05-06 RT Forum Deer Contest - ENTRY THREAD

Re: 05-06 RT Forum Deer Contest - ENTRY THREAD -
Monday was the rifle opener for West Virginia.... and I must say.... 4am seems to come earlier every year I go. This year, the portion of the county we hunt in was regulated to bucks only unless you entered into a lottery for a single doe permit which we missed out on. In the 8 or so years I've been going up there, I've seen ONE buck in the woods and that was last year. I took pity on him because he was a spike and let him walk. Well, this year on the first day of our rifle opener I sat in the same spot I saw the spike in last year. Things were pretty quiet until 9:00AM came and I hear a dog start barking a few hundred yards down over the hill from me so I get the 'ol .270 up and got ready because I figured the stupid dog was chasing deer. Well, as expected 7 deer come charging up through the woods, they stop on the flat below me within 60-70 yards to see if the dog is still following, I scan all their heads - no horns. The dog gets within 60 yards or so from them and they take off, making their way across the gas line towards where my dad was sitting. The deer AND dog crossed in front of my Dad and made their way down the other side of the mountain. 25 minutes later I hear the same dog barking on Dad's side of the mountain but this time he sounds pretty close. Not a minute later, I see nothing but a big white tail bounding through the woods away from me. Soon after, Dad gets on the radio and says the dog is coming back across the gas line to me and while he was still talking, I look up and see a deer come FLYING down the hill to my right at 70 yards. Before I get the gun up, I see horns.... so I got the .270 up, aimed, knocked the safety off and pulled the trigger. BOOM! falls flat on the ground.. doesn't even run.... doesn't even kick. I was shaking so bad I could barely work the bolt and put the safety back on. I managed to slip the brass in my pocket, pick up the radio and squeak out.... I GOT HIM! Dad replied back, "a buck?!" I was like....... yeah!!! I got him!!!! he just....... FELL! My legs felt like jello when I stood up they were shaking so bad, I cried a little (don't laugh!), and I could barely catch my breath! I finally made my way down to him, lifted his head up and was like..... OH MY GOSH! I got on the radio and said.... IT'S AN 8 POINT! and then I cried a little more...... and thanked God for blessing me with such a beautiful animal. Dad eventually made his way down to me, gave me a HUGE hug and congratulated me! I will remember that moment alone FOREVER. Just typing this brings tears to my eyes. Anyway, I know he's not the biggest buck.... but in my eyes he's a monster!

Have you ever found a deer dead with no damage.

Re: that guy I'm glad you guys don't pick on me like you do each other. LOL Uh, there's one new lady on my shift that has an opinion about everything even if you aren't even talking to her. She listens in on your conversations and adds her two cents. One day in the near future I'm going to tell her off or be like..... Hey, this is an A and B conversation so C your way out.

Re: W.Va rifle season starts Monday the 21st I'm almost ready to go! Just have to get my stuff packed up and make the drive up to Kanawha County and I'll be set. Re: Kickers & Stickers Well guys and gal, I'm leaving on Sunday for my hunting trip... our rifle opener starts on Monday, so I won't be back until Sunday the 27th. Thanks to my Dad, we missed out on the lottery for doe tags this year so I'll either be bringing home a buck or nothing at all.... so pray for horns!!! The .270 is shot in and ready to go and so am I... just got a bit more packing to do and I'll be set. Talked to Dad on the phone the other night and the bucks are finally starting to do their thing! We're having the latest rut EVER...! Anyway, I hope to be posting pics of a buck when I get back...... so just keep your fingers (and toes!) crossed for me! Good luck to everyone else!

Re: People need to learn to shoot! What a shame.... A couple years ago on the first day of rifle season my Dad was sitting in one of my favorite spots when he hears BOOM! down the hill from him over on the neighboring property. Not two minutes went by and here comes a big doe which stops within 20 yards of Dad and stares back down the hill. He looked to see what she was staring at and it was her fawn with a front leg blown off, tongue hanging out, struggling up the hill. Dad said it was SO pitiful...! Even worse.. the person who shot it didn't even come looking for it.... Stuff like this really burns me up!

Re: Bought a new truck Congrats on the new truck! Only thing wrong with it is the fact that it's not a Dodge!

Re: Stupid piece if plastic nothingness..... Sorry but I laughed really hard when I read your post.... LOL! I can just imagine something like that happening to me - I have the worst luck. Oh yeah, when I worked at Walmart...... you wouldn't believe how many lexmark printers were returned. I've had my compaq IJ600 for years and it still works like a champ.....

Re: CMA Awards Wow.. some of you pick folks apart don't ya? LOL I didn't paticularly care much for the CMA's this year. They should keep em country....! You don't see a bunch of country folks at the rap awards (not sure what they're called) do you? When LeAnn Rimes came out on stage with that guy from the Sopranos I was like, uh...... what does he have to do with country music? OH, and did anyone else happen to notice the see through factor in the bottom part of Allison Krauss' dress?! Only thing I enjoyed about the awards was Keith Urban, but, his voice was all squeaky like he was going through puberty or something while he was singing! Oh well, he's still hot.

-
Re: Kickers & Stickers Congrats Scott.... Way to go! Yeah.. my foot is tasting good right about now... LOL
-
Re: MY WORST NIGHTMARE CAME TRUE TODAY!!!!!! (PICS) Ah geez.... and I was so looking forward to hearing that you had got him. I hate to hear that this is what became of the fella. At least you were able to find him and didn't have to question the rest of the season whether or not someone else had got him. I would say you should definately have a shoulder mount done. The amount of time you put into this deer and all.... plus the fact that he's a monster..... is plenty reason enough to have him mounted. Again, sorry to hear about this.... but there will be other big boys to come along for ya as there have been in previous years! Good luck with the rest of your season.
