  6. Re: OTP starter gun......... Gold, ha, for little girls. I shot my first BIG bore gun today. .500 Nitro Express 3 in. I believe. I wasn't worried about the recoil, it was the fact I was holding a $75,000 Holland and Holland. It was intense. I had shot more then a few .375 HH rounds before, but this was in a different ball park. What are the minimims for this "Off The Porch" gang
  7. 04 Super Tec. 29'' Draw 60-70 lbs. This bow is still in 90-95%. Has some minor scrapes here and there. This bow shoots great and has done me well. The only reason Im selling it is due to the fact that I need a shorter draw length. I will be selling the barebow only, and am asking $350 tyd. I will post pictures asap. I will also take certian trades for Hoyts in the 27.5-28'' draw range.
  8. Re: took a button buck tonight.... Congrats on what should turn into one fine tasting animal. However, the picture isnt doing that deer any justice, and appears rather tasteless
  9. Re: tc omega or the new triumph [ QUOTE ] My opinion is if your going to go with a new omega get the newest one with the 28" fluted barrel like the prohunter, I think it is called the X7 or Z7...something like that. [/ QUOTE ]The X7 has a 24 in barrel I believe.
  10. Re: Are you happy? Yes and no. Anyone that reads thing I would love to hear any and all thoughts on what I'm about to write. When this season started in was on pins and needles. I couldn't wait, it felt like my first season all over again. Four days into the season I harvested a doe, and she became a gift to the land owner. At the time it happened you would have thought I took a world record. On 10/11 I harvested my largest archery buck. I was so pumped I couldn't talk to my hunting partner to tell him what happened, and I had trouble putting away my hunting gear before getting out the flash light before tracking him. What a rush. I was pumped for a few days after that. Then my season changed. I harvested 3 more antler-less deer to date, and not once did I get anywhere near as excited. The only joy I got out of those harvests, was seeing I hit where I aimed. At this time I really wish that I felt as I did when I began deer hunting. In those days I would come unglued to the sight of ANY deer, but as of late the harvest isn't the event that it once was. I worry that I am becoming a killer, not a hunter. Im not sure what to think.

    africam

Re: africam Huge shooting star, about it
  13. Re: Check out this muzzleloader Great point, the guys I gun hunt with shoot smoothbore shotguns with rifled chokes, and shoot good to 75 yards as per thier ability. Looking at my Encore I double that distance. My reason for using the muzzeloader is just having one shot. For this reason is also bow hunt. I have one chance, one shot.
  14. Re: Carry gun We cant do CC here in IL but if we could I would be using my XD 45. XD subcompacts are nice, as are the SW Chiefs Special.
  15. Re: Does/Button Bucks Shorter face is a good call, If earlier in the year, a BB (button Buck) will be with its mom (doe). It will probably be nervous in most cases that I have seen. Most of all with good observation its possilbe to see bumps on the head of a BB. If possible watch the deer as much as possible before shooting, you will know what it is.
  16. Re: Opens tomorrow This is Rocko, my 3 year old German Shorthair, and I after this mornings hunt. Just one of the better pictures taken.
  17. Re: todays results Wow great mixed bag. Where about where you hunting?
  18. Re: Opens tomorrow We took 6 birds today, put up over 25 today 13 of which where roosters. Will post pictures asap
  19. Re: What to do need advice. I guess the easy answer is to stay out of there until you see bucks pushing does, then go back in with the wind right. If you go in with the wind wrong you might alert him to you being there and its over then

    Any advice?

So the story goes a little like this. Last November I got pictures of a good deer on my trail camera, and spent November till season end hunting him. I saw him 3 times, all out of range, and once standing on the drive to the farm. All summer I never spotted him, and he hadn't shown up on any of my cameras in the timber. I really thought he might have been killed. That was until today. About 5:15 I saw him. He was roughly 60 yards up wind of my stand, making a scrape. The cover was so thick I thought it was another very large deer, however the color of his rack, and a tell tale scar proved that it was him. Anyways in an effort to bring him into range, I took out my Primos can and flipped once. His head shot up and was looking in my direction through the brush. It seemed to me it looked like he liked what he heard so I did it again. Much to my dismay, he took a few bounds, tail down, and like that was gone. I was down wind, with a steady wind to my face, and there was a lot of cover between us. The only thing I can think of is he didnt see the source of the sound and didnt want anything to do with an invisable doe. Im at a loss. He wasnt where I saw him last year, I dont know where he came from or where he went. What should I do now?
  22. Re: HELP! optima .50 I shot 150 gr 777 with a 240 grain XTP and shot 1.5 in groups at 100 yards.
