Re: Kids and hunting I haven't had that specific problem ...yet. However, I am curious wether your son is just opposed to hunting, fishing and Braves games or if he is turning into a dedicated couch potato like his grandfather. If it is just select things he opposes to it may be best to make a deal with him that he go with you at least once and then you do something else with him. If he realy doesn't like hunting and fishing then pushing too hard will just drive him further from our sport. On the other hand if he is trying for couch potato, you may need to take a more directive and parental aproach. Take him on trips where it doesn't matter if he throws a fit...shed hunting for example. Insist that he goes(after all who is in charge here!) If he still resists after doing those types of outings then you may need to look for other activities he will get interested in. As for his attention problems, don't be too quick to label him ADHD. I feel that that is a way overused and under understood label for active kids. I personaly don't like diagnosing a kid ADHD prior to age 4 at least...(text books say 6) and then only in extreem cases. He more likely just has a lot of unfocused energy. Try and harness it! As for your daughter, take her shed hunting and animal watching...she will learn through experience that if she wants that animal to stick arround so she can watch it she will have to be quiet and still. If you stand hunt the do some spring and summer scouting with her and set up a stand to sit in on a calm morning and watch animals. If you spot and stalk or still hunt then do nature walks and make a game with her to see how close she can get to the animals you see on the walk before they run away. This must be done with caution of courses as these are wild animals. Again shed hunting or nature walks are great ways to get kids interested in the outdoors and used to the animals you hope they will one day hunt with you. Just to reiterate...encuragement is always more effective in the long term, than pushing and prodding...however some times it takes a little of both to get started.

Re: more IDIOT poachers BUSTED!!!! Way cool reporting! gotta agree with you there Norm. A little story about some other poachers that got busted... About 20 years ago my father was hunting Mulies on an indian reservation in NM. On his way in he met two guys that were packing up their Jeep. They had antlers and capes for two realy nice bucks. My dad thought nothing of it since most hunters in the area had the meat processed professionaly then shipped home but took the cape and antlers with them. My dad stopped to chat with the guys and they told him where they had gotten the bucks and said there were more still out there. My dad decided to hunt the same area that day and started hiking. About a mile out he saw what he thought was 2 gut piles, as he got closer, however, he realized it was two whole deer...minus capes and antlers. He hiked back into town and let the indian authorities know. They picked up the two poachers and matched the bodies with the capes. The native court confiscated the jeep, both rifles, and all hunting gear the men had with them. They also fined them $1000 each, and revoked their rights to hunt there ever again. Once the tribe was done prosecuting them, they were turned over to the state and federal authorities. The US government does not recognize tribal court rulings due to some wrinkle of keeping the two seperate, thus the state and federal authorities proceded to prosecute the case as if no punishments had yet been given... Now that would be a deterent to poaching...

Re: Anyone hunt small game with a handgun? Very sweet gun...simply for aesthetics I like the blued version better. I used to practice constantly with a MKI. I fired a 10 shot group at 50 yards, standing with shooting sticks for a rest (iron sights) and kept the group a shade under 2 inches. I think I still have the target somewhere...may have to look for it...

Don't get me wrong the short posts are valuable feedback and show that you are enjoying the forum... but don't put so much stock in your rack that you reply just to get more points...

"The Rookie Reloader" Rookie is a misnomer here...inept and dangerous may be better... and the one reloading the ammo has problems too. Two lessons to be learned here... First Ammo rules 1 Always check your ammo (even factory loads) before a hunt. 2 Double and triple check your reloads. 3 Never use someone else's reloads unless you know and trust their reloading ability! (And they were worked up specificaly for your gun!) Second Gun rules 1 Clear a jam with the muzzel, and butt, in a safe position. 2 Never cycle a new round into a jamed chamber.

Re: 2005 Darwin Award Nominee [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. [/ QUOTE ] Where did the other 24 shots go? I wouldn't have wanted to be within 4 blocks of that place when that happend. [/ QUOTE ] Total agreement to the people that say they wouldn't want to be there...just think...at that range even the rounds that hit him would keep going....they found 23 bullet "wounds" not 23 bullets....

Re: Mothers! Yup still gotta clean before my mom comes too...a little hard to do at the moment since I am in the middle of remodeling my kitchen... Rich, I'm Welsh/American(My mom's parents imigrated from Wales and my father's family came over two generations before them, don't hold that against me) and I agree with you totaly. He shoulda been taking care of things right...If he found her after Di died...well maybe but definitly not the way it is now...just disrespectful to tradition and crown, not to mention the concept of family values.

Re: My house got broke into. Sounds a little squirrely to me... We had a lot of problems with that in Maryland too. Had to keep the birdseed in locked matal bins to keep the squirrels out. In California we had lots of problems with ground squirrels and had to shoot a ton of them...just used an old Ben Franklin .22 Pellet gun since we were in a suburb of Sacramento and we couldn't use any firearms. It's the fastest, non CO2, air gun Ive ever used...took out those squirrels as far as 40 yards ...never tried any farther .

Re: PC Virus, why?? [ QUOTE ] As for why people write the virus programs, some nerds are just bored and occupy thier time creating virus' and then sit back and get some sort of self satisfaction in seeing the havoc they wreak. These people don't have the social skills to get attention in a positive way so they feel like they have to get it from somewhere else. They also have the mindset that society is being unfair to them so they try to take their anger from social ineptitude out on as many people as possible via a computer virus. Plus there is little way for the virus to be traced back to them if they format the program correctly so it's a "free" way for them to annoy as many people as possible. IMO they are the scum of the computer world and should be punnished greatly for what they do. [/ QUOTE ] Yup thats one reason. Here is another...even worse one... One guy I knew in college (real jerk) was a computer science major. Whenever he wanted a little cash he wrote a fancy virus, released it anonomously onto the net and then called up the antivirus companies a few days later and told them he "cracked the hacker's code" and could sell them the anti code to make removing the virus easier. They usualy shelled out between 1 and 3 grand PER VIRUS. Depending on how hard the virus was to remove without the anti code. He never got in trouble because no one could prove he released the virus in the first place.
