personally i would either go with the M-1A Garand, i have a soft spot in my hart for one, and or the 1903a1, the Garand can be found all most every where i have been, and for a relative fair price, the M-1 30 carbine's are all so nice, find one thats strictly semi-auto, and shells are easy to find as well with the 30.06 and they are fun,tho in my experience they are harder to find than the 1903 or the m-1,but i also like the Mauser k-98, my grandpa found one when he was younger and redid everything and he loves it to this very day, but in my opinion i would have to say the old tried and trues 1. M-1 Garand; simply because with out it we may have lost the war's (wwII, and Korea) the Japanese feared them and the Germans hated them. 2. 1903 A-1 Springfield; its the American answer to the 8mm Mauser ballisticly, and they are just too nice to pass up and to have a piece of history is just awsome.

well bud, my Savage 110 7mm was bought used for 230.00 and the only problem is it is in Roseburg Oregon 1700 miles away from me , i live in Texas now. and i have found great deal and awsome quality fire arms. just cuz they are in a pawn shop does not mean they are junk, i come from a family who had nothing much and i was raise use whats given and take what you can get, i know enough of fire arms to know how to inspect them before i buy anything, but you are absolutely Right though and i hope you all dont take this the wrong way, but i am not a newbie. i am do have a lot of money and it will work just fine for my purpose and i am not looking to kill a deer with a rifle that can cut a group under a quarter of an inch. a inch and a half to two inches is great but i am a freaking crack shot at ranges beyond 100 yards, trust me, ;D i am not trying to be rude but the last deer i shot was last fall and it was a nice symmetrical 3x3 with 3 brow tines and i paced the shot out and it was at about 280-300 yards and i killed him with one standing shot. i cut a group at 236 yrds under 2 inches. all i wanted to know was address's names and cities

Well let me tell you what i know of the .45, it will do the job, Because if it can drop a 300 pound man with one shot it will drop a 150 pound doe, and thats a fairly big doe. i love the 45 acp and i want one in the worst way. um a 357 will do a great job, my grandpa shot a nice three point with one, and ons shot one kill was all was needed. a .22 will do the same job at 20 yards, if i could use my sweet 22 pistol i would be able to kill a nice deer at 35 yards and i would not hesitate at 50yards. i will be the first to admit, i am not the best shot but i am a fairly good shot, i hit a .44 oz. fountain soda cup at 50 yards with my pistol last fall, mainly to see if i can do it. lol i have a 9 shot revolver from h&r, the 922 , love it. ive shot grouse at 35 yards with it. but in my oppinion, i would try out the .45, but with me i dont have a large bore pistol soo i am in the market for one i can use, i have even thought about geting the tarus .22 hornet pistol if i can find it. but i would have to say a .40 or the 10mm , or the 41 would do as well , and there is so many options out there it can be hard to decide , hahahahaha

Re: My new shotgun!! new england is great we have one in 410 and they are fun to shoot and a challange win you have to do a follow up shot on a grouse. but hey i also like me nova, it shoots the 3.5's and i only been able to shoot the 3's but for geouse and every bird you want to hunt it will put the smack down on them

Re: Best Skinning Knifes trust me use what ever you want. i have a buck, an offbrand knife, i use my pockett knife, my fillet knifes, i use a number of different knifes. i like to use my own hunting knife alot. when your skinning allways have a stone or two for a quick resharpening. because no matter what knife and brand you use the tallow will fill the poors of the knife. i would say the buck is the best out there because they hold an edge like you would not beleave.that is why the buck knives are so popular.make sure what ever knife you choose , that the tip has a good curve to it. when sharpening your knife focuse on the tip the closer you get to the hiltthe edge will sharpen on its own.

Re: 30-06 if i was going to do that(thin the herd) i would use my 7mm rem mag.with a 110gro hollow. that should do the trick.. if i was hunting for the market i would use my 22 mag.

Re: 30-30 i agree. with the right amount of practice any one could shoot out to about 250 -300yds with a 30-30. it will take patiance, but can be done. the 30-30 is a very good rifle for evan elk. ill be getting a 30-30 from me gramps the well over 100 years old. it is in perfect fireing condidtion.and its all origional.it does not say winchester 30-30 but something like wcp 30. or something like that.

Re: English Pointers??? i want to get me a german short hair. but i have a dog that is going to make a fine bird hunting dog. she is a year old and about 5months old we took her out and fired the guns around her and she did not flinch. infact she was wanting to get out and get the bird lol. but she is not a pure bred hound. she beagle mixed with another breed we dont know. her name is penny because of her copperish red coloring

Re: Hunting ruffed grouse ( pats) well i have to say the blue grouse are better and i have both here in oregon. they have a nick name in our family we call them road chickens lol.i use my 12ga and my grandpas 410 and he uses his 410 and .06 lol.now dont think that he cant shoot because you would be full of ballongia. he was a sniper for the 101st air born. lol when he used his .06 last fall i was like dont use the bigg a$$ thing on the little bird, i was the one who was driveing at the time. he just shot the throut out of its neck. my step dad uses his 22 hornet lol. i dont reccommend useing a 45gr hollowpoint on a ruff grouse. does some damage. half the bird will disapper. ill just stick to the tradittional methods. my step dad would not let me try useing my 7mm on a pair of blue grouse that where fighting lol. where where deer hunting atm so it was a good thing that i did not. evan though we did not get anything last yearprobly would have helped. lol.

Re: what\'s too big i use a 7mm rem mag for most everything. i use the 150 corelotks and i shot a chipmonk with my 7mm. my step dad bet me i could not hit it for abot 100 yds away. well lol i aimed and fire and dust was every where. my stepdad was like you missed. im like you wanna bet 10 bucks on that and he was like yes so we walked over ther and i picked up what was laft of the poor dam thing lol. the guts where all ahnging out he was really reluctaint to bet me whether i can shoot or not. and the 7mm is in the same calliber ans 280 rem they are both .284 . its like the 6mm and 243 same thing.

what are the cci velositors like? i went and got a box of them a few weeks ago and have tnot been able to check them out.so i was wanting to know how do they compare with the cci stingers.
-
Re: Firearm Selection i would not recomend a 243. i would use the 22 hornet before the 243 on yotes.iwould also look into getting a 22 mag for the closer ranges. the 220 swift is a good one for long ranges.
-
Re: 30-06 i would suggest getting a 22 mag. they are really good for yotes. trust me. they have about a 100yds range and get a decent scope and get the cci +v and you are set. all you would need is a call and a yote in your sights. thats if you are hunting for the market. the 22 mag has a 22 cal entrance whole and a exit whole about the size of a quarter. but it all up to you.
