  1. Boy Todd, I thought it was supposed to be a cold day in He-- before I would hear you complain about having too much rain. Good work!
  2. Another vote for the Drury's here! Nothing like learning their management plans for their properties and seeing deer management in action! Love seeing the kids being involved too!
  3. Thanks to that participated...Can't let that liberal media get away with a fast one!

  5. This is a poll about gun control...please visit the link and vote appropriately. http://abcnews.go.com/US/BeSeenBeHeard/popup?id=3046132
  6. Re: Anyone grow turnips? or know how? turnips are a nice supplement to areas that lack wintering forage...they are not high on the list of desirable eats....plant some winter wheat with an overseeding of clover for some great draw and Dogdoc has an incredible mix of cereal grains and AWP's that simply draw hungry deer to your plot. Plant the turnips in Aug or Sep and let them winter your deer and create a spot for the deer to return to year round.
  7. Re: Mowing clover Watch your weather...don't mow if it is going to be hot and nasty...mow it down to about 6-8"'s and let them animals tear into the new growth. Good luck.
  8. Re: Hey Martin--Nice surprise... Looks like you might have to find another place to plot doc.

    Ready to cuss

Re: Ready to cuss I like the trail cam idea...can you put one up in a tree and point it down towards the area... I would also document the carcasses and submit a report to the wardens boss...seems like a paper trail would get some attention.
  10. Re: Whisker Biscuit Shooters Had to cut my wb mounting bracket for my hoyt...wanted to move the cradle as far forward as possible. Hope it works out for you...I think you are ok in the weight range...not a pro though.
  11. Re: 4H and the school-food plot program Very nice, could you put up the pics for a before, during, and after collage. Great program, we need to work on gettng kids into the woods and away from the TV.
  12. Re: Sweet Potatoes for Deer I think I would have to weigh the costs of sweet taters to the cost of winter wheat and other common forages.
  13. Re: Putting out minerals???? Hey Phil...what is your mix? I think you had aglime in your mix?
  14. Re: Bowhunters you need to read this Yep, not real brite. Shouldn't be giving peta a leg to stand on. Maybe it is peta who is behind this...don't know. But opposers will always take this and run with it. They are spouting off about hunting does not reducing the herd due to does being responsive from losses and producing more fawns in the next year.... Give me a break! I hope the t bow hunters will get this removed shortly.
  15. Re: Caught on Camera [ QUOTE ] That's pretty funny-if anything he probably helped you out. I just hope when I'm 80- I'm crotchety enough to pee on a corn pile lol. [/ QUOTE ] Yep...I hope I can remember this when I am 80 and maybe have my wife pee on the ground for ya... It is too bad that it happened...a few pics in the local grocery store should solve this problem...real quick.
  16. Re: QDM Doe and coyote.... Congrats...did the doe have any white on her throat or belly...kind a looks like might have had a melanistic look to her. Guess it's time to clean that muzzleloader, again.
  17. Re: food plot in missouri? Lablab worked real well for us in that rocky red soil....get your lime truck in there asap! You could try some rr soybeans to prep for a fall plot.
  18. Read a bit on this and thought an addition to our web page was in order... http://www.qdmagateway.org/Managementtip...88/Default.aspx Let me know what you think...
  19. Re: Are you the same???? Looks like I need to own some land to get the full enjpyment...my lease price is doubling...soooo...
  20. Re: Theres no reason not to manage!!!!!!! That is what I feel too, maybe I just read you wrong...but you can't keep everyone happy...the insurance companies have a tight grip on how our wildlife agencies manage the population of whitetails. They have the money and liars to put a hurting on those agencies so they have to show in some sort of manner that they need to harvest more does...so...shifting the focus onto the doe herd from the bucks is just one of the ways that our agencies have tried to shift the harvest trend. I believe earn a buck is good, and I think a different apr(3point on one side with a 15" inside spread) would be another way to keep from hi-grading the bucks and would let you cull out the older bucks that remain a six point. I don't need big brother telling ME what to shoot just doesn't work for a whole state...it is just like a speed limit...everyone complains when the new limit is installed, some follow, some don't adhere...some pay big fines... There is just no easy way to manage a state's herd and keep everyone happy. Hope your season went well.
  21. Re: Theres no reason not to manage!!!!!!! I would go along with the spread along with a point restriction...but then aren't we trophy managing? Hard to argue about that one...I wish they would give you a get out of jail free card for those bucks that are 3.5 but don't meet the minimum point restriction. It should be that way...if they are really trying to get the bucks into an older age category. Sorry Gator...just have heard way too many arguments like yours and I just get a bit wound up when people worry about others shooting their deer...just doesn't add up down the road. We had several 1.5 10 pointers on the lease this year, and one of our younger guys took one...which is perfectly fine...he needs to get his taste of deer hunting.
  22. Re: Theres no reason not to manage!!!!!!! You can't tell me ar's are good for the herd...high grading is the first problem, then the mature six pointer is another...I don't like em for the guy that does manage his property for age...antler's don't mean age... But I think gator needs to look at his signature and read it thoroughly... AR's are a speed limit for those who don't understand management. Traditional management is gone, and should have been gone for a long time. Doe management...either population elimination or age discretion should be implemented everywhere. I don't like the idea of mountain lions and black bears being introduced to our ever over populating society. Many in Missouri are getting trail cam pics of bears and lions and the MDC is talking this down...why...insurance companies are paying thru the nose for deer vehicle collisions and they want it stopped...sooooo You institute ar's to have the brown and down hunter's focus on the does, you have the weekend hunter's take a doe, because they don't want tag soup. You have the ar's to stop and make everyone a bit more safe, how?? Now you have to actually look and make that decision. Is it good for everyone...absolutely not! You have to start somewhere when the litigators are involved. Liberal doe tags did not do it here. Deer numbers continue to rise and it won't be long before the whole state is under the ar 4 point rule... I feel sorry for the people that feel they are being wronged by their wildlife agencies..but they are under the gun to improve an ever increasing problem. It is not about the antlers folks...it is about the green backs! (not ducks, either)
  23. Re: ice/snow storm I was going to the lease when the storm rolled in...bad stuff man... We still have a few without power. Pretty bad when you lose half of a city's, county's, and rural area's power. Thank god for all you out of state electrical workers that came in to help. God Bless you! The deer did move quite alot about two days after the storm...guess they got hungry. I even had two does in my back yard looking for a travel corridor... It is all about the food fellas...see a need, fill a need..they will search for any food sources after a day or two...I think the does were attracted to the bird feeders.
  24. Re: 2006 Rifle buck Just how big of a guy are you? For perspective reasons. Great buck too!
  25. Re: Team 18 I missed a doe with the smokepole...I am not alot of help this year...sorry! I still have till Jan 15th...
