What scope do you use on your slug gun?
ranchand99 replied to ranchand99's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: What scope do you use on your slug gun? I found a simmons 3-9x40 with Illuminated reticle.I talked to one guy that has that one and he liked it.Thanks for the help guys! -
Re: H&R users,Which Shell? you're right, but as much as they cost I want to weed a few out.I think I'm going to buy a box of those lightfields, partition golds, and a box of platinum tips. Thanks again guys!

Re: river bottom buck It is true about the plastic piece, also I hit the middle of the neck, and now the head wants to fall off, andthe legs wobbly, sounds like me when I see ole mossyhorns!!I shot mine with a RM titanium.Well that was within the first 10 shots, and I'm hitting where I'm supposed to now.I liked my blue ridge deer target better, atleast the head, and legs were more stable.I'm jealous too I think I paid $69 for mine.It is easy to pull the arrows out of them. It's ok,and I like smaller sized targets too, cause it makes a real deer look bigger, and easier to hit.But I'll find something else, probably the blueridge again.

Re: Sighting question I had a bear that is the same way.You say you had an old bow.Did you put a new style arrow rest on it?Your cut out may not be wide enough for proper clearance, when you are usuing the new style rests. You will probably have to use the shoot around style rest. They have them at Bass Pro for $3.I would get a spare or two.If you use the biscuit in order to have proper clearance you will have to stick it as close to the riser as possible, but then when you put your fletchings with the odd vane to the left for clearance, then the bottom vane will hit the bottom of the biscuit.I had great success with that plunger style rest, and a release. If you use a prong style rest on an old style bow,and put the odd colored vane down, then the fletching that is nearest the riser would hit it.

Re: Redhead Layered Target? That's what I was talking about arrow speed, when they are faster than 260 they start diggin' in too deep.Broadheads will surely make it worse. The 4x4 is an awesome looking block style target, and the exterior layer keeps the insides from coming out when you pull the arrow out.

Re: .25-06 recoil? Way less than a 270.I shot my friends Savage 25-06,recoil was so weak I didn't close my eyes, and actually saw the fire coming out the barrel, while I was looking through the scope. It didn't kick hardly at all. You'll be please.Oh,that was a wood stocked gun,I'm not sure how it would be in a synthetic.

whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults
ranchand99 replied to a topic in Rifles & Accessories
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults They are great little guns, and don't get as much credit as they deserve.Personally 243 is the lowest caliber I'd use.Smaller than that, and you'll have to start aiming at the head or neck, just to make sure. -
Re: .25 WSSM Yeah they aren't going to drop the 300wsm or 270wsm for a long time I'm sure.I got the sales paper too,and it was just a big sale, they'll be around Forever just like the 16ga. Just kiddin'

Re: whats the limit for whitetails in your county? 2 bucks-10 does All in one day if you could. Plus numerous free deer during check in hunts on WMA's that don't count towards your season limit.I love GA!

Re: This tick anyone else off? What does a 120" deer look like? Were you paying as much money as Bob Robb? Maybe the camera, all the money, and trying to get recognition as an outfitter had something to do with it .You know they don't let everyone hunt the best spots.

Re: Broadheads I used the 100gr snypers the past two years, and my friend used the 100gr spitfire xp last year.I have used the spitfire 125gr on a crossbow, and a 100gr spitfire with my bow 3 years ago.I would pick the snyper over the spitfire without blinking. The spitfires are ok,but sometimes only 2 of 3 blades open on quartering shots.Just my experiences.I used the shockwaves, but they aren't near as sharp as the spitfires.Spitfires are definately the best mechanical that NAP makes. Both fly really good, both fly just like field tips,I just like the way the snypers function.Snypers, and spitfires are both sharp.Hope I helped.

Re: Redhead Layered Target? I hope it works for you.I was going to buy one but the archery guy at BPS here told me it wasn't that good for bows shooting over 260.It does look good though doesn't it?

Re: Past 25 yards Target shooters use smaller peeps, but that doesn't help you at the last 10 min of light.Take the horns off your deer target..you aren't focusing .Seriously it's probably that you are shooting too much..take a break. If that doesn't work try shooting 40 yds, then go back to 35,and see if you improve. It could be that you aren't holding the bow level. Are you gripping the bow,or letting it settle in the thumb pocket with the pinky, ring, and middle finger pointing at the target with your index, and thumb touching like you are making an ok hand signal.Just trying to help you figure it out.?

