  1. Re: \" Brush guns \" The real answer is that no gun can shoot reliably through brush. Find a hole and thread the needle with a fast handeling accurate rifle with either irons or a wide angle scope for greater field of view and target aquisition. The cartrige I leave up to you... Last...Pray... Shot my first deer, in the brush in Northern VA at about 60 yards doing just that...waiting for him to step in that one clear opening. I happened to be using a Ruger M77 in 6mm Remington with a 3x wide view scope i borrowed from my Dad...
  2. Re: Reload your own I'm shooting a 30-06 so FMJ military surplus is available...but that doesn't work for anything but paper punching...
  3. Re: Reload your own Question to the Moderators...Im new here...obviously...what are the regs for posting actual load "recipies" Don't want to push this topic to far if its gonna fall flat cause all the numbers have to be left out...
  4. Just noticed that several people in this forum have mentioned rolling their own ammo. Why not swap techniques and what works for what... Right now my budget is tight but I gotta shoot so Im interested in the most economical loads anyone has been able to find.
  5. Re: The Truth All too true! I like number 5 also...but one amendment to it...Bows and swords...remember the Dukes of Hazzard... If they take away your gun use a dynamite arrow...
  6. Re: 3/4\" groups!!! To Quote Craig Bodington..."3 shot groups are just as valid as 5 shot groups, you just have to shoot more of them" Either way that is awesome shooting for 200 yards. Im happy to average 3/4 inch at 100 yards from my 30-06...
  7. Re: 270 vs 30.06 Just gotta put my 2 cents in... Go with the 30-06 and buy reloading equipment. Load it with standard powder (Reloader 15) and a 150 gr or so bonded core bullet( I like Speer's Hot-Cor) for deer Load it hot with a magnum powder(Reloader 19 or 22) and a 180 gr Sirrocco it makes a effective Elk gun out to 300 yards(possibly more on paper but how well can you realy shoot...)... If your budget is like mine you are looking for one gun that could fit all your hunting needs. The 30-06 does everything in the big game category below dangerous game, and will do small game for pest control..(just don't shoot any small game you want for the hide or meat...there whon't be enough left...)
  8. Re: Parents vs Spouses rights? [ QUOTE ] After reading this story and watching it on the news i made an appointment with my attorney and am putting in writing No artificial means of anysort if i can no longer take care of myself. [/ QUOTE ] Just a note of Caution. I have worked in a hospital setting as a technician and you have to be realy careful about how you write something like that. There is a DNR wording (Do Not Resuscitate) and No Life Support wording. IF YOU HAVE A DNR ORDER ON YOUR CHART AND CHOKE IN THE HOSPITAL CAFETERIA AND STOP BREATHING BEFORE THEY REVIVE YOU THEY MUST STOP ALL ATTEMPT TO REVIVE YOU! SAME FOR A HEART ATTACK OR ANY OTHER "FIXABLE" ACCURANCE IN WHICH YOU STOP BREATHING OR YOUR HEART STOPS...EVEN IF CPR OR OTHER INTERVENTION WOULD SAVE YOU. Make sure you specify you want reasonable measures followed but not prolonged life support. Don't die unnecessarily due to a missworded legal form.
  9. Re: Would you ever sell.... [ QUOTE ] Wasn't there a 16 year old kid in Iowa who shot a monster then some one stole the mount right out of his house? [/ QUOTE ] Big article in Outdoor Life about that just recently. Pretty sad state of affairs when something you shot and mounted gets stolen..and then what...how do you pawn a rack that already has pics all over the place since it is a record...
  10. Re: ANONYMOUS USERS.....and New Members Heck why not ... I just joined tonight so... Hi everyone...!
  11. Re: HAS ANYONE EVER SHOT A COYOTE WITH A .22LR??? I would have to agree with just about everyone here...if you are already out with your 22LR and see a yote...ok...if you are good enough...only one I've ever seen shot with a 22 was by my older brother while hunting rabit, he shot it right between the eyes and it never moved again...but if you are specificaly hunting coyotes use a little more gun.
  12. Re: 30-06 30-06 hapens to be my pet gun...I use it for almost everything. I also reload my own ammo so i can play a little with my loads for specific purpose though. If you reload try the Hornady V-Max 110 gr. It is sweet on varmints and gives you a little more barel life since you can drop the powder charge a bit and cool it down a little. Happy hunting!
  13. Re: i have a question My rifle (savage bolt) frequently fails to feed Stingers(my Dads favorite 22LR) but has no problems with the Velocitors(my favorite). they are extreemly similar in preformance but in theory the Velocitors should cary more downrange effectiveness due to their heavier bullet weight.
  14. Re: Firearm Selection Don't have one yet but I'm looking forward to the new .204 Remington...If you are gonna buy a new gun anyway it may be the way to go.
  15. Re: .308 for coyotes and varmint? I haven't hunted coyote wit a .308 but i use a 30-06 for varmint hunting using the Hornady V-Max 110 grain bullet with a 5% below max load of Aliant 2400 powder. In my Ruger M77 UL it is acurate out to 300 yards (posibly more but that's as far as I've tested) and fragments fast. It would stop a coyote dead in its tracks. I like it for that reason...whatever you hit whon't don't run much , but then again I also never save furs, just shooting pests here.
