  1. Thanks guys. I stopped into a little archery shop that my neighbor runs and asked him what his opinion was. He looked up his price on them and he cant even buy them from a distributer for that price. Figured I would go with a 3 or 5 pin sight. She hasnt taken bow hunter's safety yet so this will just be backyard fun shooting for now. So I dont want to overwhelm her with a bunch of pins. If I do end up with a 5 pin sight for it, Ill just drop the bottom two pins down to the bottom so she doesnt have to worry about those for the time being.
  2. i couldnt get to town but I had a buddy pick it up for me! I bought it for her for a birthday/graduation present but it will be hard waiting until then to give it to her! It came as bow only so now I gotta get it set up with all the goodies!
  3. Hey guys. I need an opinion on a bow. My fiancee and I have been talking about gettin a bow for her for a couple years. A while back we looked at a Bear Homewrecker and she liked it but the price was pretty steep being $399 for the bare bow. We looked today and they dropped the price to $199 for the bow only. Anyways, any of you guys have any experience with the bow? Im thinking I might have to just jump on it for the price.
  4. Thanks guys. I appreciate all the well wishes and welcome back's. So here is a little bit about the pictures. The doe in the first picture was my first deer of the year. She was walking from my left to right about 230 yards out and she finally caught my wind. Right then, I let her have a 140gr Fusion from my new little Remington Model 7 7mm-08. Antelope-My dad and I snuck up on a herd of speed goats one morning after we had been having trouble finding any antelope the first week of the season. I shot him with my Remington 700 ADL 243 Winchester with 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip handloads. Next is my buddy's buck. We hunted hard all weekend and finally made an awesome stalk on this buck. Had to sneak past some does about 40 yards from us, spooked a few but they didnt blow the stalk. He made a great 200 yard shot with his 270 Win. Next picture is my #2 and #3 does for the season. I had a nice little hide out in a bush. They jumped the fence about 100 yards from me and I dropped the first one where it stood, and the other one just stood there looking at the other and it dropped right in its tracks also. Used my 243 with the 95gr Btips again. Next is my buck. I was only able to get out after work and my dad had been out all day. He got cold so he headed home. It was snowin like crazy and about -10 out when I saw a doe come out. I started to go after her and she went back in the brush. So I found a good spot to watch where she might come out and all of the sudden this buck came flyin out of the brush about 65 yards from me. I led him and knocked him down. Put one in his neck to end it. He ended up being alot bigger than I thought. 7x7 and scored 148". Once again, 243 Win and 95gr Btips. Next is Dad's buck. We put a decent stalk on him as close as we could get with no cover. Dad put him down with his Rem 700 300 Ultra Mag with 180gr Accubonds. Little brother's buck is next. Once again we got as close as we could but there was no grass taller than about 6". He is a crack shot and made a 500 yard shot with his custom 7mm-300 Weatherby and 160gr Accubonds. My dad, little bro, and I all killed out bucks in -10 degree weather. I got mine the evening before Dad and Sully killed theirs the next morning. Next picture was when we got back from Dad and Sully's hunt. I threw my buck in for the picture. L-R. Dads buck, Sullys buck, and my buck. Next is my Fiancee's buck. She hunted hard with me all season and finally got her's the second to last day of the season. 100 yard shot with her Ruger 77 Hawkeye all weather and 130gr Federal Fusions. Next is a picture of Dusti and I with her buck Next is my last two does of the season. Got them on the last day if I remember right. Smaller one was a 150 yard shot. About 10 mins later, I shot the mature doe at 380 yards. Both with 243 and 95gr Btips. Next is my younger brother's buck. We made an awesome 500 yard stalk on him. Dad and I stayed back while Hayden got a little closer. He shot him with his 338 Win mag. Next is my little sister's buck. I believe the shot was around 200 yards. Used her Marlin XS7Y 7mm-08 and 140gr Accubonds. First coyote picture was one I shot while on the way out to my honey hole. 350 yard shot with my 243 and 95gr Btips. 2nd coyote pic was one of a pair that I called into about 75 yards. Shot it with my Rem 700 22-250 and 50gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.
  5. Im back again guys! Hopefully to stick around longer! Just been crazy busy with work. Some of you may have forgot me or not know me but anywho, I finished up my bachelor's degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders in December. Got engaged on Dec. 23 to the most amazing girl in the world and the wedding date is July 7th, 2012. We are both super excited and cant wait! I applied to the U of M graduate school program and praying that the Lord will help the faculty make the right decision! lol. I got a job working for a special needs cooperative as a Speech/Language Paraprofessional. So I do speech/language therapy under a supervisor. Its the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. To be able to see the look on a kids face when they finally produce the correct speech sound is priceless! I am incredibly blessed. Im living back in my hometown and Im not ashamed to admit that I sit at my parents dining room table every evening to eat a home cooked meal instead of the Ramen and mac and cheese I was so used to and sick of for the last 5 years! Had an awesome hunting season. Between my fiancee, 2 brothers, sister, my dad, my buddy and I, we killed 15 whitetails! I was able to fill all 7 of my tags with 6 does and a 148" 7x7 whitetail as well as a 12 1/2" antelope. Killed a few coyotes as well and the gophers are startin to come out! Here is a few pics for ya'll! So thats whats new with me. Hopefully tomorrow Ill edit and add who is who in the pics and maybe a little story with each!
