  1. Well as it turns out, the filming crew will be extending activity into the first weekend of bow season. I figure on hunting the morning anyway if the wind is right. Sunday we did a scene in muddy, standing water in the trenches where lots of guys (myself included) get shot. Naturally I took time to build dykes and keep the water out of MY spot! It was the only spot in the trench that was water-free. One guy goes down face first in a large puddle!
  2. Changing winds can be a real challenge. Do you ever use the "hour-by-hour" link at weather.com? I've found that service to be fairly reliable. Actually, I plan my hunting around it.
  3. Thanks for sharing your story Todd. All this early season success is getting me pumped for the opener here in two weeks. Think I'll watch some video today after the work is done.
  4. 2 Boss SST for deer, and 1 on a "backup arrow" for squirrel.
  5. Nice cam pics MCH, but how come your camera reads "2010"?
  6. Well as it turns out, both my son and I got to be "extras" in the film being shot at my hunting spot. Sammy "got shot" in the foot while I bring in a stretcher for another guy that gets shot. We filmed for 5 1/2 hours for a sceen that lasts about 2 minutes. Here is a pic of "GI Bucknrut".
  7. Hey MCH, I'm happy for you - best of luck. Just remember, it's all about the best 20 yards! Got my treestands up last weekend. 2 stands in the same (highly productive) spots and one in a new location that should produce based on last year's observation and this year's scouting. A group of students from a nearby college are making a movie in my hunting area. It's a war scene with trenches, barbed wire and the like. They let me watch them film a scene where a soldier gets shot... Anyway, the crew will be gone by the time bow season opens. Really nice folks btw. My biggest challenge will be getting to my area - I have to buy a car SOON! Hoping to pick up a winter beater.
  8. Hey Joe, How did you make out with your "preseason" doe hunt?
  9. I take classes online year-round, so it's all the same to me.
  10. No better way to get the contest started than a little smack talk! Maybe we should have an official thread? Prizes?... You get to brag and put "contest winner" in your signature.
  11. Hey everyone, it's good to be back! I believe our team will be very competitive this year. I'm always good for doe, and last year I missed a buck of a lifetime here in upstate NY. 4 NY hunters on this team - reminds me of the Smackdown-in-the-Daks at NYBuck's place. Tagged Out works for me. Good luck with your nuisance hunt Joe - should be more like "deer shooting" than hunting.
  12. Foolish IMO. The bible is very clear - nobody knows when Christ will return. But a little stash does not hurt regardless.
  13. New this year in NY - Crossbows are now legal (in the gun season)... Well, it's a start.
  14. I use a late model setup like High Country. A few years back I switched to Boss SST from Wasp (100 gr, 4-blade). I have always had easy trails to follow, and with one exception the deer droped within 50 yds on all my vital hits.

11% is the rate the DOW grew last year - not that amazing when you think about it. Mutual Funds are often setup to mirror indexes. I only invest what I can afford to lose, so right now I'm not active in the market.
  16. Canuck2 sent me some of his homemade venison jerky, and a scissors/knife sharpener - already used both.
  17. If you go to any of the major arrow makers' websites you will find updated spine charts. Just key in your personal data and the site will come back with the suggested arrow spine.
  18. Missed a shot at a doe on the last day of shotgun season. Will try again (late archery) in the snow if the wind is right. Usually see anywhere from 10 - 30 deer in this one field - but the wind must be right. I get an easy 5 - 15 yd shot at this stand if they come through at all... Art
  19. That didn't come out the way WYohunter meant it! I confer, Randy always comes up with nice exchange gifts.
  20. I was thinking you meant tree stand tree...:jaw:
  21. If Crosby gets another goal in OT I'm going to just scream!
  22. Didn't he play QB for the Cowboys too?
  23. Those are some nice deer Centralsaskhunter! Saw 26 deer on the gun opener. Everyone was hauling the mail. Missed an 8pt at 12 yds around 9 am, then a super huge "buck of a lifetime" who was chasing a hot doe - around 2 pm. After all the tresspassers finsihed their drives and things settled down, I had two antlerless deer get bumped out of their beds. One decided to speed through a clearing I made a couple of years ago - right in line with my stand. Made the running shot and she crashed in the clearing about 15 yds from my stand! Made lots of Italian sausage - mmmmmm! That makes 4 deer this year. Waiting for this storm system to pass and will go out again Sunday (church on Saturday evening).
  24. I've got some bucks patterend for the opener of gun season on Saturday. The sweet corn is still up and won't be harvested for at least 10 days with this rain. Anyway, these bucks are coming down a cut strip in the corn to bed in the woods. Seeing lots of does and fawns too. Moved my stand a few yards to take advantage of the situation. Weather will be ideal - low 30's to mid 40's and partly cloudy - no rain!
