  1. Re: Stealth Buck Bombers Good luck struttinhoyt, points is points, I hope TSBH comes thru also...Merry Christmas everyone!
  2. Re: starting from scratch You will need to do some research on the types of clover that flourish in your area...I can't help much, just plant in Missouri!
  3. Re: Stealth Buck Bombers Thanks Sasksheds...what a deer!
  4. Re: native honeysuckle? Just keep an eye on it and don't let it take over...if it will not become a preferred browse...take it out!
  5. Re: Need Quick cover in open field Here try this link...it has a bunch of good info. http://plants.usda.gov/cgi_bin/topics.cg...spedeza+bicolor It is supposed to grow real well in moderate soils, it can be used as another decent food source and won't be invasive.
  6. Re: Clover? Don't go putting out your clover with snow on the ground over a grassy field....you will not get real good results. If you must throw out your seed...wait till Feb or March... I have had good results with frost seeding at that time. Your clover, if thrown out now, will have terrible germination percentages success. Way too much time till germination can happen. If you can prepare your area before hand, prep the seed bed, then get the seeds into a good 1/8" depth, pray for rain...then you will be set...It takes considerable time and preparation for a perrenial plot and failing to plan will lead to less than desirable results. Good luck and let me know if you need more info for our area. Now, if you were looking to enhance a field for deer foraging...I would suggest a good mix of red clover, K. lespedeza, liming and fertilizing(per a soil test), to be thrown into a grassy field. You would see a considerable increase in wildlife activity if you were to improve your field with these plants and practices!
  7. Re: Taking Does Take them old, long faced does out...They know as much about our hunting habits, smells, times we hunt, how we sound and pass all that knowledge down to the youngins. Todd is very correct about buck displacement, the does are very good at discouraging inbreeding. I would like to see some of the studies that Texas is doing regarding the ability to affect changes in free ranging deer genetics. Don't think you can do a whole lot of good taking out spikes.....give them time and they will be good shooters...at least the majority of them!
  8. Re: Need Quick cover in open field Egyptian wheat, bicolor lespedeza, and lots of other varieties of bushes recommended for your area.
  9. Re: Stealth Buck Bombers Nice bucks Tonya...how many do you get in Texas?
  10. Re: stealth buck bombers Do you think we should bother bwhntr1? He registered in April of '02...guess he checks in if he registered for this contest? I sent him/her an email to remind them of the contest....hope it helps!
  11. Re: stealth buck bombers Wow..Tonya is my hero...I have taken a 7 and 10 in my career...She does this in two days and still checks in with us....I am in your charge, Tonya...Well Done!!!

  14. Re: Rompola buck what do you think Ummmm, I can't remember the guys name that downed the largest ever buck with the muzzleloader...There name started with an L. NAW asked them if they would do it the same way again...they answered probably not...not worth the publicity raid...
  15. Re: baiting/ feeding deer Be very careful on what you put out...deer have a four stomach digestive system and an abrubt change to their diet can kill them...If you respect the animal and feel that supplemental feeding is necessary...contact your dnr or whatever local authority is available and see what will be best to keep your deer thriving. It is all about the bacteria that the deer have developed. www.qdma.com
