  1. Re: Weatherby rifles Several years ago, in Washington State; my Cousin's friend let me shoot two of his Weatherby rifles, a .460 Mag. & .378 Mag. both in the same afternoon. Two shots from the .460 and one from the .378, and the .378 had the worse recoil!

    30-30

Re: 30-30 I once owned a Remington M-788 in .30-30, and took several deer with it in KY. Very fine Caliber! Has very low recoil and is accurate!
  4. Re: deer managment - what do you do? [ QUOTE ] 1. I manage my own hunting properity (full qdm) 2. I do some management of my own hunting properity (some qdm i.e. antler restrictions). [/ QUOTE ] Both 1 & 2 + I own my own land. I normally plant a few food plots, place mineral salt blocks out each Spring, and encurage the native plants that deer like to eat, like wild honeysuckle, dogwood, ect. I only take bucks that are 8 points or more with a 16" spread. I seldom take Does.
  5. Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! I think your correct about the Clintons, wtnhunt. I am just wondering if something else is at play though, like maybe the "New World Order" is allowing this so the human population can be reduced. I know it sounds crazy but what isn't in this world today.
  6. Re: National Organizations With Anti-Gun Policies!!! Why don't these Individuals just move to Red China or North Korea? Seems they would be happier in one of those two countries.
  7. Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! [ QUOTE ] Health insurance premiums have been going up just like anything else. Can remember my first job back in the 80's, the first time when my health insurance costs went up. I may be wrong, but ever since the Clintons and the talk of socialized medicine, seems that health insurance premiums have really gone through the roof. [/ QUOTE ] I am old enought, to remember a time when one went to the Doctor for a check-up or anything else, short of surgery, when the patient paid his/her Doctor's fee out-of-pocket. Insurance was not an issue like it is today. Now when one got in for a check-up, the first thing they ask is about Insurance.
  8. Re: Things that affect a deer herd [ QUOTE ] URBAN SPRAWL You got cities growing bigger and expanding into good deer habitat.Deer are great at adapting though and what you wind up with is large herds of unhuntable deer living in city limits.Sooner or later their numbers get big enough people and the deer start having conflicts, car/deer accidents, deer eating peoples gardens, etc.... [/ QUOTE ] Where I live in SW Indiana, Urban Sprawl is occuring. The thing about it is I am seeing more Deer then before the Urban Sprawl begain!
  9. Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! [ QUOTE ] Mine also went up $50. pr month. I knew this would happen, when the Medicare System recognized obesity as a disease. It is now treatable under Government sponsored programs so private insurance companies have to cover it as well. I would much rather have better coverage for dental and eye care. But then....I'm not FAT. .....popgun [/ QUOTE ] "popgun", you're 100% correct! The Government does look at obesity as a disease, which gives the Insurance Co's an excuse to raise their premiums. I found out that the Insurance Co's look at a region's health as a whole; so if you live in an area where the general health of the population is poor (like where I live) the Insurance Co.'s raises EVERYONE'S premium in that area. It's called "Administrative Protocol". BTW: I am not fat either and, I don't smoke or drink.
  10. Re: New Rifle Question The rifles, you listed are all about the same and are good. My rifle is a Ruger M-77 MKII in .270, also have one in 7.62 X 39 m/m. Which ever you can afford is the best way to go.
  11. Re: A Waste of Good Venison: [ QUOTE ] I shot a deer a few years ago, the butcher said it was shot with a bow earlier in the season. He said he did need to throw some of the meat away. Unfortunately I never seen this side due to the drag marks. [/ QUOTE ] Back during our deer season in 2003; I had to put a Doe down that had an arrow sticking out of her back. The arrow was 8" deep between the aorta & spinal cord. I went ahead and taged her checked her in and when I skinned her she was all infected inside. So I buried her. My Brother-In-Law a Vet. said she was dying anyway, so I did good to put her down. MADE ME SICK!
  12. Don't know about you guy's Health Insurance monthly premium, but yesterday my insurance company raised my by $40! This is sure going to cut into my Hunting, Shooting, and will prevent me from buying any new rifles or equipment.
  13. Re: A Waste of Good Venison: [ QUOTE ] last year i shot a 6 point and i noticed a bad smell. the deer had been shot at least a week befor in the hind and in the leg. the deers eyes were glazed over and infected. the deer was laying in his death bed when i jumped him up. im glad i put him out of his pain but to bad he was a waist of meat. nothing i could do. i couldn't go feed that to my kids. [/ QUOTE ] Had the same thing on a Buck I shot this past season. Someone shot the buck in the hindquarter, with a .22 LR, and that portion was starting to become infected. I disgarded that quarter and kept the rest as it was okay.
