Re: I blew it - Twice! When I first started I would go to my treestand and tie liitle pieces of ribbon at each distance in all four directions according to the pin sights on my bow. If the pin was set at 30 yds and the pin was orange that was the color ribbon I would tie at that range. This way when a deer came into range, I would see at which ribbon it was at and use use that color pin to aim with. Always worked for me.

Re: shells for these smart birds I shoot a Rem 11-87 and a 3in #5 Winchester turkey loads pattern best in my gun. Every gun is different and you have to invest in several boxes of different shells and see which works best in your gun and at different ranges. As soon as you know which patterns best just remember the brand and load and your done. Good luck

Re: poaching They do investigate but in the county that I live in there is only three dec officers. I'm wondering if the state troopers have any authority in these matters since their response time is so much quicker.

Re: punishment for poaching I share your opinion on educating hunters on the subject of poaching and its consequences especially our younger generation of hunters. They are our future in this hunting community. Ialso believe if a person has in possession several untagged deer he/she knows they have broken the law and should be punished. What then. Take their license away for a few years. Majority of poachers don't even care about purchasing a license. What kind of fine should be imposed. Jail time?

what do you think the proper punishment should be for poaching a deer. Do you know of any punishments that were past down in your state. Do tell.

Re: SAD BUT FUNNY STORY... How about this one. A friend of mine was hunting a standing corn field when a nice 8 ptr came through. As soon as he shot and dropped it the "deer" got up again and ran about 10 yds from where it dropped. He dropped it again. He went over to it and realized it was a nine ptr. Confused he went over to where he first shot and found a dead 8ptr. He thought he was still shooting the same deer in the standing corn. As he shot one the other got up thinking it was the same deer, it shot it again and wound up with two beautiful bucks.

Re: poaching Live in ny. I don't want to make it obvious that it was me that gets them busted. It would cause family problems. Any other suggestions.

Re: Your worst Poacher Story.... I hate poachers. There is nothing worst to our community of hunting. I know two guys who last year boasted to everyone that they shot 13 does. I hate hearing it. I know where they poach. What can be done without involving myself. I know them personally and if they knew it was me it was cause problems in my family. What to do.

Re: poaching I know the area where they hunt. They hunt behind a gated area. Once a deer is killed they take it to a barn on the property and butcher it up. Load the meat in the jeep and go. Hard to let this keep going on. I know the men personally and I want to do the right thing. Its not fair to other hunters. Wish I could stop these slobs.

Re: poaching Dec can only act if they see something wrong. They can't enter the home and look for dead deer. I've called and unless they catch them in the act, its hopeless. Looking for advice here.
