  1. Re: gps problems Two questions. Is there some kind of downloadable patch on the internet to update the program in the unit. Kind of like a microsoft update. We have the real precise GPS units here at work for surveying and Trimble had updates for a number of years for our collecters and base units. Second, is there more than one kind of battery in it. Ours has a lithium battery to hold the memory when the regular batteries die. Those are a couple of things to think about. Tell me how it turns out.
  2. Re: Don\'t think I\'m stupid.... BUT!!!! First off, your wife is great. I would nominate her for a cloning experiment for the perfect hunter's wife any day. Second, what are you waiting for. I agree a man can never have enough guns. More is better. Tell us how it shoots with that new turkey scope. Look out goblers here comes billygoat.
  3. Re: BIG MISTAKE!!!! Dad told me to put only virgin olive oil in a light coat on the cast after you clean it. I only put hot water in my cast and clean it while it's still hot. Wipe it dry after you clean it and then put the olive oil on the cast. The olive oil doesn't get sticky like vegetable oil. My skillet is a big 14 incher. You can really pack in the good stuff.
  4. Re: Big Spending Hunters Normally I don't spend any more than about $200 a year on tags, ammo, and little stuff. But this year I bought a $500 Hoyt, a $75 7mm Mauser Rifle, and all the little stuff that goes with them. That will more than do for a long time. I am simple, but the opportunity was there and I took it.
  5. Re: I anyone else out there still hunting? Yeah, I'm in the freezer filling mode. Doe on the brain. We have until Sunday to hunt with rifles and the bow season goes until the end of the month. I took my bow stands down because they were in the dmu that doesn't let you hunt past the end of December. Rifle season is my only hope. I got a button buck before Christmas. He wasn't over about 50 or 60 lbs though. Not much meat in the freezer, but the steaks are teeender, yum, yum.
  6. Re: Being late for school... [ QUOTE ] i know exactly what you mean ... set it for a half hour earlier than you want to get up, and keep hittin the snooze bar .... it works for me! [/ QUOTE ] He's right, that's what I do too. It really works.
  7. Re: My wife got me an awesome Chrismas present!!! NICE Gun!!! Does she have a sister? lol
  8. Re: History Buffs I have to be a history buff being in the surveying profession. I love the history channel and those modern marvel shows on discovery channel. I like watching how things were built years ago and are still structural icons today.
  9. Re: What\'s your favorite brand of coffee? [ QUOTE ] As long as it's black, and strong, I don't see too much difference in brands. My wife always gets me Maxwell House though, I guess she thinks I like it. [/ QUOTE ] I'm with you but I like Folger's Classic the best. I have one of those big 64 oz. camo Nissan thermos's from Cabela's and I usually drink half to three quarters during the day.
  10. Re: getting my girlfriend to hunt If you find out, let me know. I thought I had my wife interested when I bought my new Hoyt. She asked what I was going to do with my old Bear. She said she wanted to learn to shoot. I got it off the sales rack at the pro shop and it's sat ever since.
  11. Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Yah, we have one here in Topeka. I think that the name of the store is a requirement of its employees. They know all and you know nothing. I get soo tired of know it all salesmen who don't put in near as much time afield as anyone else.
  12. Re: A Kansas Hello!! It already is my second home. When I'm in the office I'm on here several times a day. It's great to see so many people love the outdoors like I do.
  13. Hi guys, I actually read the "My Introduction" thread and thought it was a good idea. I'm new to the forums within the last month or two, but thought I'd tell you all a little about myself. I live in Topeka, Kansas and enjoy any type of hunting I have the time to do. I like to try new things any time I can and you guys are teaching me a lot in here. I've only actually been hunting for about three years now, but info is good.
  14. Re: Road worker ran over by Semi Speaking of idiot drivers, you ought to try and work in the highway. I am on a survey crew and we're always in the traffic. You tend to drink more some evenings more than others, if you know what I mean.
