Re: which bullet to you shoot? In my Knight MK-85, I shoot saboted .452" Hornady XTP's 250 grainers. In my T/C Black Diamond, which I havent taken hunting yet, I've received acceptable accuracy with 245 grain HP Powerbelts & "777" powder.

Re: A Slug Question For AJ [ QUOTE ] I can't see why they would not be safe. Most .410 guns are full choke. Personally, I would probably use the Winchester Buckshot loads. They will be a bit more effective than a tiny slug. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks, AJ! That was what I was thinking; just want to ask an expert's advice before firing those "Russan" slugs in my .410. I also have to try to locate some buck shot loads in .410 as they sound like they would be more effective. I tried shooting the Winchester 2.5" slug loads in my Uplander S/S and they seem accurate for a close (25-30 yard) shot. Also both barrels don't shoot to the same point of impact.

I bought some Barnaul .410 shotgun slugs, made in Russia with steel cases 3" in length. Slug weighs 97 grains. Sometimes, when I am Squirrel Hunting with my Stoger Uplander S/S .410; I take a few shotgun slug loads (2.5" Winchester Brand) along incase I see a Coyote or Groundhog at short distances. Are these slugs safe to fire in a FULL CHOKE Double Barrel Stoger S/S? The other Winchester Brand are Okay but I bought these Russian rounds (10) because they were much cheaper and they come 10 to a box instead of just 5 <Thanks in Advance>

Muzzleloader...What do you do after the hunt???
David_218 replied to TreeStandBowHunter's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: Muzzleloader...What do you do after the hunt??? I load my M/L the evening before opening day, and leave it loaded untill I bag a Deer. At the end of a hunting day I always remove the primer. NEVER leave a M/L primed if you are not hunting. -
Re: Hunter harassment LOOK OUT Hunter harassment is Illegal in the State of Indiana!

Re: What do you think its worth???? If you were selling your Knight, in my neck-of-the- woods; with scope, mounts, ect. the highest price you'll get is $250. There are too many cheaper NEW inlines out there.

Re: Average Price of an acre of land [ QUOTE ] IN MY COUNTY IN ILLINOIS ITS ABOUT 5000-10000 AN ACRE.MOSTLY BECUASE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN BIG CITIES AROUND HERE WANT TO LIVE IN THE COUNTRY,BUT STILL BE CLOSE TO THE CITY.TOO MANY SUBDIVISIONS GOING UP AROUND HERE.IN THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES I'D SAY 1200-1500 IS ABOUT THE AVERAGE. [/ QUOTE ] The same here in SW Indiana (Just North Of Evansville) where I live. Too many subdivisions gobbling up good Farm Land and Hunting Grounds/Areas.

Re: Cleaning after sightin in??? Todd, Since you're using Pyrodex RS, then yes I would definately clean the rifle after your shooting or sighting in. The reason, I am suggesting this, is when I first started hunting with a M/L I also sighted in my rifle and just used a wet cleaning patch to clear the barrel. I also ran a couple of dry patches to rid the mosture. The next day I loaded up my M/L and went hunting. Next day, I saw a nice Buck and fired at him, but the rifle went "pop" then Boom and I missed! I asked a avid black powder shooter about my experience and he told me the primer/cap nipple had some powder fouling in it which caused the misfire. I also was using Pyrodex RS in my T/C muzzleloader. So now I always have a CLEAN rifle before the hunt.

Re: breech plug wrenches? [ QUOTE ] May seem like a stupid question. Kind of curious what everyone uses. The little wrench that came with my black diamond broke and I have some older 12 point ignition and standard box end wrenches that just dont quite seem to fit very well with the scope attached. A socket can be manipulated to fit if using a standard nipple and an extension fits out the end, but not with a 209 primer. Maybe I need to pick up a 6 point ignition wrench? Any suggestions? [/ QUOTE ] I use a 7/16" socket rachet wrench with a small diameter extention rod to remove the primer plug (209) and Breech plug. Works fine!

Re: Cleaning after sightin in??? [ QUOTE ] Ok, I just sighted in my muzzleloader--shot 4 shots thru it. Should I take it apart and clean it real well or just take out the breech and run a patch or just leave it alone?--season starts saturday.-----I got it shooting perfect and want that first shot to count. thanks todd [/ QUOTE ] Todd, What powder are you using? Black Powder, Triple "777" or Pyrodex RS? If you are using the first two then you'll want to clean your barrel as corosive nature of Black Powder or Pyrodex will ruin a barrel if left unclean. Now the "Spit Patch" is fine between shots, when sighting in, but you really do need to do a comperhensive cleaning after shooting. If you are using "777" then you can get away with just barrel "spit Patch" cleaning, I use Windex, but again after you are through hunting you must clean the barrel and oil it before storage.

