lol John! It has been pretty interesting, I must say. Glad to hear you guys are home, Steve, but wish Rilda was doing better. Are you going to be around in October? Dad and I are going antelope hunting the second weekend in October around Belle Fourche and we might just have to stop by and pay you guys a visit if it would be alright with you and Rilda. Besides...I'm pretty sure I left my sleeping bag there last year... Dakota

I've shot whitetail does about 130-140lbs live weight, but I shot a muley doe that went in between 150-175lbs live weight. Nothing like a big ol' swamp or riverbottom (muley) donkey to fill the freezer with some good meat, eh? Dakota

Bryan...I think you went for the KO here... It happens, even with a full choke, in fact I had that happen to me yesterday on a goose with my 10 gauge. Didn't hit the body, but the Black Cloud bbs severed a couple wing bones and we were led on a wild goose chase around a flooded cattle pasture before we put the big gander out of its misery. Cripples are going to happen no matter how good of a hunter you are and you gotta accept that at face value. It happens; doesn't mean we're bad hunters, but it still happens anyway. Dakota

Here's me! This was my first big game bow kill shot 9/'09 in Gillette, WY hunting with our very own Steve B. Dakota

Been seeing a lot of resident Giants (my absolute favorite, couldn't care less about lessers...though granted...I'll still shoot them in a heart beat if presented with an opportunity ) flying. Saw about 85 today and shot one (only had three come into the dekes). Story and pics coming soon. I really love those Giants! Dakota

Woo-hoo! That looks fun! I prefer hunting on the water myself and would love to get a boat some time. Dakota

Anyone interested in forming a realtree forum league? If so, I'll set it up. I'm already involved in two leagues, but would love to start another with some forum friends if there's any interest! Dakota

Easy there, Bryan. I've had all of the above happen to me too; it comes with the territory. But as long as we do our best to recover that animal then that's not being irresponsible, but my original thread involved guys that were too lazy to wade into a shallow farm pond to retrieve their downed birds in plain sight. THAT is irresponsible. Dakota

Because of my heart, I can't be in the military or join the police force but I still want to do something to help people. So I've been thinking about getting my CPR and EMT training to become an EMT on our local Volunteer Fire Department (in addition to finishing up my business degree and taxidermy program to run my own taxidermy studio). Anyone have any advice or experience with something like this? I think I've noticed from a signature or two that we have a few firefighters on here. What has been your experience with this stuff? Thanks! Dakota

9 years ago today, our country was attacked by Muslim extremists...and today...we have a Muslim in the Presidency...there's something wrong about that, America. May God hold our troops, and the families of those troops and of all those killed on 9/11, in the palm of His hand. Dakota

Last Saturday (opener for geese), my buddy and I went pass shooting around the area. There are about 300 resident Canadians between the Tea, Lennox and Sioux Falls area and a good portion of them were flying back and forth between a flooded bean field and a cattle pasture with three farm ponds. I had asked for permission on the place earlier that week and the lady said ever so politely that if it wasn't for her sons and grandsons that I could definitely hunt (so no...lol). Well, my buddy and I pass shoot in the area Saturday morning and see the guys drop several birds. We get one too but, when we drive by the area again, the guys are gone and two birds floating belly-up and unclaimed! Well, my buddy, a mutual friend and myself drive by again this morning and spot a cripple that's been hanging around for the entire week! So, we pull up and I politely ask for permission to finish off the bird. She says yes and we shoot the bird. So that's three birds that went unclaimed and two are spoiled. I just CAN'T STAND unresponsible hunters! Because of the dead birds no other geese want to land there and they have moved off. We are having the hardest time finding them considering the migration hasn't started. I'm just ticked. Dakota

Hope you did well this morning, Shaun! All we got was a cripple we finished off. Dakota

Have fun, ya' Johnny Reb! Dakota

For ducks I have a dozen Avery Hot Buy mallards, a half dozen Hot Buy green wing teal and a Mojo wind mallard. For geese I have four Big Foot floaters. My buddy has 3 dozen Green Head Gear standing geese, and they're fun to hunt over, but I prefer to hunt over dekes on water in pot-holes and cattail sloughs where small spreads are ideal. What do you all prefer? Dakota

Ben, you are cracking me up! Glad you are safe, Shaun! Dakota

Dangit! I'm with Will again?!?!?! Should be a fun year, folks. Bow season starts September 25th, but I'm going duck hunting that morning and wait and let the deer start congregating on my special spot. Muzzleloader season opens up December...11th (?), I think. Dakota

Anyone know if they make them? I was pricing a bunch of 12 ga. Carlson BC tubes at Scheels this morning and was wondering if they make any in 10 gauge. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Dakota

The 40KE is designed for lower poundage/kinectic energy shooters. Of all the Rage broadheads (and I'm a Rage fanatic), the 40KE would suit her best. Dakota

Glad I could help, Jeremy! Dakota

Dakota replied to pointing_dogs_rule's topic in Upland & Small Game
Couldn't tell you, Dog...don't hunt 'em myself so I have no clue. Could possibly call the state GF&P office in Pierre and they may be able to help you out. Good luck! Dakota -
Waterfowl: must have a plug that allows only three shells in the shotgun (1 in the chamber, 2 in the mag) Upland Game/Pheasants: don't need a plug Dakota
