Re: One Weird Duck [ QUOTE ] A Muscovy is more of a tame-farm duck isn't it? Normally white? [/ QUOTE ] True, but many excaped to the wild. Here where I live I see a lot of Hydred Ducks. Muscovy Ducks come in colors of deep Black/Green/white or all black and some are all white. They have fleshy growth around their bills and they don't "Quack" like regular ducks. They are also larger almost Goose sized.

Re: Rifle Value?? [ QUOTE ] Any one know what a Winchester model 70 youth in 7mm08 in 95% condition would run? [/ QUOTE ] With scope & mount around $300 to $350. Without scope & mount $250 to $300. It really depends on geographic location.

Re: One Weird Duck [ QUOTE ] There is a section off of the Mississippi River where I go to feed the ducks and geese when I am not hunting.... There was a group of large old mallards (lots of curly-Q's on the rear-end) and one of them was completely green metallic... you know when the sun reflects off of him you see blue and purple too... I took a picture of him but I need to get it on a CD-Rom so I can post it... He was so cool looking but has anyone ever seen anything like it? [/ QUOTE ] Your Duck, in question, might be a cross between a Mallard & Muscovy Duck.

Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun
David_218 replied to David_218's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun [ QUOTE ] Not a problem. Just remember to always verify at longer range prior to attempting the shot on game. There are some variables like scope height that can throw the numbers off. [/ QUOTE ] Will Do! Thanks, AJ! -
Re: Food Plots Sounds like a good plan to me! <Good Luck>

Re: buck fever I get a case of "Buck Fever" every season. I even get excited and get "Squirrel Fever" during that season. It is very natural to get a bit over excited as that's part of the Hunting experience.

Re: COTW - .222 Remington Thanks, AJ, for the info. on the excellent .222 Remington. I have a copy of a 1953 Gun Digest which has a very interesting article on the .222 Rem. written by Edson W. Hall simply entitled "The .222 Remington". My first High Powered rifle was a Model 700 ADL Remington in .222 and later I bought a Sako L46 Varmint rifle in .222 Remington. A very outstanding cartridge and I hope it will be with us for many more years.

Re: cleaning question [ QUOTE ] I shot my first deer with my omega tonight. After the shot I reloaded quick. If I didn't have the load and powder I would clean my gun tonight. I plan on going wed. night for sure. How long can the gun sit with a load in it and not clean it from the shot tonight. [/ QUOTE ] It depends on the powder you're using. If you use BP or Pyrodex, then yes I would fire the shot and do a cleaning. I used "777" powder for the first time this season due to the fact that you could leave a charge in your rifle after firing once, if the weather is not too wet. However when using "777", you should swab out the barrel after firing before reloading.

Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun
David_218 replied to David_218's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun [ QUOTE ] If you sight it 3/4" high at 50 yards, you will be dead on at 100 yards. This will put you about 4" low at 150 yards. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks AJ! That is what I'll do as soon, as the weather allows. I'll sight in @ .75" high @ 50 yards and check it out @ 100 yards. -
Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun
David_218 replied to David_218's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: Sighting In My Browning Gold Slug Gun Yes, my Browning shotgun is fully rifled, and I have several boxes of Winchester Supreme Gold 20 ga. sabot ammo, which is 260 grain H.P. partition bullets. I was just wondering how high should a 5-shot group be @ 50 yards inorder to hit zero @ 75 - 100 yards. I plan to sight it in @ 50 yard range and need to know if they should group 1" or 1.5" above point-of-aim. -
Re: 17 Mach 2 versus 17hmr I would buy the .17 HM-2 as it could be used for Squirrel Hunting without messing up much meat. The .17 HMR is fine for hunting small Varmints, not intended for the table. Both are currently pricy but the .17 HM-2 is a lot less expensive and I feel more useful than the .17 HMR.

