4, a 14 class 8 with forked brows and a forked G2, and a really nice 150's 10 point. No hunting allowed near town, but lots of good shed hunting in spring. I have a shed off the 8 with the forked brows from last year and i bet he has put on close to 30 inces.
  4. Re: Perfect Racks!!! I am guessing a deer of any size at all with 0 deductions is probably more rare than a boone and crockett typical.
  5. Re: WINNIPEG BOUND Geez, i feel sorry for you. lol Not a big fan of winnipeg. Have fun though!
  6. Re: Dont eat the fish in Neb. [ QUOTE ] I wonder if the bottom mouth was fuctional or not. [/ QUOTE ] The article says it was not.
  7. Re: poor bugger!!! It is sad to see any animal suffer that way. Mange is making its rounds with the wolves and foxes here again. I saw a fox on the road two weeks ago with no hair on its tail, and some big bald patches on its body. I stopped and followed it in the trees with my 7mm to shoot it and it just stared at me with a "please kill me look". For whatever reason it took off before i got loaded. I am sure it has frozen to death by now. Tough way to go.
  8. Re: Hunting in Germany Nice pics, and nice dogs! Is that a racoon? I am guessing someone introduced them over there?(someone not too bright) lol
  9. Re: Official Boston Bruins thread Why does Ottawa suddenly not know how to play for the last 10 or so games? We need to play toronto more to get those win numbers back up.
  10. Re: Different Types of whitetails?? Yup, they nailed it. The colder the climate the bigger the deer in the area. Big deer have a lower surface area to volume ratio meaning it loses less heat. Similarly in the hot south a big deer would overheat, while the small deer that evolved there have a higher surface area to volume ratio meaning they can cool much more easily. Much the same thing that occurs with shiras moose in the south being much smaller bodied than Alaska Yukon moose in the north.
  11. Re: A couple of neat bucks Both nice young deer. I suspect in about 4 more years the first one will be a real heart stopper of a nontypical.
  12. Re: Help. Where to buy gun? Thanks a bunch Jay T!!! Exactly what i needed, got a good selection, and looks to be a bit cheaper too!
  13. Re: Which pose to use for my elk? Personally i like something that has the head down (like a sneak pose for a deer)to really show it off, with a slight turn. I would go to the taxidermist and look at pictures of elk he has done and see what you like and what will showcase that bulls features.

    New Job

Well i went for a job interview even farther north yesterday and got offered the job on the spot. It is working security at a gold mine, and while not a career, it pays really well and will give me some good experience in the interim. The hilarious part is that i Start the second week in January, and have an interview with the provincial Police January third lol. That is the career I want. I sort of feel guilty that i took the job and will be interviewing for a new job before i even start lol. The only bad part is that moving up there will probably result in the destruction of my new truck. Last night driving back here I saw 13 moose on a 65 kilometer stretch of highway, and had two close calls...one i have no idea how i missed it. Good thing i was driving under the speed limit due to all the animals on the road. Any faster and i may have set a record for writing off a vehicle in a short time.
  15. Re: Deer warts wow that is gross!! I would have shot it and called a warden to brin a biologist. No way i would touch that till i knew what it was!
  16. Official Hockey Thread Just face it...Boston is generally really really bad this year and they need more than a change in one player for that to change.
  17. Re: Home page story about Bill Jordan\'s Hunt? MCH has an excellent point. Bill had the integrity to make clear he had both. Like MCH said, how many time have other pro's done this and hidden the fact?
  18. Re: Hotdogs for ice pike I have used hotdogs as bait in summer when i ran out of other baits and gaught a few pike and walleye. I have not heard of them for winter pike, though a pike will eat anything it can fit in its mouth if it is hungry. I am sceptical about them working better than minnows, or jigging lures.
  19. Re: trailcam bucks That is cool you caught a flying squirrel in action! We have one at our hunt camp i got pictures of this year sitting, but never gliding.
  20. Re: possible new world record shot in iowa [ QUOTE ] I think this is the world record for made up world record stories. [/ QUOTE ] You know i was actually thinking this yeart was slower than normal for world record false alarms. (which with the number there has beenis pretty sad)
  21. Re: Home page story about Bill Jordan\'s Hunt? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I bowhunt for the challenge. [/ QUOTE ] But, the challenge also includes not getting that monster buck that is 60 yards away and will not come in any further. That's bow hunting!!!! So, why not just bring a gun? [/ QUOTE ] Yes it does. But if it was legal it could also include having that rifle to take that deer that you just can't get i range, be it doe for meat, or big buck. I don't know for sure i would if i could, but i certainly would consider it. Moreover, i rifle hunt for the challenge. Yes rifle hunting IMO has its own set of challenges. Bottom line, would you criticize him if he only took the rifle and did not even attempt to take one with the bow? I doubt it.
  22. Re: Home page story about Bill Jordan\'s Hunt? Ditto, if it was legal go for it! I bowhunt for the challenge, but also rifle hunt once rifle season opens. If it was legal i would consider doing the same thing. There have been times i have wished i could have a gun for a deer that would not give me a bow shot.
  23. Re: I am changing.... It is amazing how quickly i grew out of the "it's brown it's down stage" I guess hunting with a bunch of retired guys who are really picky helped. The first year i shot the first buck a saw(14 inch spike one side, fork the other). The next years i said teh first buck i saw bigger than that and i shot a 5 pt, 6 pt, and two 8 points in the next 4 years(all the first or second day i hunted) Then i missed 4 seasons totally while in college. This year it was a wallhanger or nothing. That was easier now since we can get 2 doe tags and one buck. (used to be one deer, either sex). So i shot a fawn with the muzzleloader(i thought it was the doe lol), shot an 8 point for one of teh other guys who had to take off early and needed meat(party hunting is legal), and then passed up about 20 bucks from spikes to 120 class deer looking for mr big. Had close encounters with 4 deer in the 140 to 160 range(one as close as 7 yards) but due to absolutely terrible luck didn't get a shot. With the season winding down i had a shot at a 115 inch 8, but despite the end of season coming I didn't want to shoot a deer with such potential for the next few years. I ended up with a close throat shot on a similar deer the last weekend, but talked myself out of shooting half looking for a better shot, half jsut not wanting to shoot that deer. I ended up with two for the year(couldn't get a shot at a single do the last 2 weeks to save my life) and no mr. big. You know what, i am disappointed, but i saw some huge deer...could have almost stabbed the biggest lol, and saw more bucks that the other years combined by not shooting the first one i could. Now let's hope giving free passes to all those young deer pays off with a wallhanger next year. lol
  24. Re: possible new world record shot in iowa [ QUOTE ] World Record stays in Saskatchewan for another year, wanna bet??? [/ QUOTE ]Safe bet. TOo late in the year now. A new record would be making legit headlines by now. I still stand by my statement that a new record will be taken before the end of the 2007 season. Where from i don't really wanna guess, there are too many likely places.
  25. Re: I am changing.... [ QUOTE ] It is only a matter of years before I become the guy that goes just to enjoy nature but deep down doesn't even want to kill one. [/ QUOTE ] When that happens can i come hunt your spot for a week some year? You can admire and photograph the huge deer that will undoubtedly walk by, and i can get my first monster buck. lol
