  1. Re: what bow do u shoot? I shoot a Hoyt Ultratec, I just got it this year and boy was I missing alot, its an awesome, forgiving bow.
  2. Re: Being Polite Hunter It's just really frustrating that's all. I wish I could help this guy out like a couple of brothers did for me 3 years ago. I stopped to talk to them to make sure I wasn't messing up their setups and they offered me a stand to use not too far from where I have mine now. That's the best thing a new bow hunter could ever have good comrades. I wish I could do the same for this guy. I don't know how w/o insulting him.
  3. Re: Being Polite Hunter Yeah, I realize it's public land. I am a very easy going guy, last year I had a guy hang a stand 50 yards from my tree and he made a lot of wracket too. He didn't last too long though. He wasn't a good sport about either. We had deer moving one morning and we were both there. They came right by my stand and not his. About 30 minutes later he climbed down and made as much noise as he could leaving. I didn't see him again the rest of the year and I was there alot.
  4. Re: Being Polite Hunter He's using his own stuff. I don't understand why he isn't using a ground blind or trying to conceal himself a little better. We're all trying to work an old dried out pond that is a virtual highway for deer travel.
  5. Re: What are your jobs? I am a survey technician and a construction inspector. I am going to take my first surveyors test in April, hopefully. We stay pretty busy, it's a small firm and I do alot of different things. But one thing I love about the fall and winter is they tend to get slow so I take time now and then to get quality time in the woods.
  6. Re: Squirrels...How many take shots Just the other night I shot at a squirrel and thought I had him, until he scampered off. When I went to pull my arrow out of the ground, I discovered that I hit a tree root about a foot down. Now I have one less broadhead. Still got my arrow, go carbon arrows.
  7. I have a question for you guys. My brother-in-law and I have been hunting this piece of public land North of Topeka for about three weeks with pretty good luck. We had the whole South end of the 80 acres to ourselves, until..... Last Saturday morning we went in at about 6:15. There was a truck parked at the South line of the piece, we didn't think anything about. We walked our trail all the way down and as we were about to part to go to our separate spots when the hunter stepped out from in front of an evergreen tree. He had been sitting in front of the tree on a five gallon bucket out in the middle of nowhere. I was startled and a little upset also. He has been in there a couple of more times since and makes all sorts of racket on his way in and out. I would like to talk to him, but how do I do it and not offend him. Whenever he is there, there is no movement whatsoever. Any suggestions. I hate to make anyone mad but I can only hunt certain days and I would like to make the most of them.
  8. Re: Trucks???? '99 Chevy Silverado 1/2 Ton 5.3L V8 only 80,200 miles on it. It gets 18MPG on the highway and 15.5MPG in town. Not bad for a 4x4.
  9. Re: Acerage question? I bow hunt 86 acres with 80 being WIHA. I rifle hunt on about 200 acres. All are good spots, even the public ground.
  10. Re: New Bow I just bought a new Hoyt Ultra Mag this year and personally I agree with jerdanmagic, shoot the bow before you buy. I wouldn't have bought a Hoyt if I hadn't have shot it for a few minutes. Some personal one on one pro shop help can go a long way. I mean you are going to spend more than $200 on a bow, better make it the right one. Money doesn't grow on trees, at least not here in Kansas.
  11. Re: Fletching colors? Mine are two yellow with one green on Carbon Express Arrows. My brother got me a Stylus light for my B-Day with a Blue LED in it. I noticed the other night as I was coming down from my stand that the blue light really illuminated the vanes on my arrows. The blue is also good for tracking at night.
  12. Re: ...Yooouuu just might be a redneck!!! Got a joke for you guys: You know what you can tell about a redneck with possum running out both sides of his mouth? "His trailer house is level" Thought you might like that.