  6. No man, we dont have an disease over here. My buddy guides for Milk River Outfitters and i just got a text from him the other day saying they most of their deer are dead from some sort of blue tongue like disease. Ill be sure to keep you updated though. I think my neck is starting to swell already...lol
  7. Nice buck bud! Im itchin to get out. Got an either sex antelope tag burning a whole in my pocket. Hopefully I can cut a couple notches in it in a couple weeks! Ive got 7 deer tags to fill this season too! Goin all out!
  8. I just brought my boat home out of storage earlier this week too. Last summer I got a flat tire on the trailer and put the spare on. I guess I forgot to fix the original flat tire so the first time I went to get it a couple weeks ago, a tire on the trailer was flat as well as the spare. So I got that fixed and went back and brought it home. Its been raining all week here though so I still havent taken the cover off to charge the battery and get it cleaned up. But Im looking forward to getting it going. I too love the sound of the 2 stroke running with muffs! I think the weather is supposed to be nice all next week so I may take her out and fish a little.
  9. About 2 weeks ago I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from the University of Montana. The program started back up a few years ago after not being available for 2 or 3 decades. Turns out I am the first male to graduate from that program since it started back up! I thought that was pretty neat. Although, I still have a few classes to complete. I taking two summer classes right now and one in the fall and then Im totally done with that. Im about to start filling out applications for Grad schools to get my Master's degree. Summer classes are only 5 weeks long but they squeeze a whole semester's worth of homework and information into those 5 weeks. This next month is going to be busy! They are just nonsense classes to fulfill the requirements so Im taking Intro to Photoshop and Linguistic Analysis. So if anyone has photoshop experience and could give me tips I would greatly appreciate it! Ive never used it before but it should be fun. Anyways, I hope I can make it around here more often now!
  10. My best buddy Jaeger. He will be 2 this May. The whole bird hunting thing finally clicked with him this year.
  11. Ive got 2 270s, a 270 Gibbs which basically an Improved 270 Win, and a 300WSM. I use both alot but being a gun salesman, buy what makes you happy. If nothing else, buy more ammo and practice more, upgrade your scope, or do a little customizing. Im planning a new rifle purchase as well, and Ill be going with another 270 Win. Why? I have no idea. Looking to go lighter, and wanna try out a Winchester rifle since all my others are Remingtons or Rugers.
  12. We didnt weight it but I held it up and I guessed it would go at least 25lbs. That could be way off but it was HEAVY for a cat. Yep its the first one they have caught. First one I have seen up close. Ive called them in while coyote hunting but it wasnt bobcat season.
  13. Last weekend my brother went out with his buddy to check his traps. Look what they came home with... My brother is about 6'3" for reference
  14. My thing is Reloading and rifles. I love sitting at the reloading bench, learning from my dad, tweeking loads to get the most accuracy possible out of my rifle. If you look at my gun collection, you can tell that i love bolt action rifles. 95% of my firearms are rifles. I can sit at my computer for hours on end, researching the latest thing out, reading reviews, and learning about new cartridges. This in turn, also helps me be more helpful to my customers at work also.
  15. One of my buddies from school came home with me this weekend to see if we could find him a Muley. He is from Iowa and has never killed a Mule Deer until today. The place we went this morning always holds whitetails but we havent see a Mule Deer there in a couple years. He had a whitetail doe tag so we were goiong to try to fill that tag. We spooked a big whitetail buck off and I caught an odd white spot out of the corner of my eye. To our surprise it was a Muley and a buck at that! I dont know how we got this lucky but he just stood there and never knew we were around. We snuck into about 150 yards and Jason used my 270 Win and made a perfect shot on him. He was quartering away from us pretty hard and Jason put the shot right behind his ribs and took out his liver, lungs and put a thumb size hole in his heart! He only went 5 yards and piled up! I even found the bullet between his body and hide on the other side. Jason used my handloads with 130gr Accubonds. Here are a few pics.

