Re: Poaching I live in Cleveland county, that's about an hour west of Charlotte and in the Western Deer Season.

    Poaching

I just got off the phone with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. I had to report a guy that is hunting the property adjcent to ours who is bragging about and showing off a deer he killed with a rifle. Rifle season doesn't come in for another week. I told him it was poaching and he just shrugged his shoulders and laughed. I hate to do it, but he had to be reported. Anyone who knowingly poaches and laughs about it doesn't deserve to be hunting.
  4. Re: white oak or pin oak? The acorn size sounds like a chestnut oak, but the chestnut oak has unmistakeable leaf shape and dentation and no physical resemblence to a red oak. If the tree looks like a red oak, I would guess black oak, which is in the red oak taxonomic subfamily. The black closely resembles the red oak, but has the acorn size of the white oaks.
  5. Re: what kind of broadheads does everone shoot? I shoot Muzzy 3-blade 125 gr. broadheads. Best broadheads out there imo.
  6. Re: Savage I have a model 111 in .270 and it's never let me down. Great guns.
  7. Re: 10 Year Old With First Deer (pic) Great deer and an awesome first deer. Congrats!
  8. Re: white oak or pin oak? If it looks like a pin oak with larger acorns, it's probably some type of red oak. White oaks don't have the bristle-tip leaves that pin oaks and red oaks have.
  9. Re: Reasons/Excuses for missing... I have missed twice with a bow, both times I misjudged the distances.

    Tinks 69

Re: Tinks 69 It is very much worth the money. Great product
  11. Re: Perfect rifle for deer? I consider the .270 to be the best deer rifle, but that is JMO.
  12. Re: .17hmr the .17 is a great varmit and coyote gun. I've shot coyotes with it and it works great, I just don't shoot over 130 yards or so. As far a squirrel hunting, I wouldn't hesitate to use it....
  13. Re: whats your s/n ? NCbowhunter12 on AIM
  14. Re: Coonhuntin\' I used to. Grew up coon hunting 3 or 4 nights a week, but I lost most of my intrest when my best dog died; he was 14 years old and a 2 time South Carolina Nite Champ and Grand Champ.
  15. Re: Browning A bolt My uncle shoots an A-bolt .280 and it's a great gun. It has a little weight, if you're looking for more weight though, I'd try the Browning BAR series, I have a .300 mag in the BAR and it's pretty heavy.
  16. Re: Need some help I would try to set up on the flat close to one of those white oak trees. If the acorns are dropping, you are bound to see deer.
  17. Re: What\'s your favorite type of soda? SUN-DROP!!!!! and pepsi products
  18. Re: Any Frog Giggers? I love frog gigging, been doing it since I was little. Lots of summer nights spent on creek and pond banks with a gig and a sack or bucket.
  19. Re: 9 year old gun hunting suggestions All the rifles you mentioned were great guns for him. I started out on a 30/30 when I was 5 and it was fine, I hunted with it until I was 12 or so and killed plenty of deer.
  20. Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I always take them to the skinning rack whole and skin and gut them there, then take the guts and all in a 5 gallon bucket to one of the coyote stands.
  21. Re: Stripers on the NC coast Out of a boat Mainly around Hwy 17 and Hwy 32 bridges in the Albemarle Sound.
  22. Re: what do u think is the best bow on the market? I love my Parker Pheonix. But thats what fits me...
  23. I have had little luck the last month with stripers in the Oregon Inlet and along the NC coast. Do any of you guys have some tips for catching them in early fall. I have exhausted all known options and don't know what to do...
  24. Re: Online deer scoring calculator??? My dad shot one with similar width and structure, amd same number of points and it scored low 130s so that would be my guess for this one
