Re: Turkey Calling The best advice I can give is to go turkey hunting with a veteran turkey hunter. You will learn more hands on than you will watching videos. Their are instructional videos out their that will help you learn the bacic calls. Friction calls are much easier to learn than mouth calls, so you might want to start with them and after you get those calls down start messing with mouth calls. Hope this helps God Bless

Re: New Turkey Hunter in Need of Advice... Tough one. It dose depend on the activity. Some guys say look for a new spot, but I have seen some developed areas become a wildlife haven. I would probably look for some back up spots, but still keep your eye on your hunt club. Hope this helps. God Bless

Re: Turkey Welcome for Colorado First you won't scare the birds off by calling to them in the fall. Actually they are very vocal during that time of the year. To be completely honest I call as much or more in the fall than in the spring. If they can be vocal, so can I!! Alot of hunters will scatter a flock and try to call them in, and that dose work, but I like to call to the whole flock first. Even if you don't get them to come in they will probably answer your calling and you can usually get an idea of what direction they are heading. Knowing where they are heading allows you to postion yourself for a ambush or postion yourself to scatter them. A good scatter is important, you want turkeys to go in every direction. As far as calling them back in, if you are unsure on when to call or how to call, wait until the birds start calling and imitate them but with a little more emotion. Re: shells for these smart birds First of all welcome Littlebighorn All guns shoot different loads differently. I shoot a old Rem. 870 Express with a HS Undertaker Choke tube and for the longest time I shot Federal 3" 2 ounce 6's. It shot fairly tight patterns out to about 35 yards. I have recently changed to Rem. 3" 2 ounce #5 mag. turkey loads and it holds a tight pattern out to 40 yards and has alot more knock down power at farther distances. You will need to shoot your gun with different loads from differnt companys, but #4's, 5's and 6's are what most hunters use. Just experiment Hope this helps and good luck this fall God Bless Shawn

Re: new to turkey hunting, calling advise I believe that Quaker Boy and HS Strut make instructional tape. You might want to try to find a tape that has real turkeys calling, ain't nothing like learning from the real thing(LOL). I would watch as many vidoes and read as many maqazines as possible, but the best advice for a new turkey hunter is to go out hunting with an experienced turkey hunter that has dozens of gobblers under his belt. Re: Fall calling question. For starters I would use a two reeded call with no cuts and pratice, pratice, pratice. Try different air and tongue pressure. Say Pea Pea Pea or Tee Tee Tee or Wee Wee Wee. Good luck God Bless

Re: Fall calling question. All good advice, but I would try to call the flock to you first and if that dosen't work I would bust them up and start Kee Keeing. If you are not sure on how to call to them just call like they do, imitate them but with a little more feeling. Hope this helps God Bless

Re: whats the best type of call? I have to agree with what other guys have said. What ever call the gobblers want to hear, but it has to be a call you feel comfortable using. HOOK'S custom calls for me!

Re: Tips on henned up Gobblers. If their is an old hen in that group, try to kee-kee to her. Sometimes her motherly instincts will kick in and she will come your way, hopefully with the gobbler in tow. I have used this before when other methods didn't work. Hope this helps Good luck

Re: My favorite weapon when gobblers are henned up. I have used that technique before, sometimes it works and sometimes it did'nt. Another one that is worth trying that has worked for me is to run the kee-kee and direct it towards the hen. If it is an old hen sometimes you can work that motherly instinct in your favor.

Re: the hardest call Any doubled reeded or triple reeded mouth call that dose'nt have any cuts should work. To run the kee-kee run I say the words" pee pee pee"( with out using your voice) raising in pitch and volume with each note. It will take some practice, but is a good call to learn. I used it in the fall as well as the spring. Good luck.
