  4. Re: Finally got Hawk pics with my homemade trail c Great pics...keep em coming! JP
  5. Re: my first bow buck Congrats to you, but where's the pics? JP
  6. Re: Pa. rifle season starts next monday For the first time in years...i may have to miss opening morning cause of work. Can't get a vacation day for it this year...super bummed! I'm gonna ask everyone there if they'll switch a day with me. I did see some nice bucks this year, but not much deer movement overall. I think it had more to do with the amount of food in the woods in my area. The population is there without a doubt. JP
  7. Re: Took a nice doe on Saturday Congrats to you! and thanks for sharing. JP
  8. Re: Before & After of a different kind Beautiful animal...looks like you made a perfect shot on it too. Congrats on the cool kill. JP
  9. Re: Same Buck or Not? Definately two different bucks. First, notice the difference in angle of the g3's. The one on the right angles forward towards the end of the main beam and the other angles rearward. Secondly, the space between the right g2 and g3 on buck pic # 2 is greater than pic #1. Also the buck in pic 1 has longer brow tines. Similar, but not the same deer. They may be brothers if in the same area. Is that the same feeder spot, but different angle? JP
  10. Picture this...during the course of a deer's daily jaunt, he's got one thing on his mind mostly...danger. He's constantly looking, listening, smelling. That's his constant "attitude". There are a few things that you can do to change this attitude. Just getting his mind from looking for danger, and onto something else to pique his curiosity, if only for a few seconds, affords you a possible shot, extra movement etc. Some things aren't always foolproof, but will sometimes still work for you in order to get a shot off. Here are some of the things I use that help out. Scents Most manufacturers claim to have the "magic potion". "Buy thier's, cause it's the best"! Whether it's doe in heat, tarsal gland or a curiosity lure of some sort, most every commercial brand works. They may not work 100 percent of the time, but if you get a buck to stop in a shooting lane to smell it just for a few seconds...it's done it's job. Decoys .Sometimes I think using decoys is a double edge sword. It either works or works against you 50 percent of the time. A few times i've used mine, I had deer come in...spot the decoy, and after not getting the attention of the decoy through repeated foot stompings, snorts, head bobs and the like. Once they saw that the decoy was intently "staring" into one direction...they headed off thinking there was possible danger where the decoy was looking. Even though it made the deer uneasy to a degree, it did it's job for the simple reason that it got the attention of incoming deer for a brief moment and not on looking up into your tree. What are some of your ways you use to change thier attitudes? PS...Not claiming to "know it all" but trying to help out some newbies to our sport. Good luck and happy hunting! JP
  11. How many of you use hunting journals for the season? I'm starting to this year and have made up a journal sheet that opens with "wordpad" if you'd like to copy it. Let me know what you think of it and if there's something more i could add. Check it out here > www.parsonsoutdoors.com/huntingjournal.rtf JP
  12. With the upcoming "Youth Hunts" scheduled, I urge you to be a mentor and find a child that has a possible interest in the outdoors, but may not have the opportunity to participate for such reasons as...parents who don't hunt, no money for guns, ammo etc., and donate a day towards the future of hunting and trapping. With overall declining hunter numbers...The future of our sport is directly related to the continuing participation of our youth in our hunting and furtaking seasons. Contact your state wildlife dept and get the scheduled dates...whether it's your child or the neighbor kid, you may just have the time of your life. Thanks all!!! JP
  13. Re: My 12 yr. Old Nieces FIRST Bowkill - Video Cli Thanks for the replies everyone. I think it will be the first scene in our next production! JP
  14. My brother in law has been doing some videoing where he hunts and got some footage of an albino doe. As you'll see, she's missing part of her rear leg...don't know why though. Check it out here > www.parsonsoutdoors.com/albinodoe.wmv JP
  15. This is a 4 1/2 minute clip of my 12 year old niece's first deer harvest. My brother in law filmed the whole hunt and then handed it to me for editing. It was her first shot and first hunt ever! I don't know who was more excited about the whole ordeal, my brother in law or her! Check it out here --> http://www.parsonsoutdoors.com/kelciesbowkill.wmv JP
  16. Re: why are deers necks so big in the rut? Whitetails necks swell up from the constant rubbing of trees during the fall. It's the same as if you did bicep curls like crazy for a few months. You'd see alot of gain in muscle size, but after you quit for awhile, you'd lose most of the muscle mass. JP
  17. Re: biggest buck? So far it's a 10 point from Pa that I shot two years ago with my recurve. My son Hunter is holding the rack below. JP
  18. Re: First Day Double Video Clip A little pre season primer for those of you who haven't seen it. JP
  19. Re: Fletching Length Unless you're getting rest contact from them, going to a shorter/smaller vane won't help. Larger vanes give steer the arrow better than smaller ones. A lot of people swear by the Blazer vanes, but I have no experience with them, so can't recommend them for you. JP
  20. Re: ANOTHER PIC OF THE BIG BUCK! Oh my, nice buck. Thanks for sharing. JP
  21. Re: pa hunters We do most of our hunting and filming in Pennsylvania. Beaver County mostly with some other hunts in Bedford and Clarion. The outlook looks pretty good this year as far as bucks are concerned. Does are another story in the central part of the state. JP
  22. Re: What\'s the best deer stand name you\'ve had? "THE KILLIN TREE" We took 6 deer there in the last two years, and all on video! JP
  23. Can someone tell me which state has the latest bow season ending date and what day it is? Thanks.. JP
  24. Re: Tennis ball anyone? Pretty cool idea! I just bought a can of tennis balls for my 15 year old daughter. She was planning on playing tennis for the school, but changed her mind. It looks like i'm going to have to put them to use. Use caution with blunt tips on "bouncy" material. I was stump shooting/roving one time with a blunt and noticed a 1 liter pop bottle in the woods....I shot it with the blunt and the arrow skipped high into the air...never to be found again. It went so far and high, I never heard it hit. Good bye arrow! Thanks for sharing JP
  25. Re: Camcorders For low lighting situations, i'd say the Sony PD-150 or PD-170. For the best image quality and color saturation, i'd say the Canon GL2's. We use a GL2 and are pretty satisfied with it. Thinking of picking up a Sony next year though. JP
