Beautiful but I'm sure you are sick of it.

Clover does not grow well in the summer. You would be better off waiting until September to plant clover. The heat of the summer will not let the clover grow well. You will get weeds taking over the plot. Get a soil sample now. If you need lime you need to get it out soon. It takes time for the lime to do its job in the soil. The soil test will tell you what the proper fertilizer and lime you need. You will also need sunlight, without this your plot will fail. Roundup the plot in August. Plant with the proper fertilizer in Sep.

I tried and they only have poast at 225.00 for 2.5 gals.

Anyone know where I can get Poast Plus 2.5 gals cheap. I have found it for 150+ on e-bay but thought someone here may have a better supplier.

American Joint Vetch and Alyce clover. As long as you bushhog it once in the summer the vetch will take off. Try this in one plot and you will plant everything next year with this. The vetch is expensive but it is worth it and mixed with the alyce clover you dont plant as much. I cut the plot back to 8 to 10 inches in heighth after about a 1 1/2 months. The hotter it gets the more the deer like it. Good luck and try a small plot or take my word for it.

That depends on how much land you have and if you have enough cover available for the deer. I cant see how you can have too many but then again it can break the bank. I would suggest to plant as much as you can afford. The expence part hit me so I planted several in Durana clover that will grow summer and fall and is suppose to last for 5 plus years. All I have to do with these plots is cut and maybe put some fertilizer down from time to time. I will try different stuff in the rest of them. Hard work will be rewarded. Tim:D

I need to buy a sprayer for my 4 wheeler and dont want to break the bank. This will be the first one for me so I dont know anything about them. Cant anyone lead me in the right direction. I will only be spraying 5 to 6 acres during the summer along with my yard. I thought about getting the one below because it has the ability to spray 15 ft to the right side. I want to spray the edges of my plots to kill the privet that is slowly taking over my plots. Is this a good one? This is from the Moultrie site and is there most expensive model. Easily spray hard-to-reach areas of fields and fence lines directly from your ATV or utility vehicle with Moultrie’s complete line of sprayers. 25-gallon capacity Spray wand included Spray wand with 15-ft hose 10-ft and 30-ft boomless sprayer included On/Off control valve to control 10-ft spray heads Includes "right of way" spray head, which sprays 15 feet to the vehicle's right side 3 gallon/minute, 50 psi pump Easy "set on / lift off" design Fits ATVs and utility vehicle Built-in tank graduation scal in each hopper for accurate chemical mixing Pressure gauge for pump Tank drain valve (compatible with garden hose threads for emptying unused tank contents back into storage container) Heavy-duty hoses, brass valves and fittings for long life and corrosion resistance Heavy-duty pumps with chemical resistant valves and diaphragms Ratchet straps included for securing sprayer tanks Sprayers are powered via wired remote control that plugs into vehicle's DC outlet Pump strainer is located outside of tank for easy cleaning, if needed $169.00 Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I use the HSS pro series. This is a light harness and very easy to get into. I dont want to be fumbling with straps trying to figure out what goes where in the dark. Also I forget I have mine on. I find myself jumping in my truck and I still have it on. There are several good makes out there now. The best advice would be to go to a large hunting store and see if they will let you try on a few to see what feels good. All of them can save your life if you wear them. You cant go wrong with the HSS, Summit, Gorilla harness. Sorry if i missed your favorite but I think these are the best and in that order. My 2 cent.

Get them while they last. Cheap feeders
bowhtr1 replied to bowhtr1's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
Re: Get them while they last. Cheap feeders I have the type that the deer have to hit the rod to drop the corn or soybeans. It does take some time for them to get use to it but it saves alot of feed in the long run. I always put a pile of corn under it until the deer learn how to make it drop. They will hit it while eating the corn pile and it will drop so they will learn. I have gone more to the tripod feeders now so I can get the deer to move during the day. With that type of feeder they can come anytime day or night mostly night and eat. -
Re: Moutrie Cameras?? Here are some good deals on the 35 mm. I use to have 4 of the 35 mm moultrie until I started making my own. They worked good for me but it is a pain to have to wait on the film to get developed. In the long run you will save money with the digital. But if you want to get your feet wet then this may be what you want. You will go digital sooner or later. check out this link and scroll down to the cameras on closeout. Several picture on my webshots page below are from my old moutrie cams. http://www.moultriefeeders.com/catalog.aspx?catid=ScratchDentCloseoutsRefurbishedUnits Good luck.

Re: Tree Ladder I had a simular problem with one of my ladder stands. I had to chip off the thick coating on the outside off the part that slides into the other one. Then I put triflow on it to keep it from rusting and let it air out. If this doesnt work e-mail gorilla and ask them.

Re: Homebrew Cameras?? I go to hagshouse.com for most of my camera building. I do check out the other web pages listed above also. I may use some things from one and some from another site. When I ask questions I go back to hags. Good luck and plan on making several because you cant make just one.

