  1. Steve's one of the greatest guys I ever shared an elk camp twice with. You'll do well I'm sure. Good luck to you all.
  2. x2. Clayton is a nice area (to me). Didja go by the Whittington Center?
  3. Can we get this post pinned so it stays on top?
  4. Steve and Rilda are an amazing couple. We are very sorry to hear of her illness and will pray for her.
  5. Thanks. The name pays respect to the first two Realtree hunts we went to in Taylor Park and Cement Creek with Steve Beilgard and MANY others from this forum, and hopefully we will all tag out while wearing our Realtree camos.
  6. I'm finding out that putting together a hunt for 6 people to hunt together in two diff seasons in two diff units isnt as easy as I thought it would be. We are gonna call it 'Camp Realtree" cause my sign is still on the camper from 07.
  7. We are very fortunate to have drawn leftover buck muley tags for u34 2nd rifle in the Flat Tops. Five of us put in as a group and we all drew. My wife suggested 2nd rifle deer and 3rd rifle otc bull elk so thats what we are doing. We'll do bull elk in u81 or she'll skin me, as she'd got a real hot spot on a mtn there. Good luck to all my Realtree realfriends and forum friends.
  8. Thats quite a tag you drew. COngrats. It's a great area.
  9. Yes you can do a DIY hunt pretty cheap. I think a non res bull tag is 594 and cow is 294 or something near them prices. COlorado DOW site has all the info. Heres a link: Hunting Home - Colorado Division of Wildlife
  10. COngrats on your tag. I dont think my "group" drew a darn thing by the looks of the point list. Have a great hunt.
  11. Colorado coyoes need killin : State wildlife officials urge locals to harass coyotes | Aspen Daily News Online let's go hunt...
  12. Good luck to you and Jacob. Let us know how you make out. If you get to COlo look me up.
  13. We didnt draw buck mulies or pronghorn. So I guess we'll do leftover whatever off the lists. Or not.
  14. COngrats on your tags. I'm curious to see how we drew if we did. 5 of us put in for deer and 4 for antelope as I recall.
  15. We put in for deer and pronghorn so gotta wait a bit more. We'll do otc elk when we see what deer week we drew if any.
  16. Apr 9 when I was turkey hunting I went in a gulch and there was what appreared to be 5 dead calves and nearby was what apperaed to be four dead mule deer. I'm not sure if it was winter kill or the rancher's dumping ground or the g.w. dumping ground. It was kinda odd. I was gonna take pics but didn't. Chose to m.m.o.b. On the other hand I have read nothing about winter kill this yr, whereas last year it was in the many online newpapers I read at least weekly. Altho the high country in some places has above record snowfall I dont think the lower areas where elk and mulies would move to for winter had it that bad. Last year they were taking donation$ of hay and feed, and this yr nothing. So in most areas it's prob ok.
  17. COngrats and good luck on that. It's a great area.
  18. Thinking this is not a joke I'll answer. The main ones are whitetail, mule deer, blacktail, Coues. There are as many as 19 sub spiecies the eggheads say, but I think it's prob really closer to four or five subs if you count desert mulies and key deer and a few others I can't recall.
  19. welcome back. cool pix. COngrats.
  20. you will never go wrong with any 30-06 for any game in north america that wont eat you, and most that will eat you. semi-auto's are ok but you'll do better with anybodys bolt action. Leo's suggestions as always are excellent. good luck on the moose hunt. i hear its the best venison out there.
  21. here is no more better info extant: Everything You Need To Know About Elk Hunting and on the COlo DOW website as mentioned above. Also try the 2010 and 2011 ELk Hunt Univerisity courses too on DOW website. And good luck.
  22. The Colo DOW does a good job on this, we've drawn and not had the 'habitat stamp' and they notified us to get them asap or no tag forthcoming. In fact they generally always receive high praise from me, unlike the Penna Game Commish about whom I have nothing good to say.
  23. sounds good since in every state where wolves were restocked they are decimating ungulate herds. if i see one in colo it's d.e.a.d. feds or no feds. peta or no peta. i'll tom horn it an no one will be the wiser. i'll even put a rock under it's head for the govt to choke on.
  24. I'd love to hunt AZ as I'm totally fascinated with the place. But my recent 3 week stint working there did me no good so I dont think I'll be hunting there any time soon. Tho I really wanna.