Well, I received my Browning Gold 20 gauge Slug Gun, for Christmas. After reading the manual and cleaning the barrel; I mounted a 2.5 Power Weaver Scope on it. I guess this question is one for AJ , so AJ when the weather clears enough, for me to sight it in, how high should my groups be @ 50 yards using Winchester Supreme Gold 2 3/4" 260 grain sabots? I plan to use this gun for shots 75 -100 yards and would want the shots to be dead on at 100 yards. <THANKS>

Re: Why should i move to your State ? I can't give you any reason as to why anyone would want to move to Indiana!!

Re: What did Santa bring ya for Christmas.... New Browning Gold Deer Hunter 20 gauge slug gun, set of scope mounts, and plenty of ammo (Winchester Supreme Gold 2 3/4"). Also other nice gifts.

Re: Rate of twist for a .243 Most .243's have a rate-of-twist of 1-10" twist. Your 1-in-14" twists should work very well with the weight of bullets you are using, under 80 grains.

Re: PLEASE FEED THE SQUIRRELS [ QUOTE ] We had one of the largest mast year I can remember--tons of acorns and tons of pecans. I think my tree rats will be fine. todd [/ QUOTE ] We had a very large crop of Mast last year (2003) but very little, if any, this year.

Re: Country living..... About 8 miles.

Re: T/C Omega loads [ QUOTE ] I was just wanting some opinions on the best loads to use in my omega for whitetail hunting. [/ QUOTE ] I bagged two Deer with my Black Diamond .50 cal. using 90.0 Grains (Volume) of FFL "777" and .452" 250 grain saboted bullet. Got them both in the neck @ 90 yards using T/C's Factory Peep Sight.

Re: PLEASE FEED THE SQUIRRELS [ QUOTE ] Nice suggestion, and 50lbs of whole corn does'nt cost very much at your local elevator. Either that or go to a foodplot on public ground and grab a few ear's to put out for them. [/ QUOTE ] I feed the Squirrels and Deer about 50 pounds of shelled corn per week. More when the weather is extra bad like now. We have 20" of snow on the ground!

I don't know about other areas of the country, but here in Southern Indiana, we had a VERY POOR Mast crop for the Squirrels going into Winter. I think that it would be a Humane effort if all us Squirrel Hunters, here in SW Indiana, would help the Squirrels by supplying some whole corn and other seeds for them to eat over the winter season. My experiences, in the past with low Mast supplies, has been a VERY POOR Squirrel Hunting, the following season. So spend some extra money and help the Squirrels out. PLEASE!

Re: SNOOWWWWW [ QUOTE ] It was suppose to snow pretty hard today, but the weather people are never right. Well, except today. I woke up around 8 this morning, look outside. WHITE EVERYWHERE. This is our first snow this year, and it's the biggest one in 7 years. I'd say it's up to about 8" and still suppose to be snowing for a few hours. This is so awesome!! [/ QUOTE ] It is neat as Evansville & SW Indiana is over due for a truly White Christmas. The only "Fly-in-the-oinkment" is that our nut (Hickory, oak, and Walnut) Mast production, in the area was nonexistant this year. This means tough times ahead for the Squirrels It would be a good idea to place some corn or seed out for the Squirrels this winter season. Next year's Squirrels Season will be very poor Tell all your neighbors and friends to be sure to feed the Squirrels.

Re: Open sights and glasses I also wear glasses (Bifocals) and used a factory peep sight on my T/C Black Diamond .50 cal. Got a very nice Doe, in Ky. I shot the Doe in the neck at 90 yards. I find it much easier to use peep sights rather than a rear open sight.

Re: Amazon.com Joins Forces with Gun Control Group [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] When are these idiots going to realize tha GUN CONTROL LAWS DON'T WORK! These laws ONLY hurt the law abiding Sportsman and benifit the Criminals! [/ QUOTE ] Thats true, now write Amazon.com and tell them you will shop somewhere else!!! [/ QUOTE ] I don't shop at "Amazon.com".
