  2. Re: PA ARCHERY COUNTDOWN 23 more days now. Looking forward to getting in the woods where they do not allow cell phones, faxs, phones and mean people on the other end of those phones. Can't wait. Good luck and know what you are shooting at. Andy
  3. Re: Tired of hearing PA Hunters complain! Here are the numbers for 2005-06 straight from the PGC website. Artlerless harvest was 233,890 compared to 284,910 for the 2004-05 season. The 2005-06 antlered harvest was 120,500 compared to 124,410 for the 2004-05 seasons. Or a total of 354,390 deer harvest in the 2005-06 seasons. This year 2006-07 season there is 859,000 doe tags available throughout the state. I just don't understand how they can allow that many doe tags and then question why they don't have the funds to pay for more wardens, more programs, etc. The hunters, who pay the bills, are not in the woods anymore because they can see birds from their office window or from their house. I don't need to sit in a tree stand for 12 hours to see those same birds that are on my deck looking for feed. I guess everyone is tired of hearing us PA hunters cry the blues and frankly I am tired of hearing it myself, but you are the only ones who will listen. And for that I am greatful. I will close now and not complain on this forum anymore, just share stories and read your stories. Have fun and enjoy the outdoors. Andy
  4. Re: Tired of hearing PA Hunters complain! You just verified what we have been saying.....the PGC is not getting it. Some areas of the state (Valley Forge) need more doe tags, while a lot of the state needs less, but they won't do that, they just keep pouring it own. The net result is, "No Deer".
  5. Re: Tired of hearing PA Hunters complain! Poaching is not even close to the problem we have in PA. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated but they are way off base. The problem is that the state DNR is running the PGC politically with Gary Alt and his cronies in their pockets. Alt convinced the Commissioners they need to cut back and they did. But they cut back so much that like you I have seen 1 or 2 deer in the last "couple" of years and have not had a shot. Not because of the antler restrictions but because I won't take a doe and cut the herd back even more. God bless those that need the food and are struggling to make ends meet but the poachers being the problem is way off base. Andy
  6. Re: Whisker Biscuit? OK then I guess based on these posts I made a good purchase with a christmas gift card. I got a WB and can't wait to start shooting. I have one question and that is what is the best way to tune this puppy for shooting? Thanks for the advice in advance.
  7. Re: PA Hunters Check In Had an interesting monrning on Saturday 5/13. Started with me picking up my Dad at 5:00 a.m. and heading to the mountain. Got to the end of the road at about 5:15 and headed for our spot, was ready to go by 5:30 and tried the crow call, but nothing, tried the crow call again and nothing. Dad went for a walk down the road and into a big hollow. Called a few times and nothing, then he came back about 6:00 a.m. and all heck broke loose across the field and three gobblers came out of the woods into the field. The started up the road away from us but then my Dad called on his hand made box call and turned them toward us. They came about 1/2 way, but were still about 100 yards away and got hung up. They spent about 20 minutes in one spot out in the field. All this time one of them is gobbling like crazy, then my Dad made another couple of soft calls and they started to come out way again. Then after almost 1 hour of coming and stopping and gobbling and coming and stopping it almost looked like they spotted the hen and jake decoy I had out and the pace got real fast as they came toward the decoys about 20 yards out they seperated a little and I let go. Final answer 18 lbs 10 1/2 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. 7:00 a.m. done for this spring, but what fun we had on all 3 Saturdays. Wishing everyone out there fun and luck. Andy
  8. Re: PA Hunters Check In My report on the second Saturday (5/6) has me still hunting and not getting. No gobbling at all, but turkeys all over the place. Only got one real young Jake to come into range and did not shot, decided to save him for next year or the year after. I don't know why we had no gobbling on Saturday, but other than the Jake trying to act like a grown up, a making a rukus that was about it. But me and Dad had fun trying like crazy to get the birds from all parts of the open field to come to us and our decoys, but with no luck. Have fun. Andy
  9. Re: PA Hunters Check In Worked about 15 birds in a big field. Had gobblers yelling their heads off all morning while they pranced in the field. My Dad had three long beards come right up to him and he shot the first one. 20 pounds and 8 1/2 inch beard with 3/4 inch spurs. The next two come up one at a time and started toward me but never made it to me so I have nothing to report for my efforts. But there are more days ahead and the first morning was exciting and fun. Good luck to all. Andy
  10. Re: PA SEASON JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!!! Have my own personal guide......my Dad is 84 and goes out a couple of times a week and checks out what is happening. He is hearing some birds and we are looking forward to getting on the mountain trying out best. Good luck to all you guys in Pennsylvania and make sure of your target. Andy
  11. Re: Diaphram Calls? While on the subject of diaphram calls.....how the heck do you stop the gag reflect when you put it in the roof of your mouth? I have tried and tried but can't seem to get over the top with these calls. Any advice would be appreciated. Andy
  12. Re: Antler restrictions in place in NY\'s 3H and 3K Had AR in Pennsylvania for a few years and it is the only thing the Game Commission is doing that I agree with right now. We are not seeing many deer but the bucks that hunters are taking are quality deer. We have a 3 points on one side rule and it is a little bothersome to see, count and then shot, but we are getting nice bucks. Andy

    Deer Count

Re: Deer Count PA had an aerial count with a heat sensor and only in the counties in the middle of the state. Not sure how accurate it was, but they contracted a company from out West to conduct the study and they had problems getting it done because of weather. Andy
  14. Re: ***Hey fellow archers, lets make a deal**** No problem on this end and thanks for caring about the site and the hunters that read it.
  15. Re: 13 year old needs a bow for kinda cheap!! My father is 84 years old and I am meeting him for breakfast tomorrow morning and I can't wait to tell him about you guys. With all the bad news in the world these days you guys are just AWESOME. Thanks for ending my week on a very high note. AWESOME!!!!! Andy
  16. Re: Still too many doe: Send some up here to PA. Most public land in PA could us a few or should I say a lot more deer. Maybe the doe you ship will help bring the herd back up to speed. Good luck and enjoy the hunting. Andy
  17. Re: Need help on arrow rest issues? I just bought a whisker bisquit (sp) and excited about getting it sighted in and shot with it. It was a bit pricey, but thanks to a Christmas gift, I was able to get it. The theory works real well with me. Will let you know later when the whether clears a little and I can shot and get it tuned.
