Iam always up for the late season.......... :D
-
I went with the .300 win mag........... :D

That is really the main reason iam looking for a single shot in kind of a small caliber,,,More of a challenge........I spend more days in the field with a bow than what I do with a rifle,,,,Dont get me wrong I love to rifle hunt,,,But nothing gets close to bowhunting......So if a bear was charging me,,I would much rather have that happen to me with a single shot rifle in hand instead of my bow;)As much as I love my bows,,Thats just not the situation I would like to have it with me..........Also I will be bear hunting from a treestand.........Now keep in mind this will also be a deer gun,,,I already have 2 bolt actions 1 lever action and an auto rifle in the safe....I would like a single shot just to make it more of a challenge....... :D

What caliber I want to start with:confused:.....I have always wanted a .243 or 25.06,,But iam afraid it will not be heavy enough for the occasional bear hunt.......Thought about getting one in the 30.06 or the 300mag.........I know I can always buy other barrels later on,,,Just cant make up my mind as which one I want first..........How effective is the .243win on black bear???...........243,,,25-06,,,30.06,,,300win mag.......Help please..............:D:D

I have one that I had done by a local gunsmith years ago,,I had the stock cut down and refinished,,,Had the barrel cut down also,,,Removed the old factory sights and had a set of Williams sights installed just for looks,,,I also installed a scope and bipod......Bought the gun for like $70 and now have about $600 in it.....The .303 does the job for deer,,I have killed several deer with it but like was mentioned earlier you dont have many factory loads to choose from and sometimes they are hard to find...........I pull it out of the safe at least once a season and hunt with it........You really need something more popular to hunt with like a 30.06,,,.308,,,.270,,,etc....Many more options ammo wise than the .303...........:D:D

I agree.......Not to sound mean but,,,Try to get into the places that the old, sick, fat and lazy just cant get to........Most public lands that I have hunted %80 of the hunters only go 200 yards to 1/2mile in,,Those areas are hunted to death and the deer are pushed farther in especially mid to late season.......If you go in farther than all the other hunters you stand a chance to have some great success.......... :)

Its a great rest,,I like it because its a containment style rest.....And they have great customer service also,,If you have any trouble with the timing or any fletching clearance issues send them an e-mail with your setup and they usually respond by the next day with the cure........... :)

I have shot Muzzy's heads for years and so far have never had any problems........

If I dont hear any gobble I usually just still hunt and blind call in places that I know birds frequent......You mentioned a 4 wheeler trail and an old logging road,,Those sound like great places for birds to travel,,,Around here the birds love to travel on old logging roads and 4 wheeler trails usually late morning from 9am to mid day,,By walking the roads you will most likely spook the birds off.......If there are any tracks,,scratchings or anykind of sign around those roads then I would setup about 10 yards off to the side and wait maybe set a decoy up in the middle of the road/trail,,,Try to setup in a straight patch of road or trail if you can,,That way you can see the bird way before it gets to you..............If you can find any dusting bowls birds usually come back to those from time to time,,,I have one dusting bowl in a foodplot that the birds have kept fresh for the last year,,Think of them like how you would a deer scrape.......Now these tips are for when you are "not" hearing any birds...... These tips are for when you are hearing birds.............Now when you call during the morning just before sun up trying to locate a bird,,,Try to find the highest place possible on the property you are hunting and call from there,,,Try to get to that place before daylight if possible,,You want that sound to travel and by getting up as high as you possibly can you get the sound out over the property much better,,,,,Once you hear a bird gobble then try to get as close as you can before it comes off the roost but dont get too close or you could get busted,,,Try to close ground about 40 yards at a time then call again just to keep a good idea of where he is,,But keep in mind if the bird is looking the opposite direction when he gobbles he will sound much farther away than what he really is,,,I like to keep back about 75 to 100 yards from where he is roosted,,,,,,,Like a few others have said on cloudy,,rainy,,windy days the birds just dont answer as good,,,Even if it rains the night before the hunt it sometimes will slow the gobbles down......If a gobbler already has a girlfriend or 2 he is usually not to anxious to answer let alone leave her to come to you,,,,But if you can call his big beautiful brown eyed hen in,,Most of the time he will follow,,If you can hear a hen just mock her,,,If she yelps 3 times,,You yelp 3 times,,,,If she cuts you cut......If she clucks you cluck,,,This will agravate the hen and she will come looking for you and hopefully her boyfriend comes with her............I have also found out that it is alot easier to call a gobbler uphill or on level ground they are much harder to call down steep hills..........If a gobbler comes in and then hangs up,,,Try calling just a little softer to make him think that you are moving farther away..........From my experience birds dont gobble as good during the evening when they go on the roost as they do during the mornings,,,I have went out just before dark during the evenings trying to roost a bird and not hear anything,,,Then go to that same exact place the next morning and hear 4 or 5 gobblers,,,I like to leave the area alone the evening before the hunt for 2 reasons the first would be that I dont disturb any birds in the area the second reason I go into the hunt the next morning with a better attitude by just not knowing what to expect....... These tips work pretty good for me in my neck of the woods but may not work as good in yours,,,It just depends on the type of terrain that you are hunting in.......I hope that you get get something from these,,,,It is hard to give advice without knowing the property you are hunting.........All areas are different.....

I know the feeling,,,Season has only been open a little over a week here and the birds have just about shut completely up since last Wednesday......They was gobbling good for the first few days and all at once they just stopped.......I have tried a few different locations and still nothing........I hope they pick back up in the next few days..........I have been out 6 times and have seen 7 birds only 1 of them was a gobbler.......

Re: Well that\'s done.... Most of the time the backorders are right on time sometimes a little early,,,,I ordered a few things the middle of last month and had a sling on backorder,,They estimated that it would be in on April 10th,,,It came in this past Monday the 2nd.......Usually they send you an e mail once the backordered item has been shipped,,,,Most of the time the item is on its way to you by the time you get the e mail:).......

Re: Uggg....getting a front bead off a remington 870 Yep I had the same trouble awhile back as you can see from the link that Tominator posted,,,,Just make sure to pull straight up so you dont round out the hole it takes some muscle to get it out,,,I got mine out with a good pair of vise grips:) then I just threaded the hole with a 6-48 tap and was back in business... -
Anyone tried one of Nikon's scopes that has the BDC reticle??If so how accurate are they at the longer ranges 200+??...Iam thinking about buying one for my .270......

Re: Suggestions Please!! Choke, load help Benelli Nova I use the Tru Glo .665 choke with an 870.......I tried several different brands of 3 1/2in loads in #4 #5 and #6 shot from 2oz to 2 1/4oz shot and believe it or not I got my best results with the cheap Remington Nitro Turkey loads 2oz of #5 shot,,,2nd was the Winchester Supreme Turkey loads 2oz #4 shot......The Federal loads that I tried put most of my pattern about 3inches to the left.........But all guns are different one load that works well in one gun may not work all that great in another gun....
