Re: PA hunters...thoughts.... The PGC passed this motion just to make us forget that there are NO DEER!

Re: Pennsylvania Deer Population [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Deer hunting in PA has changed a lot in the past few years but it's still a terrific experience! [/ QUOTE ] Do you think getting a kid out for the season and NOT SEEING any deer will keep his interests??? NO! My father was always a DEER MAGNET! This is the first time in all my hunting life (32 years BTW) he has not seen a single deer in the two weeks of the rifle season! In the 12 total days of rifle season, he was out I believe 9 or 10 days, and seen NOTHING! How the HECK do you think that a kid who sees nothing will want to keep hunting? The game has to be there for there interest! No game, no interest! Simple as that! [/ QUOTE ] With total respect to you and your father as hunters and outdoorsmen....yes it's getting tougher to find decent numbers of deer. Getting kids interested in hunting has always been a top priority with me as a Hunters Ed. Instructor. Intersestingly enough, my dad started us out hunting squirrels & bunnies back when there were more deer because he knew we'd get more involvement. He started us fishing for Bluegills instead of Walleyes for the same reason. When I talk to hunters I bump into out in the woods it's amazing to listen to their observations. Kids will excitedly tell you about the 5 squirrels, 2 grouse, and grey fox they saw, while many older hunters will share that they didn't see a *!#&! thing. I believe getting kids interested depends much more on the additudes they see expressed through their mentors. I realize I just upset some of you hunters that see things based on different viewpoints but I'll stand by my view. Sorry to step on toes...I hope you find what you're seeking in the deer hunting realm of PA. BTW- I hunt 2G up in the mountians that lays claim to the lowest deer population in the state and have pics of awesome hunts up there the last 6 years. [/ QUOTE ] You are not stepping on anyones toes big guy you are just terribly misinformed. The PGC has bought into the Gary Alt theme and is messing up our hunting in a very terrible and trumatic way. It will not take 5 or 10 years, but if they don't do something different right now you will see the effects next year and it will only get worse. We have areas of PA that are loaded with deer and a lot of areas with very little deer, but the PGC insists on giving those with and without the same number of doe permits each and every year. They don't have a clue. Andy

Re: Any luck in PA? Nothing going on in Northumberland County or at least where my Dad and I were hunting. Saw nothing at all on Monday or Tuesday. Have fun. Andy

Re: First day PA bucks These are great deer shots and congratulations to those who were able to connect. The comments on the tags will go without a comment. Good hunting. Andy

Re: pa gun opener Good luck to my fellow PA hunters and be safe. Andy

Re: Pins or Pendulum? Pendulum and it works great. Like hunt4bucks says most shots are within 30 yards and my pendulum is good as set out to 30 yards so why do I need 2, 3, or 4 pins when that is the case. However, I hunt from a tree stand almost exclusively so the uphill problem has not presented itself to me yet. I really like my pendulum and have no plans to change it for now. Have fun!

Re: Left handed hunters I shoot left handed both gun and bow and have found the way I shoot at a deer is to concentrate on the cross hairs or sights and forget everything else. That way when the sights or crosshairs are where I want them I pull the trigger and then start to shake, breath heavy, sweat etc. This seems to work with me when I hunt and shoot. Best to you and have fun. Andy

Re: Pennsylvania Deer Hunting [ QUOTE ] I have seen deer basically every hunt I've been on this year except maybe 3 or 4 times. Keep in mind this is hunting everyday since the opener. Granted the numbers of does I see are way down, usually only see 2 to 4 in a group now, but see them regularly. I have only seen 3 bucks this year while in stand. One was a spike, one was a 6 and the other was that nice 8 i saw monday night while my bow was sitting at home, lol. The time I have not seen deer is when I hunted my old hunting areas. The deer are just not in there anymore. I have been very lucky to gain permission to hunt a large portion of acres on a farm that is basically untouched by any other hunters. If it wasnt for this farm, or the 30 or so acres behind my sisters place I see deer numbers way down. It goes back to the fact that the entire state cannot be regulated under the same rules. Every area is different and needs its own consideration. The public ground around me in 5A is hurting for deer numbers. I feel for those who are forced to hunt here. Deer hunting is good for me this year and last but only because I got permission to hunt untouched private ground. [/ QUOTE ] Amen AMEN. I am that guy, the one who is hunting on game lands or open land. Oh well, still having fun, but would love to see "A" deer even it was 100 yards away. Keep smiling.

Re: Thanks Gary Alt.....Part II While we are throwing out thank you's to Gary Alt I would like to thank him as well for the wonderful deer management program that he sold to the Game Commissioners and how it has affected the hunters in Pennsylvania. Been out and saw nothing. Thanks Gary. Andy

Well guys and gals we have been almost all of the way through archery season, had a muzzleloader season, gun season for seniors. What is everybody seeing out there. I can tell you that I have not seen one deer in the woods yet and I have hunted every Saturday except one since September 30th and a few other days on vacation. However, I will say that I am most interested in getting in the woods with my 84 year old father and we have not paid a lot of attention to scent or anything like that. Let me know what you have been seeing. Andy

Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Saw about 20 squirrels and nothing more. Had a nice morning in the two man stand with my Dad, but would have like to have seen at least one deer even if it was 50 yards away. But nice being out in the woods again. Will try this week again. Andy

Re: NEED HELP FROM SAVAGE 99E OWNERS Mine is a 300 Savage and I absolutely love it. I can't imagine hunting deer or bear with anything but the 300 Savage. I will check my scope mounts tonight, but don't think I can help you since I have the Weaver scope and Weaver mounts. Andy

Re: Get on those white oaks in Pa! And deer really go for the white oak acorn. They prefer that over almost everything else. Good luck. Andy

Re: PA Achers? I'm ready and chafing at the bit. Next week can't get here fast enough. Dad and I have been to the farm several times the last couple of weeks and signs are there; even saw a rub last Sunday. Not real close to the tree stand but on the same property where the stand is set up. Good luck to everyone and will look forward to everyones reports. Andy

Re: Bow setup.. I also shoot the Savage Pendulum and really like it. I have had it on my bow for about 3 years and have had no trouble and really easy to set. Good luck and have fun. Andy

Re: cheep broadheads And you believe everything you read on the internet forums? That could be a big mistake. My advice is to buy where you know what you are getting whether that is Bass, Gander Mtn, Wal-Mart or where ever, but know what you are buying. Want advice go to someone you know and trust, that will give you good straight how it is advice. I would not ask the Wal-Mart employee for advice, nor would I ask the Gander Mtr, etc employee for advice, but I have friends and hunting companions who I trust to give me good advice. Have fun. Andy

Re: PA Achers? Dad and I got the new 2 man ladder tree stand up on Saturday. Saw lots of signs and lots of acorns around the tree stand. Really don't care if I get a shot or not, just looking forward to getting out with my Dad and enjoying the sights and sounds. Good luck to everyone and be sure. Andy