Re: How close do you put your trail cam to your st I put mine where the deer are. I dont care about the stand site. I have alot of pictures of the same bucks over and over. You can look at my webshots page below for proof of that. I have had the deer move to another trail 10 yards from the one with the camera. I had the camera directly on the trail and still got several pictures before I notice less and less pics after a few weeks. I have one small plot that I get alot of pictures with a mineral site. This is my favorite picture spot. I get tons of pictures at this spot. I think the deer think it is a lightning flash. The down fall to the flash is that if you have someone on your property and they get flashed they might seal your cam. randy, I did have issues with my old 35 mm camera's. The sound of the film advance scared them but I made my own digital cameras that dont make any noise and that problem went away. I am not sure but that may be your problem.

Re: Thinking of a new bow. What do you think? I have food plots all over and I only hunt one stand one time each week. I have about 12 stand sites so I only hunt 3 to 4 in a weekend and never do I hunt one more than twice in a weeekend. Only the doe's come out in the food plots in daylight. the bucks stay back in the thicket. Thats my problem. I have little openings from my stand for a shot in several directions. I dont take iffy shots. Out of my 30+ deer I have only lost about 3 that I found blood. I have missed a few. lol. As I said before all the new bows feel good to me to pull back and shoot. I keep getting the ditto when I have done this already. I have not pull the xforce yet. That may change my mind. I was hoping someone had one or had some info other than what is on the PSE site.

Re: video camera I can take mine out of my camera and put it in my DVD player and it plays on my TV. It will also play on my computer. I do have a Sony DVD/VHS player on my TV which might be why mine works. My DVD/CD dive on my computer is Sony also.

Re: Thinking of a new bow. What do you think? I have a little experience, I have shot over 30 deer with bows. I started at the age of 18 and I am now 45. I have tried several bows including the Mathews switchback. I have not had the chance the try the xforce yet but if the archery shop has one I will today. Most of the bows feel good to shoot and pull back. I cant say one feels better than the other. The reason could be that my old bow is so bad that anything new feels good. When all of these companys get this good I think it will have to be some other reasons to buy from them. Thats why I am looking for speed. Some things people dont talk about much but mean alot to me is how far above the line of sight a arrow has to go to hit the target. You can have limbs, and we do, that can get in your way and you dont even see them in your line of sight so you take the shot only to smack a small limb that causes a bad shot or miss. I dont like that, we hunt in very thick woods and clear shots are not ever made. You are shooting through a small hole or lane. If you cut the lane to much the deer avoid it. Even if you cut the lane a year in advance. Speed is the only thing that helps this.

Re: Help me and my wife!!! Let her go ride the can-am and then bring her to the Honda shop and put her on the 500. She may change her mind. I dont think you can beat a Honda. I have put mine though some bad stuff.

Re: Your QDM plan Hey, QDMAworks4me, I like your goal to see more bucks in the daylight. What do you do for that. Maybe it is the coyote's. But they hunt at night. ?? I have two properties, one is 400 acers the other is 120. On the 400 I pass small bucks and take only 8 points or better unless I see a cull deer. (not many or those around) We plant and put our mineral sites. The rest that hunt with me will kill anything that doesnt have spots. I stick to my guns anyway and keep on them about the small deer. On the other land I do the same but no one else hunts it so I can see the plots, mineral licks and the fact of not shooting small bucks working.

Re: Food plot help... I have had good results with all of the name brand seed company's including Biologic. Just beware of the seed store mix. Some will give you mostly cheap seeds in the mix and charge you premium price. Something to think about if you have the area to do it would be to spray the area you want a plot with weedkiller. After it dies use a hand tiller if you have one and till the ouline of the plot. Then burn it off on a windless day. This will save you some time, pain and put nuitrients back in the soil. If you dont have a hand tiller then you can rake around the edges. The small plots you are talking about would make this easy to do. I had a buddy do 4 small plots that made one large plot doing this and it works great. He did have the best looking plot that year. Good luck.

Re: video camera I like the Sony's also. My last one took a beating after dropping it twice from my tree stand. I thought I finished it off when I fell in a creek with it in my hand. After it dried out it worked again but has a slight halo effect while filming. I bought a new one about a year ago and got the mini DVD. It is the DVD92. This one had the biggest optical zoom at the time. You want one with the biggest optical (dont fall for the big digital zoom) zoom you can get. Good luck.

Re: What is a good Deer Camera ? New to this... I think Leaf River is better than Cuddleback but I know alot of folks that have cuddlebacks and swear by them. Homebrew cams are the best in my mind. I have made 6 already had one stolen and will be making a video cam this summer. One word of caution, if you make one homebrew you will be hooked. You can't make only one. I have some pics of some of mine on my webshots page below. Good luck with whatever you decide.