  15. Re: Making it tender... This is what I do when I cook tenderloins. You can try this and see what you think. I have a George Foreman grill in the kitchen and have found that if I put some Excalibur Venison Rub on the meat after I poke holes in it with a fork and rub it in, all the while the grill is getting warm. I go to the fridge and get one of those handy potatoes wrapped in plastic out and put it in the micro. It cooks for about seven minutes. Put the meat on the grill and start the potatoe, and about four minutes or so, depending on how you like your meat cooked check and see if its done. Mine are usually done before the potatoe, just enough time to take it off and cut it up and then the potatoe is done. It only takes me about 15 or 20 minutes to make dinner for myself. And its almost always tender for me anyway. Try that and see what happens. If it works let me know.
  16. Re: Your magazine subscriptions North American Hunter Bowhunter Bowhunting
  17. Re: Kansas Mountain Lion? No, no one tried to gut it. It laid down in the creek after he shot it bc he trailed it to where it laid. It was just covered in leaves and sticks. Last time I checked, coyotes didn't do that. I watched a National Geographic show on Mountain Lions and their distinctive attribute is to cover their kill similar to this. Just wondered what the rest of you guys think?
  18. My nephew was telling of how he trailed a buck he shot the night before, the following morning. He said he must have walked past him a good four or five times before he noticed an antler sticking out of a leaf and twig pile in the bottom of the creek bed. I told him that it sounded like a mountian lion covering his kill to eat for a few days. He said the guts were the only thing ate on when he found it and that he thought it was coyotes. Any suggestions, either way?
  19. Re: Hunters View Treestands [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I just purchased a Hunters View hang on this fall. It's a very nice stand except for the seat pad. It's not very quiet, it squeaks if you make the slightest movement. I had to take it off mid way through a hunt this past October. Anyone else have this problem? [/ QUOTE ] Have the same exact problem with their tri pod seats. [/ QUOTE ] I have the same problem with their hang on with the swivel seat. Sometimes it makes noise sometimes it doesn't.
  20. Re: Beware Hunters and Landowners [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I suggest putting up these signs alongside your No Trespassing signs: Trespassers Will Be Shot - Survivors Will Be Prosecuted It really does work wonders. [/ QUOTE ] OR you could word it like this.... Trespassers will be shot... Survivors will be shot again [/ QUOTE ] How about: Trespassers will be shot.... Survivors will be castrated!!! Hey, this is just an idea, you could hang some trail cams and catch these guys red handed. That's the kind of stuff a game warden would just love. It would put a big smile on my face, if I was in your position. Amish number 3,4,5,........ ARRESTED!
  21. Re: Kansas Results!!!! Nice deer, don't feel bad I think there is a brute here in the state waiting for you next year. What part of the state did you guys hunt in?
  22. Re: Who Hates Rifle Season I can't say I hate it, if I didn't rifle hunt I wouldn't have had deer in my freezer last year. I LOVE to bowhunt, but I like deer hunting. And well, let's face it folks I really LOVE the meat. So, being a bowhunter for only 3 years I'm still learning the ins and outs so I use my game tag during rifle season and do my management part and harvest a doe. When rifle season is over I go back to bowhunting for my first buck, and if that doesn't happen then I can rifle hunt for 8 days in January for a doe with my leftover bow tag. I can't say I despise rifle hunting, it feeds me through the year. But, I will agree there are some real idiots out there that should have never been allowed to even touch a rifle, let alone hunt living animals with them.
  23. Re: Harvest Reporting It's only mandatory in specified deer units here in Kansas. I think most of the units in Southwest Kansas are checking their deer at check stations. I live in Northeast Kansas and to my knowledge we have never had check stations in this part of the state. They primarily use the stations to check for CWD and to do biology research.
  24. Re: Warm + Rubber boots =?????? Try the Field and Stream insulated knee high boots. Mine have 1200 grams of Thinsulate and are camoflaged in Advantage Timber. They have nice tread on the bottom. I use them in the winter when I work outside and for hunting too. They only cost about $70.00 at Dick's Sporting Goods.
  25. Re: the new hoyt turbo tech I just bought a Hoyt Ultra Mag this season. Because I realized I needed a left hand bow instead of a right hand. I shot it at the shop and fell in love with it. It has 3/4 split limbs, V-tech riser, cam and a half tech. A very forgiving bow. The price wasn't too forgiving though. I think I spent about $500 when it was all said and done. They switched all my stuff over and gave me an hour of range time at the shop.
