Well I could only hunt a few hours this morning, but I still knew I wanted to be out there. It was a perfect morning and I was in my treestand before daylight. I was hunting a spot for the first time, and it was real thick w/ very few shooting lanes. Right at 8:00 I saw a doe coming my way down a trail and behind her I could see a small buck (turned out to be a 4 pt). He followed her to within about 20 yards and then he bedded down while she fed. Soon she was leaving, so when he stood I drew and he stepped into a shooting lane. I put the pin where I wanted and released. I heard a "THWACK!" and he jumped and took a few quick steps then stopped. My arrow had dead centered a small tree. To be honest, I must have been shaking like a leaf because I missed him pretty bad. He snuck on up the hill and didn't offer a good shot again. Neither deer spooked bad, he just wandered off, the doe never really reacted. I climbed down later and removed my arrow from the small tree. I know that you don't get that many perfect opprotunities, and I flubbed this one up.

Re: Sims Limb Savers Products On Your Bow? Just 2 products: String Leaches and Limb Savers. They made a HUGE difference on my PSE.

Re: treestand I had always just used a stationary stand that I hang on a tree, then last year I got a climber (Hunter's View 12-Point from Dick's Sporting Goods). I love it. It weighs about 19 pounds and is a great climber. I have hunted everytime so far this year out of it. I used it this morning, but no luck. Today was a really windy morning, but it as just as secure and safe as any other in the swaying oak. It is a little bothersome walking in and out of the woods w/ a climber, but the freedom it gives you is worth it.

I just got off the phone w/ my father. He was telling me about the other evening when he was watching a hillside and the edge of a field. He said that he saw a nice buck walk out in the field and he was just hoping it would come about 100 yards or so and get in bow range. He said that he observed the buck chasing a doe around and kind of showing rutting activity. Then he said the buck ran off around a 4 point! He said it was probably just playing around, and that it was probably too early to start any rutting activity, so I'm wondering if this is so. Have any of you all seen activity this early in season? The land he was hunting was in Southern WV.

I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO
Rem308 replied to fisherguy's topic in Bowhunting
Re: I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO I would agree, if he stopped and didn't seem in a big hurry, I'd say he was about to expire. Especially after the initial heads down sprint. That is awesome, and I would bet that he's bedded down right inside those cornrows. He probably got to a spot he felt safe and then just piled up. Glad to hear you and the wife both slammed one tonight. Good luck in the morning and I look forward to seeing both of your pictures on here tomorow evening. By the way, what state are you hunting in? Just wondering w/ Sunday hunting and all. -
Re: Saturday\'s Hunt That's what I keep telling myself. I will go back to that stand again, but I'm going to wait on bad weather or for it to be late in the season. I'd say the pressure will drop as time passes.

Re: Back From WV Bowhunt Way to go! Sounds like a great time and some real good people up in Gilmer Co. Good luck w/ the rest of your season.

Re: Guess it happens to everyone ? Yeah it happens to the best of us. I've missed a few deer in situation worse than that! Don't worry about it, and that rush of 'buck/doe fever' has already been felt by me on the first day of bow season...And I never even released an arrow! I would give that stand a week to settle down, then hunt it hard again. Good luck

Well Saturday morning I went to a local public hunting Wildlife Management Area. I found a great spot awhile back, so I took my climber and was setup well before daylight. It was a perfect morning, hardly any wind, a front was moving in and bringing overcast skies w/ it. Well I watched it get daylight and sat around till about 8:30 w/out seeing anything. I decided to give the Can Call a few turns, and immediately I heard another deer right over the ridge bleat back. I started getting excited and I called again. I then heard something walking in from behind me. I turned to see 2 hunters walking through the woods w/ shotguns and NO blazed orange. I carry a blazed orange hat w/ me, so I pulled it out of my pack and waved it at them. They saw that and walked the other way. I was pretty disappointed, figuring the deer were gone for the morning. At 10:30 AM I hear something else circling my stand and I look to see another hunter (no orange) walking through. Needless to say I was pretty let down. I didn't see a deer all day. Next Saturday I'll be hunting on private land that a friend gave me permission to hunt.

Re: Read on stand? When I was in college I lugged many a book to the treestand...I got one deer while studying and took he photos of me holding the textbook beside the deer. I then showed the guys in class and they really got a kick out of it; I think the professor even liked seeing it. I haven't done that any since, but I may grab a book or magazine and take it w/ me sometime.

Possible New PA State Record Taken................
Rem308 replied to PAbowhunter4life's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Possible New PA State Record Taken................ That is just an amazing buck right there. I don't really pay much attention to the "official scores" and "deductions". But to each their own. That is a really HUGE buck! -
Re: My buddys 151\" bow kill That is a great looking buck. A true monster! Congrats to your buddy.

Re: Buck down!! *Pics are in* That's a real good looking cornfed buck. You appologized about the scenery of thoe pictures, but the first one isn't bad at all. The American Flag in the background makes it great, in my opinion. Congrats on the GREAT buck! Can't wait to see the pictures of the wider one. Good luck w/ the rest of your season.

Re: Busted.........but it is still all good! Man I"ve had some similiar occurences. The worst is the time between when you lower your bow down and when you actually get down to pick it back up. I have had a few times when I'd lower it, and start hearing deer. Like you said, to make a long story short. Oh well, good luck w/ the rest of your season.

Re: Muzzy\'s Strike Again! (pic) Way to go on a great doe. Sounds like you made a real good shot on her too. I have helped track deer that just didn't bleed much at all, but were shot good. Stange how it happens sometimes. Congrats again.

Well I was in my climber bright and early watching it break daylight Saturday morning. About 45 minutes after day light I caught a glimpse of a doe walking along a trail eventually coming within 30 yards of my stand. I was getting all excited, but she turned slightly and went on through some real thick stuff. She stopped a few times to feed, but wasn't presenting anything to shoot at. I grunted twice, after she got around 50 yards out and she turned and came back towards my stand, but this time she went on the high side of the hill and again was withing about 30 yards or so. I had shooting lane picked and as she slowly came to it, I drew. She was hesitant and hurried through my lane and then stopped behind a pine. She knew something wasn't right, I'm guessing she slighly winded me, because she hurried off in a fast and alert walk. I hunted the rest of the day and all I saw were about 4 turkeys. It was real rainy and once the wind picked up the movement and action stopped. Oh well, I'll be hitting the woods again soon, maybe a few evenings this week, and definitely next Saturday. Hope you others connected on your deer this weekend.

Re: -Mississippi Albino Buck- The post immediately before mine was a great post. You really did your homework and it is appreciated here. However, to the guy who's posting all these deer pictures and albino's, you have some issues. Why lie? This is a friendly forum for a great sport that we all love so much. So why lie? I have yet to tag that monster buck that I'm dreaming of, I haven't even gotten a deer with the bow yet, there is no reason to lie on this site. I would really like to tell you what I think of you, but I'll keep it off the forum out of respect. Speaking of respect, you really need to gain some for the outdoors and the people who enjoy them.