Re: Broadheads If you go with Nap try the spitfire XP's.If you are looking for something else go with Rocky mountain Snypers.Snypers are my overall favorite expandable. The new snyper xp3's look awesome too! Here check this out. http://www.rockymtbroadheads.com/01-snyper.html

Re: Need hunter input Me Too!!Can I go in the field, and wave at you?..That would be worth $10 more in my book.

Re: new to black powder I would go with the powerbelts myself. If you want a sabot go with the T/C brand. You can get it a BPS.Here's the link.Hope I helped. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.T...arTarget=browse

Re: .25 WSSM It's a real good caliber.I know you can get bullet weights from 85gr up to 120gr.It's right between a .25-06,and a .270.It's actually 10-30 fps faster than a .270,but due to lighter bullet..energy is around 275 ft lbs less.(130gr .270 vs 115gr .25wssm)So it's flatter shooting, but the animal won't know the difference really.I think you'll really like it.I heard that they don't even kick that bad. That winchester CRF action is real smooth isn't it?

SERIOUS HELP ON FOOD PLOTS! PLEASE!!
ranchand99 replied to BowtechTurkeyHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: SERIOUS HELP ON FOOD PLOTS! PLEASE!! Maybe in your area trent, but we always put out seed, lime, and fertilizer on the same day.As long as you get enough rain you'll be fine.I don't think you'll have to worry about it.You should see gowth within 3-7 days depending on your area, and what you planted. If not it may have burnt up.I would wait 3 weeks to make completely sure before I turn it up,and re-plant.Then make sure you have,or will be getting rain before you plant again.Usually we wait until we have had 1" or more, then while it is still wet turn it..say that day or the next after the rain.If you get rain again within a week you'll be doing SUPER!Hope that helps. -
Re: Peep I anchor like you Tominator, and my sight is low,but the pin is still a good 2" higer than the arrow. The bottom of the sight is still an inch or a little more above the arrow. No clearance problems.Follow me here.If you anchor like we do the peep will be closer to your release. Therefore the sight is low.If you anchor under your jaw like alot of my friends do,the peep will be an extra 1 1/2"-2" higher, because the distance from your eye to your anchor point then would be greater, then your sight will be higher also.If your sight is way too low,you will probably need to change your anchor point.By anchoring under your jaw.If it isn't interfering with anything, and you are accurate...Keep it like it is.Some shorter bows have smaller cut out windows, and anchoring under your jaw,may put the sight too high, and shadow out light getting to your pins.Hope I helped.

Re: new at bowhuntin Is your bow already set up?If not that's a whole other ball game.I'll assume it is for now.You don't have to have the bow cranked all the way down to start with. You will condition yourself later.First start out with low expectations.Start with short distances to build your confidence level.Say 10-20yds.You have to keep a consistant anchor point.Pick a spot, and stick with it.Some like to anchor just under their jaw.I prefer to anchor at the corner of my mouth.Keep your hand that is on the bow open.Let the bow settle in your thumb pocket, and you'll be holding it like you are making an ok hand signal.Your bottom 3 fingers(pinky, ring, middle)Will be pointed toward the target. With both eyes open, find the spot you want to hit on your target, then slowly squeeze the trigger on your release.Keep focused at your aim point until the arrow hits. That is called follow through. Some people develop what I call muzzleloader syndrome.Where they snatch their head around the bow to watch the arrow.Like a muzzleloader shooter may duck under the smoke or try and look around it to see if he knocked the deer down,or which direction it is going.Once you build your confidence, then you can try longer shots.Hope this helped, and if you have any more specific questions please ask them.

Re: Peep JimT,I use superglue,or festset gel on my tubing.Just a drop does it!If you don't use the one with the plastic clips, and are just tying it on,you might need to figure out a different way to tie it.Tie it like you are doing a string loop.Hope that helps.

What scope do you use on your slug gun?
ranchand99 replied to ranchand99's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: What scope do you use on your slug gun? Do you think it could handle the recoil?Which one?I had a bsa with a 4 moa dot,and liked it,but it didn't hold zero very well.Even on a .22.Thanks in advance.
