Newarcher - coles is exactly right. We've caught LOTS of nice sized trout that way. I usually pinch off the tail of a night crawler (1-2 inches), run the hook through the pinched off end, double it over on the hook once or twice, poke the syringe into the middle part of the worm and shoot enough air into it for the thing to float in the water. Be careful not to put too much air into it though or it'll bust the worm and not float. After shooting the worm with air, dip him in the water to see if he actually floats, but if not, poke another hole in him, give him another small shot of air and test it again before tossing him out in the lake.