    Swamp People

Also one of my favorite shows along with Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Roads. Swamp people shows my true heritage. Most of my family is still down in Louisiana and lived and hunted for a living just like the guys on the show did.Our family always laughed at the fact that they put alot of subtitles in the show because all of us could understand everything they said!
  17. I have experienced two Remington 700s go off when they werent supposed to. The first time was with an old 700 that my grandpa lent to me my first couple years of hunting. My dad had just put ammo in the magazine and closed the bolt on an empty chamber luckily because when he locked the bolt down, the firing pin snapped off. The second one was with my brand new 700 243 win. I bought it this last may and took it to the range twice. The first time I shot about 15 rounds through it without a problem. The second time I took it to the range, I shot one shot and then chambered another round. I pulled the trigger and just a faint click. I sat there for around 30 seconds thinking it was a hang fire and it never went off, so i grabbed the bolt, lifted it about a 1/4" and it went off with my finger no where near the trigger! I had it still pointed down range. I sent it to a Remington authorized repair place and they replaced the trigger and I know it was replaced for a fact. The original trigger was an xmark trigger but didnt have the screw on the trigger to lighten the pull and the new trigger does. Has worked like a charm since getting it back.
  18. Yep! Come on! Ill reserve ya a spot next year. lol. I still gotta take my buddy from Iowa out this weekend, then try to find my Dad a good buck, maybe help my little brother, and then its finally my turn! Of course, I could have shot this one when Dusti asked me if I wanted to but as much as she and I have been hunting hard, this is the biggest buck we have seen while out together so I told her to take him instead of me. Hopefully Ill find a good one before Thanksgiving.
  19. Sunday morning my girlfriend and I headed out to sit in the same spot where my little sister shot her first buck from. When we were a couple hundred yards from where we were going to sit, I spotted a buck out in the stubble. We made a quick plan and snuck with in a couple hundred yards of him. He was walking straight away from us and then he saw us move and stopped and turned broad side. Dusti dropped him where he stood with one shot to the neck from her Ruger Hawkeye all weather 270 Win. She was shooting 130gr Federal Fusions. She was pretty excited for dropping him in his tracks but I think she experienced a little ground shrinkage. He didnt have the mass she wanted but he taped almost 18" wide! I really wish I could have gotten this one on video too. It worked out just too perfect! Here are the pics! Just a pic of the clouds and a rainbow Dusti took a pic of while we sat out in the wind Saturday evening. Dusti and her 2010 buck! Buck in the truck! Dusti and me with her buck

    what size?

I videoed some bucks this summer that will go into the 160" range so of course im holding out for one of those but towards the end of the season, i will shoot a smaller buck if he is respectable. I wont shoot a young buck though.
  21. This morning we went out and set up on the edge of the ridge that over looked some stubble fields with alot of buffalo berry bushes mixed in. Right at day light we could see a really nice buck standing out about 300 yards to the north of us but he was inside a big hay corral so we didnt want to try shooting through the wires. A pickup drove by on the dirt road and a doe stood up that was bedded in the hay corral also. She started to trot off and he was staying right with her. The doe was still inside the hay corral and settled down and layed down again. When the buck saw the truck, he laid down in the tall grass and put his head down. He was a smart old buck! We sat there about another hour waiting for them to get up and then started trying to make a plan on how to push them towards my Dad and little sister. Then my dad caught movement out of the corner of his eye and down in the fields below us he saw a buck going into a big patch of bushes. We looked through our binocs and saw there was 3 bucks! We had no idea where they came from. I would have bet $1000 that the 3 bucks were going to bed down in the bushes for the day but to our surprise, they came out of the bushes and all 3 started trotting closer to us. We were sitting above a few little springs so I guess they were coming to water. So my dad, little sister, our friend Dave, and I crawled to the edge of the hill and got Abby ready. The biggest buck just kept on coming to us and we still couldnt believe our luck! I had the video camera rolling and when he was 190 yards out, Dad let out a whistle that stopped the big buck in his tracks perfectly broad side. Abby flicked off the safety and squeezed the trigger. Boom! Thwack! She made a perfect shot and he ran around 75 yards and piled up! We all hooped and hollared! We were all so proud of her and it made it just that much better that I got the whole thing on video! Even after the shot, the buck and doe in the corral didnt get up until we all stood up and started hugging and highfiving. I almost took a shot at him once he stood up but had a post in front of his vitals. I had one happy little sister with a ear to ear smile on her face all day long. I think she has called just about everyone in our family and gone to all of our friend's house in town and shown them! So here are the pics of Abby's first buck! It ended up scoring 130" and she used her Marlin XS7Y 7mm-08 with 120gr Federal Fusions. Abby and Dad Abby and me Abby, Dave, and me Prettiest makeup she could ever wear! And the video!
  22. Just sighted in my new remington 700 243 with federal premium 85gr Triple Shocks. My rifle hasnt liked anything in the 95-100gr range so i bought the TSX's. Dont have time or components to work up a load before season starts in 2 weeks so ill be starting from scratch this spring and working up a good load for it. So far i love my 243. Have shot 2 coyotes with it. one at 350 yards and one at 460 yards with 58gr hornady vmaxs!

    Im back!

Its been probably close to 2 months since i was last on here.
  24. My little brother bought some early this last summer. They are absolutely worth the money. He bought the half pound ones, one that is like 1-1.5 pounds and a 2-2.5 pound one. The half pounders were impressive. The 1.5lbs was just insane. We set one on top of a cross tie that was set in the ground on end and shot it. It turned the top foot or so of the cross tie to splinters! Cant wait to see what the 2.5lbs does! We shot the 1lbs from 100 yards and we could feel the shock wave hit our chests!