  14. Re: COTW - .22 Hornet [ QUOTE ] Hi, in Europe we say .22 Hornet, its the most popular cartridge for Fox Hunting and some Birds. [/ QUOTE ] I load down my Kimber Hornet using SR-4759 powder + 50 grain bullet. Very good Squirrel load and far less destructive than a .22 Magnum.
  15. Re: Love my .17HMR!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I also plan to shoot Starlings with it too. [/ QUOTE ] How do you prepare them ? too_ [/ QUOTE ] Four & Twenty baked in a pie? ~LOL~
  16. Re: I really dislike mean and rude people Rude people are, in reality, failures, in life!
  17. Re: Dems and Gun Control [ QUOTE ] They dont want gun control. They ultimately want gun removal! Gun control is just the language they use to make it sound good to the unsuspecting American people. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with you here! It not GUN CONTROL but rather PEOPLE CONTROL (when they take away all the guns)
  18. Re: FEBRUARY - Is it Really? It's been unusually warm & rainy here in SW Indiana too. Hard to believe at Christmas we had 22.3" of snow and -11 degrees on Christmas morning! We'll probably get "Clobered" next Month!
  19. Re: Love my .17HMR!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] To each his own, but the extra performance of the HMR over the M2 is worth it to me. Head shots @ 100yds are no problem for the HMR. Dunno about the M2, but the trajectory CANNOT possibly be there as the HMR is. And it's doubtful that a body shot @ 150yds with the HMR will do little more damage than the M2 @ 50yds. How well can the M2 do @ 150yds.? The HMR does VERY WELL at that range. [/ QUOTE ] Dan, The reason, I am considering a .17 Mach-2 is due to the fact that in the area I live our population (people) is high, and while I live in the county, urban spraw is making it dangerious to use a .22 LR or .22 Mag for hunting Squirrels or other varmints. Also if I choose to use a .17 Rimfire for Squirrels, my shots average 20 to 35 yards at the most. I thought maybe the .17 Mach-2 would be less destructive on Squirrels. I also plan to shoot Starlings with it too.
  20. Re: Dems and Gun Control [ QUOTE ] Here in washington state our new Dem Governor is trying to push through new gun laws. 1. We would have to register. 2. A pump action rifle with a removeable magazine is considered an assault rifle. (Along with a list of many others, including shotguns)So it must be kept on my property. It cannot be transported unless I can prove I'm going to a state approved shooting range. It cannot be transported with ammunition. It must be locked in a case for transport. What about hunting? Sorry, it's an assault rifle. 3. The local police can inspect my guns at any time once yearly to see if they are stored properly. No more wall hangers! [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to hear that. Why don't these Gun Control NUTS get it!! GUN CONTROL DOESN'T WORK!!! I have a elderly Cousin that lives in Bellingham, Wa. that use to be quite a Black Bear Hunter!
  21. Re: Love my .17HMR!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] I think if you get the m2 you are gonna wish later down the road that you went with the HMR. Trust me it is addicting. [/ QUOTE ] HI, Is there something about the .17 Mach-2 that I don't know about?
  22. Re: Love my .17HMR!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] I just had a CZ 452 Varmint follow me home this afternoon. I thought about one and went to see my local dealer. Low and behold he had one in stock. [/ QUOTE ] I am seriously thinking about buying a CZ-452 in .17 HM-2. These shells are a bit less expensive then .17 HMR's, and aren't as destructive on Squirrels.
  23. Re: Fiber Optic Sights ?? [ QUOTE ] I just ordered a front fiber for my 20ga. Beretta. It has both green and red optics. I had some problems finding one to fit a narrow rib. Anyone else in here use one to hunt or clay shoot ? too_pointer [/ QUOTE ] I don't have fiber optic sights, on my shotguns, but a hunting buddy of mine has them on his Rem. 1187 and he seems to do well with them.
  24. Re: Social Security [ QUOTE ] OK, but how much of a rate of return do you get in your Social Security??? What is it up to now??? 0%? [/ QUOTE ] The way the Social Security has been looted it is probably <0%!
  25. Re: Help! T/C Classic Rimfire Problem AJ, I am using the very same ammo as I had used last summer. I also suspected crown damage but check it and found no damage. I have NO problem with the rifle when I have the scope mounted, infact I receive excellent accuracy. [ QUOTE ] If it is still shooting fine with the scope, either the front sight was reduced, filed, replaced with something shorter, etc, or the rear sight is higher than normal. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing has been done to either the front or rear sight. The front sight is one piece and the rear is a Williams brand "Firesight". [ QUOTE ] Another thing that can change things is shooting style. Are you shooting the apple centered, or are you shooting the apple off the stick? Basically does your sight picture look like -o- or is it more like _o_. The latter one will shoot higher than normal. [/ QUOTE ] I am shooting with sight picture looking like: ( -o-) inwhich it was dead on last year. I even tried lowering the rear sight all the way down and still was shooting high! I am really puzzled as to why it is doing this. <THANKS, AJ>