Re: Morning or afternoon? I've taken almost as many Deer in the evening as in the morning. But perfer to hunt in the mornings, as I don't particularly like field dressing a Deer with little light left in the day and I DON'T like to trail or look for a downed Deer in the dark.

Re: 30-06 Set Up?????????? I use to own a Ruger M-77 in .30-06 and had a Redfield 4 to 12 power scope with a rangefinder, when I hunted in Colorado. The instructions said to sight dead on at 200 yards and use the "Accutrac" settings for shots out to 500 yards. Very good scope!

Re: 17hmr vs 22 LR There's a new .17 Rimfire cartridge out now called the .17 HM2. It is based on a necked down .22 Stinger case to .17. I think this one would be more suitable for Squirrels than the .17 HMR and a few dollars cheaper too.

Re: Problem! Any help? I am puzzled Did you store your powder in a cool dry place? Also what powder "777" , Pyrodex RS, or Black Powder? Are your caps firing right or do you experience hang-fires? I suggest you try some new powder and caps to rule out this as a problem. Let us know okay?

Re: To shoot or not to shoot? That is the question Down in Kentucky, where I hunt, I always hear several shots off in the distance and wonder how those Hunters are seeing so many Deer. Well I found out that most of those shots were directed toward Coyotes. Kentucky encurages hunter to thin out the Coyote population so the Turkey population won't be affected by preditation.

Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand
David_218 replied to dogdoc's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand I've done this a couple of times; however, in some ways, it takes the fun out of hunting. Back in 1997 I was on the way back to my tree stand, on our property, but before I reached it, a nice buck appeared on the way so I took him. -
Re: Pulled Venison Barbeque Sounds GOOD! I'll give it a try ~ THANKS~

Re: Leaving loaded between hunts?? I once left a load in my Knight for around six months (unprimed!) after Deer season. That next Spring, I took it up to the rifle range and it fired normally. I had it loaded with 90 grains (Volume) of Pyrodex RS and a sabot .452" bullet, my normal load in the Knight.

Another BPI Barrel (CVA) Comes Unglued
David_218 replied to AJ's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: Another BPI Barrel (CVA) Comes Unglued Triple 7, I've used 90 grains (Volume) of "777" (Loose FFG) in both my T/C Black Diamond and Knight MK-85 in-lines with no indication of high pressures. While the T/C shoots "777" very well, my Knight perfers Pyrodex RS FFG. Both are .50 Cal. -
Opening Day of Crow Hunting
David_218 replied to Ravin R10 man's topic in Varmint & Predator Hunting
Re: Opening Day of Crow Hunting I can remember when there was no season on Crows. Over the years I've shot many of them, out of trees & on the ground, with my .222 Remington & .22 Hornet. I've only shot one with a shotgun. -
Re: A few CVA Questions ".......Its not that I am touchy about certain subjects, I am touchy about BS and misinformation. Thats all......." I am just reporting what I've read about the Savage "Smokeless" M-10-II's and I DON'T WANT to get into an argument concerning it, OKAY???
-
Re: A few CVA Questions ".....I thought hard on the Savage but they have already talked of making them illegal in Indiana due to the smokeless powder, so I will pass....." Switzerland Co. There was some talk about banning the Savage smokeless M/L, here in Indiana but that was dropped, and they are legal. However I have been on another forum and it seems that some of these Savage M/L 10-II have blown up on some including an expert during testing. So If you should purchase one I'd strongly suggest using Triple "777" or Pyrodex RS and NOT any type Modern Smokeless powder. I am certain (without owning one) they are fine M/L's otherwise just use the B.P. Subsitutes though to be safe.

Re: your shotgun ?? [ QUOTE ] We also have an old 1100 / 28 gauge (I think it's about 35 years old). I have 3 sons and it's gone through all 3 of them. It's also a bit of a hassle to find ammo for the 28. Wally doesn't carry it and there aren't any other sporting goods options in my town. [/ QUOTE ] I use to have a Remington M-1100 in 28 gauge with a poly choke. While the shotgun was fine, I could never do any good with it. The shells were hard to come by with local dealers carring only #6 or #9 shot. Not really much of a choice so I sold the shotgun back in 1979.
