  1. Re: The never ending story of a Spring Turkey hunt... I heard a gobble. Wow.
  2. I noticed this on the nwtf forums. Flintlock's son had a great idea where one could make a story by adding only 5 words to the previous posts reply. It was a good idea. So here we go.... I can remember it like.....
  3. Re: Tips on starting a custom calls business? Thanks Redbeard. Do you think other call makers/manufacturers would contact me about my call resembling theirs? Reason I ask is you can only make a paddle on a box call just a few ways. Most paddles look the same. Heck, I have seen a few boxes that look much like big companies calls.
  4. I have been making custom box calls for a few years now. I would like to start making more. I thought about making it a small business and make a webpage. Of course I can't put 40 hours a week into my calls though. Maybe 5 calls per week, just a side job to do after work. I am just wondering how custom call makers do it? That is....Patents on the call? Business licensing? ETC.? What do I need to do?
  5. Re: First Time Sanding of Crystal Call? I too just purchased the Crystal Freak and a Slick Stick. Very nice call. First glass call also. High pitch and loud yet I can also make some soft tree yelps. The Slick Stick is the only way to go with conditioning.
  6. Wondering how many people shoot the 3 inch magnum shells or the 3.5 inch super magnum shells???
  7. Re: Anyone have feedback on CHOKE TUBES? Seems alot of people love the Comp-N-Choke .655.
  8. Re: Question about Remington 870 The synthetic stock is hollow. But, there is a ridge of molded plastic that runs the whole way down the stock. Hard to explain, but you will see once you take the buttplate off. I have the same exact gun and drilled the stock myself. I chose a drill bit that was the same diameter as the screw (minus the threads). I had another 870 so I looked at it to decide where to place the stud. I also used a punch tool for a good start on the drill bit. Mark your drill bit with masking tape to the depth you want to drill. Make sure you line up with the stock and take is slow. A sharp bit will eat up the sythetic material. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
  9. I shoot a Comp-N-Choke .655 thru my Remi 870. Shoots good with any type of ammo EXCEPT HeviShot. Kicks and CNC are not designed to shoot HeviShot. But they work great with good ole copper-plated lead!! I tried the Undertaker HeviShot and wasn't too impressed. The new Federal with Flight Control worked great with my CNC.
  10. Re: * * * New \"Hot Hen\" Decoy!!! (pic) Well, I have to say it took a while to get the "detail" right. But, I think it captures what a hot "tom" is always after!!!!
  11. Re: * * * New \"Hot Hen\" Decoy!!! (pic) Yep....
  12. What do you think??? Probably attract more men then gobblers!!! Comes with quick-detach brassiere and legs for easy transport!
  13. Re: Heading to Bass Pro in Auburn on Tuesday (Tomorrow I made my trip to BPS in Cincinnati a few weeks ago for turkey supplies. Do it every year!!! Have Fun!

  15. KDFWR voted and passed the new crossbow season. No more 10 day seasons fellas. Crossbow season for KY will be open during the regular 4 1/2 month archery season (Sept-Jan.)!!! Article: Crossbows OK'd to hunt deer, turkey FRANKFORT - At Friday's quarterly meeting of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission, crossbows were approved for use during the fall deer and wild turkey archery seasons, and creel limits were reduced on several fish species, beginning in March 2006. Here are some highlights: Deer season dates and bag limits for Kentucky's 2005-06 white-tailed deer season were adopted virtually unchanged from last season. The only significant revision was that crossbows can now be used by archers during the 41/2-month fall wild turkey and deer seasons, which begin in early September. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We're constantly trying to find ways to increase opportunities for hunters," said Jon Gassett, director of wildlife for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "Hunting with crossbows won't impact deer or wild turkey populations, and there won't be a big jump in the archery harvest." The crossbow regulation was opposed by the United Bow Hunters of Kentucky, a statewide archery club with about 400 members, who argued that crossbows, which have stocks and triggers like firearms, don't fit the definition of archery equipment under the current regulations. Last season, during a 136-day archery season, Kentucky's estimated 90,000 bow hunters bagged 14,135 deer, or just 11.3 percent of the reported statewide harvest. http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/sports/outdoors/11063898.htm Also another article: http://www.kyoutdoors.com/portal/index.p..._position=19:19

  17. Re: Texas Rio\'s (picures) Nice pics, especially the hen laying down in the "I'm ready!" position!!!!
  18. Re: Borch\'s new toy. Haven't heard much about Stoeger? I assume BenelliUSA makes them. Upon investigation, Stoeger does seem to be much much cheaper than Benelli's. What about their quality? May have to get me one of these!!!
  19. Re: Fed. Flight Control Wad, try it I tried the new Federal with the FC wad and loved it. I shoot an 870 with 3 inch #6 Fed's packing a 2 oz. load through a Comp-N-Choke. This did wonders. I also tried 4's,5's, & 6's in Remi HeviShot and was not as impressed. More extensive testing for both the Federali's and the Remi's. I would like to shoot HS for the energy if it can hold a good pattern for me. But it is hard to pass up what the Federali's can do.
  20. Re: THE STRUT IS ON!!! Not sure on which state opens soonest, BUT, Kentucky does not tolerate calling birds before season. Only way we can get one to gobble is shocking by owl or crow etc. I don't know about your state, but I hope you were owl hooting them?
  21. Re: Vest is all packed............... Sometimes all you need is a raspy double reed mouth call and the ole trusty 870.....
  22. Well, I went to the range over the weekend to pattern my turkey gun. I jumped on the band wagon and purchased #4, #5, & #6 3 inch Remington Hevi Shot. I used an Undertaker and got mediocre results at 30 yards and under. Anything over 30, spread out too wide. Seems the Hevi Shot always shot high also. I then threw in my trusty Comp-n-Choke and used a 3inch Federal Mag Shok with the new Flight Control wad in #6. This did very well at 30 + yards. I was amazed on the difference of the two chokes and two shells. I am still going to do some extensive pattern testing with my leftover Hevi Shot through the H.S. UT. I just wish Comp-N-Choke could shoot Hevi Shot, that choke just does wonders on paper and turkey heads!!! Also may try #5 3 inch Federal Mag Shok. I know the Hevi Shot really puts a hurting on turkeys, but if I had to hunt tomorrow, I would use the CNC with Federals! Also, I have heard alot about the Rhino/Nitro combo. But, I can't find where to buy Rhino chokes???

  24. I am considering mounting a turkey this year, if I get one. I am considering the strutting gobbler on roost. Wondering what mounts people like the best? Also, which head type is better? The freeze dried, the pickled (formaldehyde), or artificial? I have heard about mites getting in the freeze dried heads within about 5 years or so and rotting them out.
  25. Re: Warning: 870 3inch barrel shoots 3.5inch shotshell I thought the 11-87 (made in 1987) was the "3 inch version" of the 1100. I am not certain, that is just what I heard. I have an 1100 made back in the 70's that is only 2 3/4.
